No offense intended Captain!
I know this gets asked all the time, and I have a bit of a tough time navigating the Blip forums so apologies, but now that this is universal, AUv3 FX automation or audio tracks next? Anyone in the know?
most probably audio tracks but in parallel with audio tracks at least one small
update is very likely too, with some fixes and smaller tweaks based on requests, so who knows... not every plan is written in stone
anyway, of course audio tracks is now task with priority level infinity :-))
Audio tracks would make this easily the best DAW on iOS. AU FX automation would push it over the top even further!
Amen, these two items would make it my number one recommendation always. But, great news thanks @dendy - glad to hear it and anxiously awaiting being able to open my wallet to Matt again
hopefully then he can get more IAP soundpacks in order to keep the monies flowing in
Keeping on the horse which is the amazing NS2 this week...testing out only using Obsidian and Slate instruments on this track:
Anyone having issues with sound missing on Slate, on iPhone? (I’ve not read the mega thread)
It’s a big deal but maybe I’m stupid (I checked no mire or solo involved)
No problem here
I’m gonna guess that somehow you got the track un grouped from under the main mix. Or maybe disabled “send audio to parent” by mistake.
Guess #2: You added an AU Midi FX like Rozeta XOX and are now trying to play the pads. That won’t work. It’s either XOX or the pads, not both.
Thanks @wim, I’ll check the first thing
Any chance you moved project file with custom samples to other directory and you didn't saved Slate bank before this ?
If this the case, just move project back to it's previous dir, save slate bank and then you can move project where you want.
If you use any custom samples in Obsidian or Slate, until you don't save patch or bank, they are within project file linked with relative path.
So, if you move just project file, it looses paths to samples.
When you save patch or bank, samples are bundled together with it. (copy of samples
is stores inside patch / bank)
If you do project "archive", it creates self containing package with all used samples - in this case you don't need to save patches/banks individually.
what i do, if my project contains some samples and i want to move it - i just make archive, then i reopen it back from archive - now it contains all samples and i can move it anywhere i want...
@wim
Hold on, so you can drive slate/Obsidean with Rozeta from within NS2? I thought you couldn’t?
Yup. Works well.
The big drawback is you can’t record the MIDI out of rozeta into NS2 without workarounds such as using MIDItools which isn’t available on iPhone.
on iPhone there is workaround too: https://www.blipinteractive.co.uk/community/index.php?p=/discussion/989/how-to-record-aufx-midi-out-on-iphone
So you can play it when running the song in the app but can't actually bake it in when mixing down? Is that it?
(And just to confirm something else, you can't record any AU FX automation, right?)
No, it is playing realtime and it is part of mixdown.. you just cannot directly record output of MIDI plugin into NS2 sequencer track .. i mean notes generated/changed by MIDI plugin - they are always sent just to instrument, not back to sequencer (whole MIDI data flow is like on traditional desktop DAWs: MIDI INPUT -> SEQENCER -> MIDIfx -> INSTRUMENT )
Correct, not yet.
Oh, that's cool about Rozeta then. I'll load it up and just leave it on a track and then it'll be included!
Thanks @dendy
Turns out I had assigned Multitrack recorder to that track and forgot.
Slowly I figure it out: now Ive learned it’s possible to assign Multitrack to an instrument track w/o an instrument
you can put multitrack also as insert fx and still hear instrument's audio - you just need to activate "monitor" button - multitrack then passes incomining audio to output... this is good for resampling from other instrument
If there is anyone out there who could figure out how to also convert these into EG Pulse format, or maybe BeatHawk that would also be amazing! (AUV3 drum format)
I do not have a clue where to start with converting libraries... loving this in NanoStudio tho. Cheers again
I'm afraid I don't have either of those apps, so not sure what their kit files or folder structure look like.
The script basically just copies the names of the .wavs from the bmk2 files, creates the package.slt files that NS2 uses in each subfolder, inserts the filenames at the right places, and renames all the subfolders with .slt at the end.
Glad you are enjoying it in Nanostudio! I've got my whole Maschine library in Slate on my iPhone, which is awesome
Really nice
Wait.... am I crazy? Can you not access the keyboard from the FX view?
Nope. That’s the way it is.
wow
Retrospectively, i realised this limitation had very good impact to my production.. before my NS era i got often stucked in endless cycle of FX tweaking without recording anything meaningful into sequencer
Now i record melodies, chords, i make meaningfull song structure (often with just init or just rough approximate preset) - and with existing looped melody i go FX chain and start tweak FXs... often i record FX automations almost at very end, when basically whole song structure is done.
It helped me solve this "stucked in fx tweaking" issue and now i can move forward with song structure lot faster.. It helped me understans that even in electronic music composition (in terms of melodies, harmonic progressions, stuff like that) is far away superior over sound. It helped me build wall between composition and sound design/mixing stages...
Of course that's just my point of view, 10 people 10 diferent workflows... This feature was requested by many users and it has it's place on todolist
As "dendy, member of NS team" i wish for all of you this feature to be added at some point, there were already discussed some UI methods how to do it, some more doable, other less... anyway it's still opened topic...
On other side - as "dendy, NS user" i hope this limitation will stay there, it helps me to break my bad production habits :-))) I'm pretty sure after this feature will be added i end again i that damn endless fx tweaking cycle
))
Yeah I’m gonna need to tweak my delay while I play.
Not sure if this has been answered already but how do you load in midi files? I’ve worked out how to import them from Dropbox in to Ns2 but how do you actually then load it to play?
