  • It’s not a dedicated looper, it’s not a substitute for a daw. It’s a track recorder. It’s great for that.

This guy knows how to use it well

IOS: AUM And MultiTrack recording Workflow
Stay to the end for a bonus tip.

  • Paul the dev kindly got back to me on this, I think he won’t mind me sharing here:

There is a little trick that helps allow looping….

    Load the plugin in AUM.
Create a loop by dragging on the ruler and make sure loop mode is enabled.
Disable ‘Host Sync’ but enable ‘Remote’.
Place the cursor at the start of the loop.

Now when you press PLAY it will loop the selected section. When you stop the transport it will home the cursor to the start of the loop.

Yes, that works. Also the pop up when pressing «Remote» is just an info box, does not even have to press «OK» o:)

Thanks for getting that confirmation. That’s what I remembered, but was unable to test at the time,

What is a bit unfortunate is you can’t use this same method for recording in AUM unless you arm a dummy AUM track for recording. Recording with Remote requires pressing Rec in AUM, but AUM doesn’t let you press Rec when no AUM tracks are armed. That’s a bit annoying, but Paul never seemed interested in ideas to change that.

With the current massive improvements of LK we are moving closer to an Ableton like workflow with AUM. MultiTrack could fill the audio gap but for that we would need that the preset loading would behave properly regarding looping.

Lets say I have two scenes in LK and two corresponding AUM presets for MultiTrack that matches the LK scenes each with the same song but different loop region. One LK track contains PC messages that switch to the right MultiTrack preset. Host Sync is off and Remote is on. The presets are switched properly but the loop region is not respected and MultiTrack keeps on playing along with AUM‘s song position.

Maybe using presets is a bit overkill. If this is the case it would probably be better if the dev would add a snapshot feature for songs that would allow switching loop regions, mixer vales etc. and expose it as a parameter.

Good ideas. Please contact him, he seems to rarely frequent the forum.

  • I did a short demo what I try to do, the problems with it and how it could be improved.

@Gavinski : since he seems to read messages from you, could you forward Wim's note about needing to de-couple multitrack's and AUM's record enabling? It seems that people have trouble getting messages to him lately ... many have tried to contact him directly about MultiTrack from what I've read.

    OK sure

  • Can this only record one AUM track at a time?

Thanks for sharing your workflow idea.
I gave up on trying to work with Multitrack record. As much as I tried It wasn’t stable for me.
Hopefully it will in the near future. Or a very anticipated Drambo update with an audio clip launcher.

Yes. But if you put it on a track that has a bus as the input, then put bus sends on all the tracks that you want to record, you can easily send them one by one as needed.

Of course, if all you're trying to do is get stems, it's far easier just to use AUM's built-in recording. This is more useful for capturing clips, then arranging them on a timeline.

  • Multitrack doesn’t seem to have automation stuff what I want to be able to do is have control over volume over the track. I know it has fade in and out but want to be able to control volume swells in the middle of the audio too. So still looking for a DAW as suspect the only option is like you say record from AUM then drag into some DAW type app. And for the life of me I cannot decide on one! I just want a simple one that has automation, midi, auv3 support for effects

  • Yes I have that but using the presets means needing to apply them as it plays. I want to be able to set the automation over the piece /timeline and master so have the automation baked into the piece rather than need to hit presets

  • I just tried this app again in readiness of the new version that is better integrated with LK. I recorded a quick clip and played around with moving it and lengthening it etc. This feels very hit and miss. Is this still a problem with the app after all this time or am I doing it wrong?

You might want to contact the dev as he prepares the new version -- I have the impression that there are a small number of loose ends that never got followed up on.

Thanks, I’ve mailed him. I’ll let you know what I get back.

How do others find moving clips around and changing lengths? I find often just nothing happens. I’m testing on my iPhone btw.

  • I just did a quick test on the new “experimental” loop point snapshots feature. Like it!!. This should be really handy with LK to work out song structures and clips in AUM. Coupled with multi out you could have independent tracks in aum (bass, guitars, vocals...) and arrange them into song parts or clips inside Multitrack.
Here’s a quick and basic video of this feature, it shows both modes: loop queue (C3 octave trigger) where loops wait for the previos to finish and immediate trigger (C4 octave).
This is a huge feature. I hope once it’s not “experimental “ it gets a well deserved dedicated button, right now it’s sort of hidden under “Remote” long press (unintuitive).
Good job on this one!. Need to stress test it and see how it behaves in a real scenario, but for sure Paul is a machine.

  • Did the issue ever get resolved that required AUM to be in record mode for some MultiTrack recorder recording features to work?

  • Well that clears up why I couldn’t move and lengthen clips. Needed to hold down for longer

It’s still a lot of setting up and jumping through hoops to do something simple but at least it’s a bonus.

Yeah true. If it works it’ll hopefully tide us over until loopy pro anyway.

What would be needed for it not to seem like jumping through hoops?

I guess a audio version of Loopbud. That seems simple enough for my pay grade !

Turn off "Host Sync". Set the tempo manually to the same as the host. Turn on "Remote" if you want it to start and stop with the host transport.
