Holy moly, having genre-based fill algorithms would be bloody amazing. Lumbeat’s output remain the best at that (in my opinion), but as others have said many times, the lack of AUV3 on many of the apps make me less likely to reach for them while “in the flow.” This could really fill that gap.

As an aside, I would really love to have some idea of what those algorithms look like.

Yes, we also have that on our list 😊

@TasTax is there a way to specify a default gate length (note duration)? This would help for melodic use (which is my purpose) 😊 I would love to set it to say 1 bar to trigger pad sounds.
Also, besides setting the note of each track by its number, I would love to midi learn it, ie, send a midi note to octachron.

No, because OCTACHRON is optimized for drums. But we think about it.

  • @TasTax if you make a second sequencer a melodic sequencer I’d get it.

Indeed! It's still useful for melodic stuff as it is even though it's not the primary focus!
    Also thanks for answering me.

  • Sorry for the stupid question but what does CC modulation do or how does it work/affect the track. Like I tried to find out how this applies and I wasn’t able to find a YT video or tinker with it to get a result to understand. Would someone mind please explaining or linking me to a video or wiki that shows it; or particularly how it works with the app? TIA

  • Anyway to have the clock divider divided in half in one pattern and then go back to standard ; 4 next song pattern ?

    Heyhey @yellow_eyez,

Well, this is quite a big topic, of course.
I don’t, know if This is the best explanation there is, but here is one:

Modulation parameters like e.g. tune, decay, pan etc. can sometimes be controlled via MIDI CC. It depends on the controlled sound device. In Octachron you can reach them by tapping on velocity in the buttom left and scroll down in the popup. We also describe that in our manual under „Modulation“. Maybe you can also have a look at the two videos on our website www.octachron.de

In our demo video at 0:38 you can see how the modulation parameters of Ruismaker FM are affected by MIDI CC commands.

And in the video of Jakob Haque he also talks a lot about MIDI CC

For Ruismaker, Ruismaker FM and the Korg Gadgets we already have pretty strong CC midi mapping presets in Octachron. So I would recommend these apps for a start.

    Hope that helps
    Best greetings from Munich ✌️😊

No, sorry, clock divider is only global at the moment.

Currently it is not possible to configure Octachron in a way that allows you to play parts of triplets.

Responding again to this comment from a while ago... I'm just wondering if it's on your list to add this facility? I feel it would add a lot to the flexibility of the app.

And if anyone seconds this, please chime in!

Yeah, I want this, A big missing feature, that stops me using the app more. This should also work with probability to add loads of variation from one pattern.

The other thing I want is the ability to move a track or note (like HH) off grid (option to nudge before/after). What I'm doing at the moment is recording MIDI into Koala, then moving off grid.

  • Hi @TasTax ! Beg pardon if this has already been requested as a feature update but: Both Roland Zenbeats & Logic's step sequencers feature bipolar timing "offsets" per step. This is SO great for creating different feels in sequences, that is different than just swing or shuffle. This can, for examples, create a feeling of urgency with rushed kick drums, or laid-back with very-behind-the-beat snares, or groove with high-hats that are nearly off the grid.

Might it be possible to add a bipolar (meaning, ahead of the beat, or behind the beat) timing offset to the modulation row options like velocity, CC modulation, & probability?

    Thanks for listening!

    Hey guys,

yes, triplets would also be great of course, and we have them on our list.
You can now only mimic it a little if you set step repeats to 3.
And yes, as I already wrote before, we are also already working on nudging back and forth.
It is quite tricky though, and we had to rewrite the complete engine for it.
But we are very happy that it basically runs now. It just hasn’t all the features of the current one yet.
As we can run OCTACHRON only as a side project beneath our regular jobs, it will still take a while to complete it. But we hope to achieve it this year.

Hope that helps. Have fun, Thx for your support and best greetings from Munich ✌️😊

Is it possible to specify velocity randomness for each note, @reinerspass? I know I can set the probability for a note, but it would be handy to randomize the velocity of that note as well.

Yes, you can let all CC parameter mutate.
    Did you check the manual?
It is under chapter “ mutation of CC parameters “

    https://www.octachron.de/manual.html#modulation_mutation

    Does that help?

Thanks for the link and sorry for dumb question. I'm a guitarist and MIDI area is still like a nuclear plant for me. Can I use velocity settings described in the "Mutation of Velocity and Step Repeats" section for particular note? Because I assume from that picture that it is a setting for all notes in "Low Tom" row...

EDIT: Nevermind, I just bought Octachron and found that I can definitely live with the current randomize settings per row. Sounds great on Klevgrand Ting! Thank you @TasTax and team!

Great to hear that and thx for the nice jam! 😊

  • @TasTax Thanks! Great news that the triplet thing is on the list.

Hi Tas! Thanks so much for this exciting update! I fully understand that Octachron is a side project. Looking forward to trying these new features as they become available! Take care!

  • For a side project this is a mega app , @TasTax thanks for the dedication and work. I love one shot! But idk if I would’ve loved it AS much without Octachron.

  • Loving this app and using it to write all my drums.

Apologies if I missed it earlier in the discussion but is there a place to download mappings? Finding the Cubasis “vintage machines” a PITA and have lost patience

Thank you very much. But no, not yet unfortunately. But maybe you could start one ☝️ 🙂

  • @TasTax anything on the roadmap for a recording midi into octacron? Programming drums is something I do by feel (and with some how to drum googling) so I suck and clicking little boxes.

I guess the best place will be a PatchStorage so I've made a request there. As I understand it, a few more votes are needed for approval.

I have 4 mappings ready for Ting.

Just voted (commented) on the post! Cheers.

  • How could I forget about PatchStorage?!?!?

    Voted, thanks @filo01

  • Is voting on Patch Storage merely leaving a "yes please" style comment? If so then I voted!

  • @Cambler I believe so. That’s what I did anyway and the “votes” count tallies with that
