Why am I loving the pattern length button so much?

    Because polyrhythms are the bomb!

Surely most other drum apps have this?

    Sadly they don’t.

Patterning, DM1 do. DM2 inexplicably doesn’t. ElasticDrums does. The drum machine inside zenbeats doesn’t but the pattern editor in zenbeats has a loop brace that allows pattern lengths that aren’t a multiple of a bar. Not a drum machine but steppolyarp does. Can’t remember about octatrack. Gadget’s sequencer is limited to multiples of bars. Also not a drum machine but Xynthesizr allows variable number of steps. Seems like more don’t than do.

Good. Also find it interesting that all new drum releases send me back to revisit DM1 at some point...

  • Looking forward to the update and enjoying the app so far 😀

I thought this may be of interest to some of you https://reverb.com/uk/software/samples-and-loops/reverb/3514-reverb-drum-machines-the-complete-collection

  • @Jonah66 you can simply import one kit at time with the multiple files import ;)

Thanks for encapsulating the apps that do or don't have this feature.
All I know is that when I have a simple-ish beat of 16 steps and then start trying 7,9,12,14 etc.. for the length.. magic is just around the corner. Not always and not every beat BUT a good number of them suddenly have a different persona which leads me down unknown paths.. I treasure those moments and apps that take me there..

I hear you. Finding apps that either have variable pattern length, variable number of steps, or loop braces that allow looping not locked into a multiple of a bar has become something of an obsession. The lightbulb went on when I started manipulating loop braces in Ableton. The video on this page illustrates that nicely.

Undo, for instance, on my ill-advised "Feel It in the Air Tonight" tom fills. A quick UNDO or REVERT button would save the trouble of going to the grid and poking the offending notes away.

Just discovered this.. If you’re in Grid mode and wish to erase all notes of a certain drum e.g. closed hi hat, just hold down the delete button on the left and touch the name of the instrument which will now be flashing in green.. voila.. all notes for that pad are gone.. I know.. not an undo BUT pretty quick to clear a few pads. Much faster than poking at each note.. It’s on Page 2 in the manual.

DM2 has individual lane lenghts as far as I remember. In my opinion the best/easiest/most visually appealing drum synth on iOS.

@ElliottGarage Having problems with the GUI scaling when changing AU window size inside AUM. I’m losing the bottom part of the window. iPad Pro 9.7. Resizing to different scales doesn’t seem to work as smoothly as with other drum pad AU on offer. Loving the app by the way the update looks fab. Hope you can sort out these little teething problems.

  • @Jumpercollins the GUI will resize based on the width (because you can then scroll it). I decided to use this design so that when hosted in daw like NS2 or BT or nTrack and the plugin window is minimized you get an optimal size and you can scroll to access the rest of the GUI

@ElliottGarage Ok cheers understand why you done it that way just finding it a bit fiddly at times at present compared with other au apps that I use. Can understand why as the pads keep a nice size.

Review and 5 stars left thanks for the great app and all your hard work.

  • Whats going to be the best way to use it multiple instances? Is there a way of knowing where you are in song mode, whatever instance you are on? If there isnt a way, is there a way to have a line move horizontal on every instance, in time with the first instance song chain. Or make the line be notches and a moving line based on probably the first instance. It would be like a general universal secondary sequencer.

  • Not sure. I dont think you need probabilty as much, when you got 16 patterns x 16 steps all with individual effects. It already has record ability to any part of where you are in a song chain ( instead of a volca for instance, where you would have to copy and paste or stop to program ) Id prefer to input manually, then subtract or adjust from the grid.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Anybody says polyrhythms? Se a loop on each lane and it's done ...soon in the app
    https://app.elliottgarage.com/Pulse

  • Any word on triplet and dotted rhythms please? 😀

  • thanks for the review @Jumpercollins !

@royor the app if full of this little workflow tricks...I even don't know if they're all in the manual :D

  • @yowza not yet...but you can already set a different length (say 48 steps) to create a triplet groove

  • Does this app receive clock in i.e. if using external hardware running as master clock?

  • @Lurcher no midi clock. It can sync with ableton link that I find more reliable. Or you can switch patterns via MIDI program change, or sendi MIDI notes from external hardware

How do I save? I created a kit and saved it, but after then when I select ‘save’ it doesn’t t save, it just loads up the u saved version of the file. I’m really confused - I must be doing something stupidly wrong but I can’t figure it out! Thanks.

  • @audio_DT did you press the ‘+’ icon in the top right of kits and set your kit name?

  • @ElliottGarage any news about midi out?

  • Awesome re: polyrhythms @ElliottGarage

  • @Faland put my words on it yesterday. Probably out during next week.

Sorry, I’ve done it. Note to self: read the bloody manual 👍
