    yes, notifications are erratic.

  • @bigcatrik That’s a known issue with the new editor. Only direct tags work for notifications, not tags in quotes. Michael has said that the old editor will come back soon when the developers have fixed bugs in it.

Oh, and I believe tags are case-sensitive now as well!

  • Good news: the original editor is back! For those having trouble with the toolbar callouts not going away: hit refresh.

    😊👍

  • Hallelujah (or however you spell that) for the old editor!

  • Back to quotes, you get my votes Michael  👍🏼

  • Yay! Good one @Michael! You are tha’ man.

  • Now (in my mind) the only niggle is that drafts aren’t automatically deleted when you post. Not a big deal. I’d rather have the next AB release. B)

Oh! Still? That was a Rich Editor bug. Where is it happening for you?

Humm ... maybe that was a false alarm. Maybe the draft I had left around had been started in the rich editor. I’ve done some posts since then and they aren’t stuck in draft. Cool. 👍

  • Oh good! Yeah, I think that was probably the rich editor still - it remembers for drafts (although I did some late-night database hackery to convert many drafts over to the new editor)

  • @Michael, you are too much. Now can you fix climate change, please.

    It's a myth!

    Done 💪 😉

  • You know, I actually heard a contrarian scientist (good qualifications) talking about it and he made me think. He talked about the thirty two computer models that all countries use and that only the Russians had it right. Had to do with a parametric something or other which he renamed “human fudging”. Anyway, all the non Russian models show temperature increases which are not really happening. Still, those polar ice caps.... where are they goin?

Still, I'm not sure if de-industrialization is the answer. After all, industrialization brought us a 10-fold increase in quality of life and life expectancy, with the tiny, potential caveat of a slight global temperature increase. So, my vote is for building higher dams and evacuating a few islands, instead of an order of magniture higher energy cost or returning to the middle ages. kthx. ;)

  • The old editor seems to be back in action again! Thanks @Michael :)

global warming is a big shit sandwich
if the sea water only gets 2 degree C warmer (I know it sounds like not much and trivial) some little organisms and plants at the front of the food chain will be unable to reproduce, you can imagine the consequences ...
a little known fact is that the water plants in our seas eat 70% of the co2 ...
little islands no-one ever heard of are starting to drown now
you can see things change in Germany already, we stoped having spring and autumn like we used to have when I was a little boy, its winter and 2 weeks later its summer already, its totally weird. and summers are fucking hot now, its becoming mediterran.
all kinds of weird southern fruits are starting to grow now here, (I dont know when the last time was you were here) feigen, Datteln, und so zeug, who would have thought
over the last 5 or 10 years or so there are all kinds of weird insects crawling & flying around I have never seen before, must be the warming too :o

we really need to stop burning things and use the hell out of sunlight, wind and water,
burning gases of eatable plants is another bad idea because to many ppl around the world copy what Germany is doing ... you get the picture

if we dont act now this planet will be pretty un cosey soon
boy am I glad I dont have kids that I need to explain to all the shit our and previous generations have done.

I basically agree that getting all our energy from the sun would be the optimal solution, and it's technically totally feasible. However, I can't see it happening for political reasons. The countries that are most suitable for this (desert countries in Northern Africa) are all unstable and unpredictable. Don't get fooled into thinking that putting solar panels and wind turbines everywhere in Germany is going to do. There's no technically or economically feasible way to store the huge amounts of energy required when there's no wind or sun. (one example: the only remotely economical way to store large amounts of energy currently are pumped storage plants (Pumpspeicherwerke). There's currently around 30 of them in Germany. However, 3000 (a 100-fold increase) would be required to provide enough storage for flattening out the volatile wind and sun energy over the year. Most people have no idea about the orders of magnitude involved). Not even to mention that there's no 3000 mountains in Germany (not even a fraction) that would be suitable.

And this is only talking about ELECTRICITY. If we also want to replace all OTHER energy (transportation, heating, etc.) with renewable stuff, then we're talking about 5 times as much again :)

So, it's not looking good... only two currently technically and economically feasible options are:

    • Large thermal solar power plants in the deserts (they include storage due to the way they're designed),
    • Nuclear power (not "cozy").

I'm sorry for wasting your time ;) I should rather be programming sequencers!

EDIT regarding the "global warming" thing: you shouldn't be too worried about the food chain. Climate has always changed dramatically over the past few billion years, and life on earth is still extant. Evolution is a very stupid system, but smart! ;)

  • @Max23 that's OK ;) in summary: the universe is full of danger and we're living on the edge anyway. Better just move on than worry too much. We'll all die eventually anyway. Let's have fun while we're still here :D

  • @SevenSystems @Max23 @Michael. Sorry! This just started with a little joke for our master manipulator.
But maybe it’s good redirection as no one is complaining about Vanilla ( I like strawberry, myself). However, I had been thinking about climate change cause of this video. It was, of course, a Fox tv interview, but the doc has some good creds, I think, and it is interesting.

@Michael, could you please slip in a few really annoying forum bugs to veer this discussion back on topic from the direction it’s heading? o:)

  • Haha! I know, what a tangent! And I missed it too.

Not if there's evidence you can do something about it. The problem is that it is a complex issue with a lot of conflict of interest.

'just chill out' is akin to saying 'I trust the guys at the steering wheel'. Some don't ;).

Thanks. That's one more click than before but two less than my stupidity.

On iPhone 5S, iOS 9.3, nothing happens when I tap my profile icon.
It does work on iPhone 5SE/iOS 12.1.
