from "Selected" to "Always" and eventually choose midi channel on streen which @tja posted

Only until you use Obsidian, Slate and build in FX - because they are super efficient they do not drain CPU too much... Add some CPU heavy AUs into game and your battery will die in pain soon

Holy shit.
I finally started using this after grabbing some of the soundpacks.
I am pretty blown away by how well this app is designed.
It was really easy to figure out just by diving in.
The midi editor is extremely great to use on touchscreen, very smooth and functional.
I know I am late to the party, but I just had to gush about how awesome this app is.

Yeah I’m not gonna use any AU’s on the phone. I just work on stuff when I’m doing nothing for a little bit so I’m just using straight NS2 on the iPhone. It truly is amazing.

Im pretty interested in what you are doing with NS2 on your iPhone, since you’re doing hip hop with it ( seems like most of the guys here are more on the electro stuff) would you please share some stuff with us? I’m looking for some sort of inspiration

Yep. I do this pretty regularly (sequencing NS2 from Digitakt or Quantum or ...). Set each track to its own MIDI channel, make sure you have 'Always' selected and bob's your uncle. I went ahead and created a 16-track template where each track always responds to it's own MIDI channel. We should prolly talk about project templates more. They're really handy!

This setup is also useful when using an external MIDI controller which allows you to change the MIDI channel easily. Just change the channel and you're playing/recording a new track—no need to even touch NS.

I was going to link you to much of the stuff @dendy just responded with as I use BM3 and Egoist for all things hip hop. I’m new to NS2 myself and have been primarily using the iPhone version to make sound patches and loops I later chop in other apps. I don’t have any completed compositions yet.

I’m definitely a big fan of the app tho and will continue to explore how to fit it into my workflow more.

So I have an idea on how to cut a loop up and play a new pattern with it...

Load same break onto 8 pads in Slate....set the start point for each pad to the next percussive element in the break....then set the ADSR to avoid playing further into the break...

Then play each pad....

Yet I’m unable to select a sample start point on a pad.....anyone know how to do this?

yes, just change "type" in mixdown settings based on which tracks you want to export

A very good friend made me a script which converts the Kit Maker (https://www.kit-maker.com) Maschine library for BeatMaker to NanoStudio 2 Slate format and keeps the correct pad order!

I've made a short tutorial video for anyone not familiar with Python and using Terminal etc, and how to copy over the library using the WebDAV in NanoStudio. You can also see how smooth browsing the kits in Slate is towards the end. I made this on macOS, but the process is basically the same on Windows.

Instructions:

1. Download and install Python 3 - https://www.python.org/downloads/

2. Duplicate BeatMaker 2 kits folder to another location

3. Copy “BeatNano.py” and “Package.slt” files to the duplicate folder

4. Open Terminal - type “cd “ and drag the duplicate folder to terminal, press enter

5. Run script with “python3 BeatNano.py”

6. Copy all library folders to “Instruments/Slate/User” folder using the WebDav in Nanostudio 2 settings, or Airdrop to Files app.

I did not try, but when you doubleclick on a track in the mixer, you get to this screen, where you can select the MIDI Input(s).
I see no reason why one MIDI source could not be used my several tracks.

I’m toying with setting up a 6 voice pseudo-MPE set up with multiple instances of Obsidean playing the same patch. Don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t work if I set up the midi channels correctly and have something like the KB-1 app rotate the midi channel it sends notes and ccs to around channels 1-6.

simplest way, im case ot is more complex file structure (with subdirectories) - just use Apple Files app and copy them from Dropbox into "On My iPad > Nanostudio 2 > Library > Audio" ... then you can browse samples from Slate...
