I have good news for everyone who got frustrated (that includes myself) by the day-one limitation of Xequence 1 and 2 where playback or recording stopped 64 bars after the end of the last clip: IT WILL BE GONE IN THE NEXT UPDATE! :o

    Thank you! :)

    Hurray!

  • Just left a nice and juicy AppStore review!

Come guys, let’s help this wonderful developer; take a few seconds to update you AppStore review, please?

Thanks for such an amazing midi sequencer!

Thanks a lot... yes, a few nice reviews do help because it's a new app and the old reviews understandably cannot be migrated.

    Much appreciated! :)

Given how long this thread is, I'm sure this question has been answered, I just can't find it. I have my Novation Remote setup to control my iPad via a ZOOM U24 MIDI I/O. I can play synths with AUM, and the MIDI IN button under MIDI INPUT in the Settings menu blinks when I hit a note. I have a channel in Xequence that is routed to AUM and I have the MIDI Input of it set to channel 1 from the Zoom. I can't, for the life of me, get any sound when I hit a key on the keyboard, however.

NEVER MIND: It records, just didn't have MIDI Thru setup to control AUM. Very odd. I'd assume that playing a channel would automatically trigger the connected synth.

Ace. Thanks very much. And I must say I’m really enjoying X2. It all seems so much smoother.

  • @SevenSystems did you ever work on that SunVox file for Xequence?
If not, gonna try working something up for X2. Just in doubt if we should just wait SunVox AU to come around

Haha, sorry, didn't get around to do that... but I guess the main purpose of the included demo songs is just to get a quick impression of how arranging and editing works and of the complexity that can be achieved. That works even without sound 😎

  • Really liking the depth of this :)

Is there a way to save custom scales? I can't see how.
Also, when you create notes and then select a scale afterwards it tells you the notes are out of the scale, but I wish it would force notes into the scale like Modstep does, I love that workflow and would be great here too :)

OK. I bought is and can't figure out how to hook up the microphone for audio.
Oh... I forgot. That's way off in the future coming as Xilencio "The DAW". My bad.

So, far it looks like Xequence #1 without the store. Still wearing black. Will you add a store?
I'm addicted to buying IAP's in the @SevenSisters apps.

#1 Request: Can you make it an AUv3 App in the MIDI FX slot?
#2 Request: Can it load AUv3 MIDI FX?
#3 Request: Can you make videos showing me how to use it with a Roland JX-3P synth?
#4 Request: Can you port it to run on Windows 95 with the SoundBlaster AWE 32?

There's currently no way to save custom scales or copy them to another instrument, but it's quite easy to just use the clipboard (INSERT menu) to copy the notes or clip to a different track / instrument and then do "Scale from Selection" again.

Moving notes to fit into the current scale is certainly a good idea, I'll keep that in mind for a future update, gotta think about how that would work in detail.

cool thanks :) I also find myself wanting to change scales when in Polyhymnia so would be a nice feature if you could select a scale whilst that mode.

So true. And your song demos are awesome work

I think i'm just being lazy too

  • In the new update, the metronome starts beeping at bar 64 during recording.

  • Hi,
Using xequence 2 on an iPad air 12.3.1. with audio bus.
No matter what I do I can't get the system settings in xequence to persist. Meaning, I set up my settings with midi in on...no wide track labels..etc. I then save the xequence project and the audio bus session. When I then reload the ab session the sequence settings are back to default. I load the xequence project and they are still at default. This can't be right, right?
    Thanks in advance.

  • @purpan2 @FlowingRobes thanks for the reports, will be looked into shortly and a fix provided!

    Continuing MIDI file export-import exploration...

Exporting SMF files from Gadget and importing into Xequence 2 produced kind of a mess, but it looks like it's because of Gadget 2's idiosyncratic MIDI file handling.

Exported song from Cubasis 2 and imported as MIDI file into Xequence 2. Generally looks ok, except the bass line was 4 octaves too high. But I was able to fix it in Xequence 2 by doing a Select All, then doing Process->Octave down a couple of times. The drum part is another issue - more below.

Attempted to export a song from SunVox to Xequence, also via .mid file. Xequence 2 also generated multiple tracks off of the one file just fine. However, the bass line was changed from repeating, fast-attack notes to sustained drones.

Now the drum part. In all my experiments I've been trying to use Ruismaker FM in AUM. Ruismaker FM drum kits are 6-part kits, mapped to MIDI notes C#2, D#2, F#2, G#2, A#2, and C#3. Unfortunately, the MIDI data for drum parts are never mapped to those notes.

Ok, so the question for the day. Which video shows how to select a row of notes inside a clip, and move the entire row up or down a chromatic note or two? I want to see if I can still use Ruismaker FM or if I need to get a drum app that can handle a wider variety of notes. I can't figure how how to drag the selected notes without moving the grid at the same time. Or even just tap on one note and move it up or down a semitone.

  • @GovernorSilver you cannot transpose chromatically except if you actually select "Black Keys" or "Chromatic" in the scale menu for the instrument on the keyboard screen. Once you do that, you can just transpose chromatically using the vertical handle.

Thanks. I was able to transpose chromatically a few minutes ago.

However I am unable to duplicate this feat. I did the following inside the Edit Grid view:

    1. Tapped one of the notes on the C4 row.
    2. Tapped Select->Note
    3. Tapped the handle with the Up and Down arrows to transpose. The entire grid turns kind of white but won't let me tranpose the notes.

Side note regarding midi files for drum parts. I’ve always been vexed by the problems switching out drum apps due to them all having different note assignments. Drives me nuts.

So, I’m working on a Mozaic script that can translate between various drum mappings. For instance, set input to GM Drums and output to Ruismaker. Or, set input to Gadget, output to GM Drums, etc.

It’s a tedious and time-consuming chore, but I hope to finish it sometime this month.

I forgot to mention I got the latest Xequence 2 update today from the App Store.

I don't think transpose works any more.

I just recorded a short little track with one instrument - Resonator. I then selected a note and tried to transpose using the vertical handle. Doesn't work.

It was so easy to transpose just a few days ago. I barely had to look at the manual to do it.

Could you make a short video (screen recording) showing the issue so I can have a look? There's probably a misunderstanding there.

Screen recording has been sent to the support email address. Thanks!

  • Can't believe I forgot to drag on that vertical handle to transpose. Big ups to @SevenSystems though for the quick support.

What I learned from trying to import the song from SunVox and another song from Cubasis 2 is that it can make the composing process harder if one decides to switch MIDI sequencers in the middle of a project. There's the drum mapping thing that wim is volunteering to try to help on with Mozaic. Then there's oddness like a bass line being tranposed multiple octaves up and stuff like that because the receiving synths might be expecting something different.

The Cubasis song was a throwaway. The SunVox song... not sure if I'll stick to SunVox to finish that song or try to move it over to Xequence. Will probably use Xequence for new compositions going forward.

When you say that the bass line is being transposed up, are you sending the MIDI to the same instrument that was originally used?

A lot of bass patches on synths are themselves transposed down so that playing middle c on a keyboard is playing a note a couple of octaves down. This is done to make it more convenient to play bass lines from keyboards with limited range.

For me this is the strongest draw for Xequence 2. When I start a project, I rarely know what the best app or combination of apps will be. I also don’t really want to have to adapt to the different piano roll editors of each app. By starting with Xequence 2 all I need to do is re-point the midi output to the new destination.

The big gap though is audio. I wish there was an app like Multitrack DAW that could synchronize to Xequence’s timeline.

... Or that Xequence 2 had an IAP for simple audio tracks where you could drop in audio clips on the timeline. No app hosting, FX, timestretch, or anything, just tracks that play back audio clips rather than midi clips. Hint. Hint. Hint. ;) :#

The unexpected transposed bass line was from the Cubasis project. Original synth was Micrologue. The replacement bass synth was Troublemaker hosted in AUM.

You might be right about the Micrologue patch being transposed down before I even started sequencing it.

Another bit of oddness regarding exporting a bassline via MIDI... In my Sunvox song, the bass line was a simple repetitive line. The synth was internal to Sunvox, it's the module(s) that was set up for bass in the template that now comes with Sunvox. The replacement synth for Xequence 2 was Model 15. The repeating bass note was replaced by a sustained drone. Also the notes sounded transposed at least 2 octaves down. Go figure.

Different apps or even patches can play different octaves for the same note. That has nothing to do with Xequence. It’s just the way apps work.

Your SunVox issue is most likely due to the way SunVox works. If you don’t set an OFF event in the sequencer, SunVox notes sustain until the next note plays. You don’t hear that in SunVox because the patch you’re using decays quickly. The Model 15 patch probably has a longer envelope. If you set a shorter decay and/or release in the Model 15 Amp envelope, it might help. Otherwise you need to shorten the notes (fortunately extremely easy to do in Xequence 2), or drop in OFF events into the SunVox timeline.
