Which reminds me... did you know three Jews invented car A/C? That’s right! And their names are on the dashboard ( or used to be).... Norm, Hy and Max. 😅😂🥶

You mean Randy Newman? If so, then good point. The song is a parody meant to illustrate by absurdity. Today he'd be burned at the stake regardless of whether anyone got the joke.

    Yes, Newman. Apologies for mistake.

‘Short People’ received hostile reception originally. Until people listened to what was said, and understood that writer meant whatever our differences, we have more in common. Also, you are right about today. Some have humour bypass. :)

You make point for me. It does not matter what nationality I am, what name I use, or how I choose to express myself. All that matters is what is said, and what is created. Anyone more interested in colour of skin or race misses point. Your ‘real’ name likely not ‘Plankton.’ But who cares. :)

@ZenLizard, respectfully, please explain to me what is glib about this thread and many of the thought provoking comments in it? Certainly there is humor here, but what is life without humor... I won’t answer that.. you might think I am being glib.

    you glib fuck..... ;)

Nope. Of course not. But if if I was a mod, I wouldn’t have started it.

    +1.

@CracklePot, what would you call the collective mental disorder of a particular society? Or do you think there is no such thing? I will not give any historical examples to keep this from tilting in the wrong direction. But we can all think of at least one

I think of that as a sort of large scale mob mentality situation. I think people taking cues from others around them can cause instant temporary insanity in extreme cases.

For whole societies to go down the path of insanity, that usually happens in small, nearly imperceptible steps. The insanity can seemingly erupt out of nowhere sometimes, but when you look back you can see that the pressure had been building over time.

The truth is though, that within an insane society, insanity is sanity.
Only outsiders or other societies view the insane society as insane.
If the whole world went insane, and only I was aware of that fact, then I would be the insane one, relatively speaking.

  • Sanity is predictable, and insanity necessarily isn't. They keep you on your toes, the mad folk.

You'll note that creativity and genius get swirled up in the mix, oftentimes, like raspberries in the vanilla. But I think the trick is to find the things that people should have predicted, but didn't.

Alice Cooper - Welcome to My Nightmare

    https://youtu.be/aOeP4p1fjMs

No one think Alice really insane. No one think Alice really woman. No one think Alice really possessed. No one think Alice really bleed. No one think Alice mocking mental illness. All who look behind the mask see not deception, but show. Reality is Vincent Furnier, decent human.

This what Orwell showed in ‘1984.’ In particular with ‘doublespeak.’ Other great writer, Huxley, predicted we would become trivia culture. Itself a form of madness.

You might have the golden helmet but are you “the chosen one”...? 😆

😂 You guys aren’t into comic books? Carl Barks history?
It’s from a famous Donald Duck episode, where Donald is an Assistent at a museum where he finds the Golden Helmet, and whomever finds it, is the king & owner of America  It’s a classic, like the in the Andes story.., Square hens laying Square Eggs. Much wisdom in comic strips. Made of paper... remember paper?

All time great of comics, Batman and Joker, about two sides of insanity. Also, ‘Remember Paper’ great title for song.

  • Thank you, my friends. I know many disagreed with this post and it's subject, but, once more this forum showed great forbearance, maturity and restraint. The feared politics and religion never entered the discussion. Criticism was civil. Some very good things were said. And some funny things as well. Thanks especially to @RUST( i )K and @ZenLizard for their contributions.

  • Ok @robosardine, what is on your mind?

  • And equilibrium is again restored. Thank you, @LinearLineman

  • Does this thread now have the ‘keep sinking’ setting? That should probably be stated when switched on so people don’t start putting in bug requests

  • @gusgranite, My error. I look forward to the future of this discussion.

What is on my mind? You will need to move in with me and my family and listen to me for at least a fortnight if you want to find out... and good luck with that. btw- where in the world are you? For some reason I imagine you being a Canadian or maybe American?
Anyway- I will happily answer your question if you can be more specific with it 🙂

  • edited August 2019

@robosardine, sorry, I thought you felt you hadn’t had the opportunity to speak. I am an American who has lived in Turkey for the last three years. Talk about insanity. Or maybe it is the other way around,

  • Talking about comics...

Does anyone here remember Marshal Law?

Yep, I also remember paper, especially when I draw.

  • Thanks- no I felt I had adequate opportunity.. up until the old garrotte was applied.
Do you mean ‘I have been living in Turkey for the past three years- talk about insanity!’ or ‘This is where I have been living’, ‘Could you now please talk about insanity’... and the next part about maybe being the other way round.... you mean you’re maybe an insane turkey thats been talking about living in America? 😀

  • @robosardine, purposely confusing as a true representation of my personal situation. Turkey is pretty messed up (tho the people are great, especially in the cities). You can research the details if you like. It is somewhat insane... like the punishment for a rapist now being that, by law, he must marry his victim. Talk about speed dating! Sorry, can’t help wisecracking. It is abominable.

OTOH, living in today’s America when one has the opportunity to have a foreign adventure... well, some might see the latter as the better choice. Please don’t misunderstand, I love America, but not in a nationalistic way. It is a very cool place and will survive this long festering divisiveness currently at pustule bursting stage, IMO. And, ironically, I probably will be back there in short order. Now, my friend... more or less confused?

  • Probably about on a par in golfing terms. I have also been to Turkey and yes many of its people are wonderful.
I am very lucky to live in Scotland. I wouldn’t want to live anywhere else. It’s great. It really is.

Bringing everything around, adding to comics. My all time personal favorite was The Maxx, which was completely about the fine line between sanity/insanity, the nature of reality, and the walls and realities that we build to protect ourselves from the pains of “reality “.

    Beautiful stuff.
