@audiblevideo for file drop it can go to one of the 8 pads at the bottom - no need for files panel to cover the whole screen, although what you have works too.
The open from wont work (airDrop has to go through standalone version not AU), so no need for that.
I agree its visually looking very good, more like a vst!!
Hi @SevenSystems - bug or feature request, I’m not sure.
When I have notes in the buffer and then I enable real time record, I see any new notes I record in the buffer along with the old notes. I assumed this was automatic overdub into the buffer unless it’s cleared first. However, if I assign the buffer to a pad, only the last recorded notes are there.
Likewise, if I record additional notes into the buffer, I see them along with the old notes, but if I even hide then show the buffer, the old notes disappear.
Ideally, any old notes in the buffer would be preserved, with the new notes just being added in, unless clear is pressed first.
Feature request: merge pads.
I think its a display problem : there is no overdub unless you step record. Its on my list to look at
yes i can now open up the assign to merge rather than overwrite.
the drag n drop will offer that too (like LoopyHD does for audio)
Added to my list
Ok, feature request with a side of display bug fix then. 😂
@midiSequencer - ditto on Beta testing if you require an iPad Pro 2018 user. Such a great app but I just can’t use it in the way I would like with the current sync/timing issue. Just PM me if you would like my TestFlight email address.
Cheers.
@audiblevideo love your designs, so clean, so intuitive ! I hope @midiSequencer adopts it :)
+1
Thats the plan!!
Not sure if this has been reported already in the thread, but more than 3 instances of photon crash all instances. I tried this in Audiobus and ApeMatrix with no luck.
Probably a memory issue. any one app only has 300ish MB to share among all AU instances
@nondes @yowza
yep, since you can copy buffers and the record buffer is 1 million midi events it is heavy on the memory side. Im looking to increase the number of pads to 8 so will look for a way to improve that storage.
Two instances is surely enough!!
@wim & @CracklePot think ive fixed it now - ive adjusted timings to account for always recieving beat changes a little late from the host(around 0.02 beats). this was causing the pad to end after the point it needs to start the next loop. Hence it waits almost a full bar say.
pm me your emails & you can try it out if you want?
Got it, thanks for clarifying. My ideal use case was 4 instances of Autony with 4 photons, so I could layer them and use the pads to set variable lengths etc. But I discovered that I can record different midi channels and route those through individual output pads, so 8 pads will be great for that purpose.
For the future looper feature, it would be great to auto-record from buffer to individual pads for specific lengths, so each can be mangled as soon as pad track length is reached.
Yes the looper will work just like Loopy, you decide the recod length, tap record, wait during count-in, record that length, autoplay in a loop.
All of this on a pad rather than an internal buffer so less minimal interaction needed.
re channels, with a new merge function you will be able to mixdown 4 pads to one, so if they each contain unique midi channels, the resulting mix could be on one output & you just set synths up to recieve only that midi channel(like in AUM).
This is possible because all buffers are full 16 midi channels(they are midi files after all)
Amazing, looking forward to it, thanks!
Hey @midiSequencer I haven't forgotten about the video I promised, just haven't gotten there yet. Gotta do a bit more learning and then carve out the time to film, but I'm shooting to have it be the next one I release.
Thanks again - I'll get there!
cool. Will send you the beta as its much improved.
I am so excited for the new beta and the new direction of Photon ( @midiSequencer ). Awesome!
I tried a multi track midi (Out of Realbook Pro) in it and it was a delight! Running so good. But the new Midi looper feature... uhhhh sooo good. Maybe even before enso hits the road ;)
Yes the Looper is going to be important. I got distracted with wanting to give the user options which interrupts the workflow, so simple record churning out variations to the pads with you only playing the input is going to be great.
who is Enso?
I know enso is different in asmuch it is an audio looper (from AudioDamage, as shown in their tweets and instagrams lately). But creating loops on the fly in a context of AUv3s is a missing piece in the iOS world. So its a highly appreciated direction Photon is taking! Thanks man!
@midiSequencer so in Xcode do the elements resize automatically — interpolate from smaller instances to larger ones? And can things change size and position?
Not sure what to do next -
larger layouts
piano roll
looper <— is there anything more than what’s showing on the step/pads section
LMK
Ill beta test too ;)
yes you can autosize and layout controls with constraints, but dont worry about that its the look n feel/layout thats useful to me.
I’ll chat with you soon when i’m ready to start, but need to get the bug fix & looper releases out first.
Pianoroll is much further down the line (hoping @blueveek will do an excellent job with his so we can interop). But its basically your rendition of the clip may be fine (just need zoom/scroll/select/full size - all of which can be done with gestures).
Happy to commission you for other app designs if you are looking for something to do?

Sounds like something fun and challenging :)
last batch till we talk again –– small adjustments
Nice.. you’re a natural.. 😇
When can we have this to play with?
@audiblevideo nice design you’ve come up with. I look forward to @midiSequencer implementing some form of this GUI. I do like the ability to select multiple pads and apply the same control changes to them.
He is waiting on me. I'm rearranging the current UI at the moment too to make it easier to put in the new UI (e.g making files section pullout rather than fixed on the screen). This gives me back a lot of space - so I can extend the pads to 6 or 8.
@audiblevideo gfx are just an image at this stage.
Hold up. I haven't been on this thread for a while. If I'm reading this correctly, this is now a collaborative effort for updates and redesign?
Aye, ya'll are muthafugging amazing on this forum.
It is something to behold. Wish I could see this sort of dynamic in my day job.
