Ha no worries… I posted asking whether v2 was an update or a new app, but a quick visit to the App Store answered my question, but posts can’t be deleted on the forum, hence the 3 dots instead :)

ah! I see. No worries. Yes it’s just an update, but a good one :)

  • I hope I am not asking something that has been brought up a zillion times already, but I really would like to see a ‘SOLO’ button next to MUTE.

  • Hey everybody,

sorry it’s been quite a while. We have been quite busy with the release of our last update. But thank you very much for your feedback and testing!
And yes @Slush , solo button is also on the list ✌️😊

But I have a personal topic. I really like this forum and we offer the support for free. But actually, if you like to support us, really the best thing for us, if you have questions or suggestions, is to tag us in a comment under a post from us on one of our social media platforms you find in the footer of our website www.octachron.de . Especially Facebook or Instagram.

I understand, if you might like this independent forum better. But maybe you can understand, that we really need to promote OCTACHRON to be able to carry on with it. And on these platforms, much more people, that maybe don’t know OCTACHRON yet, are able to see it. And your comments help us to be seen.

Maybe you can consider this for your next comment, this would be really cool.
Thank you so much, have fun and best greetings again from Munich ✌️🎶😊

Users of both Drambo and OCTACHRON, What's the major difference between these 2 apps in terms of drum patterns sequencing under AU hosts like AUM and Loopy Pro?

I read their guide once briefly and seems OCTACHRON has built-in support for some pupular drum Apps and Drambo allows unquantized live midi recording?

    Thanks!

Drambos biggest downside for drums is the lack of negative offset. If you want drums hitting early/between steps you have to use the previous step and use positive offset.

    Perfectly reasonable and understandable.

Or better yet post your Octachron music vids ;)

  • Does this app let you offset notes or do micro timing?

  • The GUI is broken on my iPhone SE 1st gen :'(

  • Hi, @reasOne.
(Note: Sorry for the 2 months late reply, you don’t need to reply to this post of mine.)

As you may already know, the below quote seems to mention the topic. (Sorry if I misunderstood the context of your question.)

is there way to shift an individual not left or right of the grid lines. i’d like to add some swing and this would be cool. it could look the same on the grid. , but maybe a cc setting that advances or delays when that note plays?

Yes, well, we would call that nudging. It’s not possible yet and unfortunately quite an effort. But we are already at it and it will be one of our next features ✌️😊

    Hi, @bichuelo.
-You may want to report your Octachron’s issue via the email address below. (Sorry if you already emailed it.)
-I don’t write Octachron's correct/perfect email address here because of a concern about spamming.

    https://octachron.de

-(As you all know better than I do) The "mail" in the above screenshot is not a "mailto:" scheme or something. The "mail" itself is a part of the correct email address of Octachron.

    *
In my case, I sent a report about Octachron issue (= One factory preset was missing.) to the above email address last month. And I received a ‘Thanks, we'll check it out!’-like/esque reply from Octachron developers. After that, I confirmed the issue was fixed in the next/latest version of Octachron.

Drambos biggest downside for drums is the lack of negative offset. If you want drums hitting early/between steps you have to use the previous step and use positive offset.

For me, the piano roll was one of the most substantial added features.
Since sequencer steps automatically appear in the piano roll too, fine tuning drum pattern timing has been so much faster and more intuitive in the piano roll for me because I can see all drum instruments at once, not only one. Much easier to get a good groove going without even listening.
And the zoom function lets me do that with more precision than with the "leftover" offset sliders.

Not yet, but it will hopefully be one of the next features.

Yes, we think it will be to small anyway but we will have a look at it.

I had the same issue and solved it with setting “display zoom” to normal in iPhone Display&Brightness settings. My IPhone SE is 2nd gen though

  • I like it! I hope they add a row randomizer; otherwise, it's well thought out, i experience for this https://thebeginningaftertheend.net/

Thx, and you already can randomize per row: Long press on a row, adjust density and randomness if you like, and press apply. You can also let the row mutate here.
    Does that help? 🙂

    Didn't work :'(
    Thanks for the tip, though

  • Hey @bichuelo, today we released version 2.0.2, this release addresses the issue you've reported! Could you check if it's working as expected now? It would be amazing if you could confirm here. :-) Thanks for reporting the bug in the first place! <3
    Cheers
    Markus :-)

I’m really excited for the iPhone version. I find it difficult to get any music made on my phone without having this sequencer because I’ve grown so accustomed to it on iPad

i use Octachron on literally ever session now. It's as crucial to me as AUM despite several alt drum sequencers.

  • @reinerspass et al
Hi, I've been having a lot of trouble trying to get Octachron to play a constant 8th note pattern in 12/8 time. What I'm after is 12 evenly spaced hi hat notes. I have the host (Loopy Pro) set to about 80 bpm in 4/4 time, as if I set it to 12/8 in the host, it just makes each bar take 2 1/2 times longer to play, rather than fit 12 beats into the space of 4. Or I could set Loopy to a very high tempo but that causes other issues. A song which has the feel I'm after is "birds in they sky, you know how I feel" by Nina Simone and others....

So, I have 4/4, and I want Octachron to supply me 12 notes spaced evenly over that length. If I could get 24 notes even spread even better, as I could add some faster accents. I have found no combination of step number, clock divider, swing and swing grid and note placement that will do this evenly. I have no trouble setting it up in Polybeat, but I'd prefer to use Octachron if possible.

I can get this to sound right:

    X _ x X _ x X _ x X _ x. where '_' is a rest, so skipping every second beat in the 4 groups of 3, but not:

    X x x X x x X x x X x x. that extra beat is always in the wrong place.

The closest I've got is with 16 steps, clock divide 8, swing around 70, swing grid 2 with notes placed on the grid as follows
    X _ X _ _ X _ _ X _ X _ _ X _ _ this played through twice is 1 bar, but it's not quite even no matter where I set the swing amount.

You'd think I'd be able to get it with 12 steps, but they always play as 16th notes, and the pattern lasts 3 beats.

If this is too obscure, here's a little video on 12/8 where the hi hat is playing what I want, and it just seems undoable!!!

Is this possible do you know? Am I doing something stupid here?

  • @ejacul337 <3
Thanks for your message, made me really happy! :)

    @JustinOllman
Currently I it is not possible to configure Octachron in a way that allows you to play parts of triplets. But to achieve what you are looking for, you may wanna look into the STEP REPEATS feature. If you for example set

    NUMBER OF STEPS: 4
    CLOCK DIVIDER: 2

You get 4 evenly spaced steps. If you divide each step by 3 by setting STEP REPEATS for each step to 3 you have 12 even steps, but you can only enable or disable in groups of 3.

    Hope that helps?

    Cheers
    Markus

  • @reinerspass Thanks for your reply and distilling what I wanted out of that involved post, I'll try your suggestion

  • How can I write note length in the sequencer. Am I right it is only possible to use the sequencer for drums and percussion? I don’t hope so…

    Hey Cam,

Yes, you are right. It is mainly a drum sequencer as its name and description says.
But as you may have discovered, we have also scales and you can also do basic melodies with it. But no note length, that would be another project that we may start sometime.

Hope you still enjoy the other features of OCTACHRON and best greetings from Munich 😊

  • Im octochron with koala sampler on the 2x8 preset.

Only 8 of my samples play. And am cycling through every note#. Not getting anything more than 8.

    Any help would be appreciated.
