With a little help from my friends...
I really love to see this exceptional collaboration between users and developers here. That’s a wonderful initiative you have started @audiblevideo . This will take the great work of @midiSequencer to a higher visual level. Very nice!
love this forum and his friends... 😊👍
amen to that!!
Can’t wait to see all that’s coming for this cool app!
so glad I was able to get it.
happy for you to continue. green/gray works for me as do the controls.
The flow in Photon seems normal to me, but then ive used it for 6 months since this forum threw all the ideas at me, and know the internals so it is abit inside out (function over workflow).
happy to keep this public, no idea is bad
@audiblevideo
The never read up on any UI guidelines and to be honest this was clearly done off the seat of my pants.
Don’t worry, the design you made is really nice and the main page (done first) used nearly consistent layouts for its UI elements. The second page for the buffer is also nice, but uses a different layout style.
I first wondered about how to return to the main page. In your description you mentioned that the down triangle that brought us to the buffer view (which itself was not 100% obvious as UI button), i was missing the way back from the visuals you posted.
The grouping of features, enlarging the Record etc, the clear destintion between labels, buttons, popups etc look pleasing and i could imagine how to navigate the app.
I had some unsuccessful attempts to just record and play back stuff with the original layout & concept with the buffer and separate pads that have to be loaded from the buffer - which i only understood after reading the manual 😁
@_ki I think the assign button was not obvious - most ppl though it recorded directly to pads. My bad for making assumptions!
I had this record to auto play there in an early version but moved away from looping to a more file based approach - I'm going back to the looping again...
+1 for this UI
This is super cool! Haven’t gotten it yet - a bit broke at the moment, but this collab is making it even more of a must-have. Congrats alll.
Super duper fun. Only problem I have is the sync issue. I see a lot of talk about features, UI design, etc. but if there’s been acknowledgement that the timing issues are being worked on, I’ve overlooked it. I hope the timing issue is top priority over the rest. I don't care so much about the the eventual refinements but really can’t do much at all without working host sync.
While I've only had a brief check at Photon I'm surprised that the step-duration are somewhat limited?
(Where are the options for triplet and dotted notes?).
I might be missing something? (and I'm still trying to get used to the new WTF features of the new board).
But at least now I've got a good connection but I would have rather stayed in the warm place in Phil rather having to get back to a chilly Sweden (going from +34 sunshine to +4 rainy weather is not so funny).
@Samu At least you didn’t miss out on the Korg Gadget update! Everyone is still waiting!
True that. I've kept a 'logged out' eye on the forum without posting.
Some nice effects have popped up but I really need to start focusing on using what I already have. Gadget I will update that's for sure. But Blease Delay, Shimmer etc. etc. Sure they are nice not to mention the upcoming Blueveeks AUv3 sequencer etc. but I need to Focus! (AD Enso I will get though once released).
(I'm again at that point where I'm almost ready to delete everything else than Fully IAPs Gadget, Cubasis and BM3 and a few selected AUv3's just to be able to focus),
it is, bug fixes first, then looper, then ui
Yeah v1.0 has only 2's rather than 3's in the divisions. Easy to add more so will do that. Will add dotted & triplet (like I have in Quantum)
cool beans! you are tha' man!
Sorry for this question, not having read the entire thread, but what hosts has Photon been tested in? Thx.
Aum primarily as it supports multiple channels.
Cubasis & Audiobus & apeMatrix arethe others.
Not Garageband as it does not support auv3 midi only apps(shame on you Apple)
any particular host in mind?
Was curious about ApeMatrix. Would love to hear NS2 but I think midi fx aren’t supported yet. Thx.
So will this be the new look?
nice..
@RajahP Yes a new (optional) skin/layout for iPads, but the only one for iPhones.
I've got a working Looper (record -> get to end-> auto load to Pad -> Play Pad ->auto record etc), but think this might be better in its own panel(keeping realtime record as a quick session recorder with the 4 pad slots), so...... borrowing ideas from LoopyHD but for midi....
Looking to do
drag n drop
contain recording/display within the pad (like Loopy does for audio & gestures)
count-in
settings (tempo etc)
etc
Looking forward to the update.. Thank you..
Nice. Drop it in the beta and would be happy to give it a whirl.
More polished UI elements
the top menu swaps out the lower UI functions (real time record step time groove)
Some layout changes
Colors a warmer grey and green
Thoughts and things:
PS. elements in the pads and sequence section are still in progress
to answer your previous questions and comment:
screens looking good!
dont need deselect, but do need fold/unfold
yes files can unfold from rhs
the Looper sits better with its own panel, let me get this right in the current view first(there is a new top left button to show this new view)
are there any videos of photon in use?
Wow @ this thread and also wow @midiSequencer for being so gracious!
I love these UI fan designs, if you do end up adopting @audiblevideo design (if im honest, you probably should) then I hope he gets a cut of the mad profits!
But seriously, this is a very exciting app, even if its being workshopped like this and could benefit from some of these discussed changes.
