  • Is it possible to specify velocity randomness for each note, @reinerspass? I know I can set the probability for a note, but it would be handy to randomize the velocity of that note as well.

Yes, you can let all CC parameter mutate.
    Did you check the manual?
It is under chapter “ mutation of CC parameters “

    https://www.octachron.de/manual.html#modulation_mutation

    Does that help?

Im octochron with koala sampler on the 2x8 preset.

Only 8 of my samples play. And am cycling through every note#. Not getting anything more than 8.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry to hear that. But I just don’t have that problem. I can control all 16 pads with this preset. Does anyone else have this problem?

I tested and not getting anything. Is there a trick to get this to work that I’m missing. Tried searching on google and here.

I understand the old school way of muting channel in Octachron the running a trigger to map each pad in koala. Is this what I need to do with the presets?

Thanks for the link and sorry for dumb question. I'm a guitarist and MIDI area is still like a nuclear plant for me. Can I use velocity settings described in the "Mutation of Velocity and Step Repeats" section for particular note? Because I assume from that picture that it is a setting for all notes in "Low Tom" row...

EDIT: Nevermind, I just bought Octachron and found that I can definitely live with the current randomize settings per row. Sounds great on Klevgrand Ting! Thank you @TasTax and team!

  • Hope you still enjoy the other features of OCTACHRON and best greetings from Munich 😊

    Tas

Well, I certainly am! OCTACHRON is my favorite drum sequencer hands down.
Firstly, the mappings - so simple but makes it so versatile right out of the gate, despite comfort level, it’s never daunting or coming up short (in my experience)

The ratcheting is breathtaking and compliments a Miriam of other audio manglers for instant aphex twin/autecthure polyrhythms.

I can go on an on about how OCTACHRON is just as vital to my creative process as AUM is in AuV hosting.

If you have any of the top tier drum apps on iOS, you owe it to yourself to give OCTACHRON a quick run at the price of less than a large soda, you could find a soulmate in OCTACHRON like I have.

    I 💜 OCTACHRON

  • @TasTax Hi Tas, I know it’s possible to copy/paste patterns, but I often want to copy/paste a lane (usually with more complex velocity settings). Is it somehow possible or something you could put on your list?

Not yet, but interesting idea. We will put it on our list 🙂

Sorry, I didn’t quite get what you want to do.
If we have a midi mapping for your app or hardware, it is the easiest way just to choose that. You don’t have to do more than.

And if not, Best thing is to long press on each track on the left side and try to vary the midi notes.

Great to hear that it worked out for you.
And yes, the CC settings are per step, I guess this is what you meant, no?

  • I want a thump one/chow kick midi mapping if anyone cba

I'm not sure. I know now I can set Probability for each step in row (kick, snare, whatever). I also can set Velocity value for each step individually. But I can't do the same with Velocity Mutation - Chance and Range values are applied to every step in the row. I can't see an option how to apply Velocity Mutation values just for some of the steps in the row. That's how I understood it.

  • @TasTax hey man

Did you ever consider doing that “genre” smart randomization (e.g. hip hop, rock, electronic /techno) ?

  • Hi, @Mickylove.
A combination of either of the following apps’ settings might work well. (Sorry if I've misunderstood something about your problem.)

    Koala: C1
    Octachron: KOALA SAMPLER 2X8

    or
    Koala: C1
    Octachron: KOALA SAMPLER 4X4

Ah no, that’s right. You can set the initial CC value for each step. But range and chance of mutation is for the whole row.
Would you like to set that per step individually as well? And if yes, what would you like to do with that?

Thank you @TasTax, you are very kind. My dream is to have AUv3 drum machine as close as possible to Lumbeat's Rock/Funk/Soft drummers and that's why I tried to find out a way how to "humanize" pattern in Octachron even more. BUT your positive answer to @yellow_eyez request about "genre" smart randomization is exactly what I wanted to achieve. So I'm sitting tight and keeping my fingers crossed for you.

That’s excellent to hear. By all means, continue developing steadily but strongly as you are. We will continue to support you !

Thanks, I would definitely vote for this one, very useful. Also Solo feature for row will be helpful.

@TasTax is there a way to specify a default gate length (note duration)? This would help for melodic use (which is my purpose) 😊 I would love to set it to say 1 bar to trigger pad sounds.
Also, besides setting the note of each track by its number, I would love to midi learn it, ie, send a midi note to octachron.

  • edited September 15

Would it be possible to preserve Octachron current preset name in Loopy Pro, @TasTax ?
When I change Loopy project and switch back then Octachron is showing preset patterns correctly but there is no preset name in brackets for "Save" command in "Presets" menu.

PS: I think the "Save As" procedure should have a validation part and an "overwrite" dialog if the preset name already exists:

  • I <3 OCTACHRON, my proudest ios purchase.

  • Holy moly, having genre-based fill algorithms would be bloody amazing. Lumbeat’s output remain the best at that (in my opinion), but as others have said many times, the lack of AUV3 on many of the apps make me less likely to reach for them while “in the flow.” This could really fill that gap.

As an aside, I would really love to have some idea of what those algorithms look like.
