Hi there - dev speaking - visiting this forum every now and then to read comments and suggestions :-)

Here's a video that explains most of the features of TB Equalizer (not produced by ToneBoosters, but by Ed from Apps4iDevices):

The plan is indeed to release some more of the desktop plugins for iOS/iPad. We have one new one currently sitting in the Appstore review queue alongside with an update for the Equalizer (to allow full screen in Garageband, and to facilitate improved manual entry of parameter values using the onscreen keyboard).

If there are suggestions on what plugin(s) to port first, simply chime in!

Thanks for this! I wish there were more demo videos done exactly like this one is.

Can you elaborate a bit on how the circuit drive fuction and the little speaker with the sparkles works? I can hear what it's doing, but a bit more detail on how and when they should be used would be helpful.

  • Big up @DJB!! Welcome to ABF!

  • Agree with @ecou on the size of that menu. Could be bigger. Great EQ. Thank you!

Hopefully the dev will correct me if I'm wrong...

The speaker with the sparkles is Auto MakeUp (AMU in the manual). It's not your typical makeup gain found on most compressors, it's unrelated to the dynamics section, instead it will compensate for your gain settings across the whole spectrum. It's quite unusual in an eq, but I could see it being useful if f.e you have your best mix ever, all the balances are just perfect but there is something wrong at certain frequencies, you fix the issues on individual tracks (cutting, boosting) while AMU keeps your overall mix balanced.

Circuit drive is a bit of color/saturation/non-linearity. It's kinda dynamic process, but it doesn't directly relate to the dynamics section. It adds to flexibility due to you are able to dial in the desired amount even on curves that designed to be precise.

Much appreciate the full screen in GarageBand 👍👍👍

how does the UI scale in cubasis?I like the way Pro Q does, leaving space for the arrangement screen.

Scratch my stupid question.I‘ve been away from ios music for 7—8 months and just saw a screenshot from cubasis+proq. Now that i installed this stuff on my new ipad i realized the things that changed in the meantime...

My fat finger keep hitting something else when trying to change the Q or the Color.

It seems made to be used with a mouse. I’ll correct myself, it was designed to be used with a mouse.

i never expected to find a new favorite eq (on ios) after using pro Q(2) for many years but here we are.I still do love Pro q and i will continue to use it in Auria but since i don't have any FF as AU yet...the descision was easy.

I have a fearure request though. The tiny little control floater is really...tiny.Almost unusable if not going full screen.A tad bigger would be great.! You could also move the menus below the eq window (AI assist,Analyzer etc.) a bit more to the bottom to have a bigger eq window.

  • on this picture the UI looks perfect,it also scales properly left/right.Was this the first version?

something to do with ‘high screen resolution’ in cubasis, if you have a pro 10.5 or 12 .. if you turn it off it seems to scale a little bit better ( but that isn’t so helpful elsewhere in cubasis ) ... but still not as boldly as that screen shot you have.. so must be something in the update?? time to inform the dev methinks..

  • Thanks, switching it off helped indeed. At least for left/right scaling not for the small Ui.And to me it looks like a 10,5 ipad in the second screend, which i also have (pro).

Was holding out for Morphit and didn’t think I’d need this since most everything goes to the laptop to mix on monitors, but this.... is great!

May i ask if you noticed any CPU performance improvement by switching off high res?

I didn't stress test it but i switched cubasis back to higher resolution nonetheless because of more workspace and smaller buttons etc.

  • Thanks - we are implementing some improvements re responsiveness to different GUI layouts and sizes - stay tuned :-)

On to some of the questions:

    • the little speaker icon with the stars is the 'auto makeup' button. When enabled, if you boost certain frequencies, a gain, F and Q dependent attenuation is applied in an attempt to keep the overall loudness constant. For cuts, this will obviously be an overall gain. This works best for broad-band content.

    • The analog drive function: simply enable it with the little transistor/tube icon. You can drive it less or harder by changing the dB value next to it. A higher value will drive the signal harder into the non-linear stages of the filters, resulting in beautiful harmonic saturation (content dependent). In contrast to many other approaches out there that simply stick a non-linear element before or after a conventional EQ, this one actually interacts with the filtering. The more EQ you apply, the more non-linear saturation you'll get (as with a real analog non-linear EQ).

  • Wow, finally got a chance to dig into this.. So this is what an equalizer has evolved into.. Gating frequencies etc. Brilliant.. a must get for my desktop DAW, Sonar.. Mixing is more detailed with stuff like this..

    Thanks Mr. TB.. 🙏

  • Got this one instead of other EQ offerings. No regrets; this thing is a whole different league to anything else I've seen :)

Reelbus please. I used to use the wow & flutter on that all the time and would love to have that on iOS. :)

Well, We still don't have a fully featured and semi-modular (ie. freely order the effects in a processing chain) channel strip AUv3 on iOS unless we build our own in hosts such as AUM.

So with the tools you already have available there at ToneBoosters it could be a nice idea to do a 'channel strip' consisting of a Gate/Expander, DeEsser/EQ/Exciter, Compressor/Limiter type of plug-in where the order could be freely chosen.

Another one would be just a plug-in to do gain staging (Gain/Trim, Gate, Expand, Compress & Limit with optional 'creative' saturation and enhancing/exciting options).

I know, this is just wishful thinking but there, I've let the wish out in the open :)

Thank you, that's exactly what I'm missing too.
Bummer that Audio Damage missed the chance to do it with their "ChannelStrip".

Don't know but considering Audiodamage are apparently re-working most of their plug-ins there's hope for the ChannelStrip too. I do like the features in their exsisting ChannelStrip but the UI leaves a lot to be wished for, so if it gets the same neat treatment as EOS2 it'll be loads of fun :)

Problem with audiodamage is their ios app’s have bugs 🐛 and some never get fixed.

Guess I've been 'lucky' then because I've not bumped into any real 'show stoppers' using their stuff...
(Maybe I'm just using them 'as intended' or something?!). And well, I'm not using tons of instances, maybe 3-4 at once and mostly for sound-design.(ie. to create samples).

  • Feedback on this app and their reverb sounds good, might take the plunge for both today.

Are they capable of similar results to the Fabs?

Maybe test the demos on you PC/MAC first?

The reverb really is excellent. Pair it with the Rooms! new AUv3 version (Beta) with your own samples as IRs and that free PhaseDelayArray(?) app that surfaced the other day and I think you will have enough to play with till this day next year.

Oh and Happy Birthday by the way @MonzoPro

Ah thank you! I’ve got £30 from the Mrs to spend, so I think the reverb is definitely on the cards. I’ve got the Fabfilter EQ in Auria, but nothing AU-wise so I reckon I’ll get this one too.

What’s Rooms? Haven’t heard of that one...

Update: just checked my email - thanks Joc!!!!

For me it's the opposite: The UI looks OK but it just wouldn't do what I need in my DAW channel.

These are superb, don't be fooled by the ridiculously generous price!!! I haven't used FabFilter so I can't comment but I would be very surprised if you regret getting both of the TB apps.

Edit: Happy Birthday Monzo, didn't notice that before! I need coffee

Thank you! Yeah bought both earlier - really impressed. The reverb is very good, I haven’t got the Fabfilter or Eventide to compare, but I’m getting some epic sounds from it. I have EOS2 and the TB seems much more flexible.

I have Q2 in Auria - but never really got on with it, I just seemed to make things sound worse. The Tonebooster is the first AU I’ve bought for use in AUM, and again I’m very impressed. The ‘widening’, de-essing and bass/middle boosting made an instant improvement to an existing track, and managed to bring out instruments hidden in a muddy mix.

£11.98 for the two apps is an absolute bargain.
