And the one after that that's part of the excitement for me.
The red on the left side buttons when pressing function on a gadget's page is crazy distracting. They are using it in a few other places, and it just doesn't belong.
Blood red = bloody distracting.
@ChrisG
Ipad 3 truly was a lemon. Ipad air however upped the processor and downed the size. To be honest I find it very easy to stay on the latest hardware as iPads retain value pretty well.
I like that they now allow access to Gadgetcloud from your browser:
https://www.korg.com/gadgetcloud
nice for inspiration when away from your iPad
I guess I'm on a 2 year cycle now, as it takes apple that long to bring enough change to the device to capture my interest.
I think I have the best place in the cycle to be, with the weak 3 before and the RAM limited 5 after. I love the performance balance on the 4, so I can wait patiently for Air 2.
It's funny that the whole slow/odd gadget changing thing came down to the animation system. They apparently wanted it to really feel like you were setting a gadget down on the table in front of you with lifelike accuracy. Definitely a good change.

Are you sure? In Cubasis whatever midi channel I choose as the output channel, Cubasis just plays the 'active' instrument in Korg. I really want a midi channel that doesn't play the Gadget instrument - but it seems to respond to everything on every channel which is annoying. Anyone found a way round this?
And I presume still no midi cc's? (Haven't had a chance to fully test yet).

Yea ok, more like a fruit sallad drenched with lemon.
Anybody figured out what they mean by "Arrange tracks"?
I would assume it means you can drag tracks left/right to change the ordering of the channels on the mixer (i.e. moving all drums next to each other) but I can't figure out how :-(
@Peter321 said:
Yes this. Press "function" while in mixer view, and you'll get arrows to move around tracks/channels.
Just hit the function button, and then hit the arrows at the very bottom under the gadget.
Thanks, just figured it out when I saw your post :-)
Pretty cool improvements for their first update
Your right Matt.it's only the 'active' gadget that responds...so get your midi how you want it>record it to audio>select new 'midi'
gadget and repeat...workable but not ideal.
Yep. The thing is I want to play rhythms and arps etc. via StepPolyArp into Gadget, without the original notes i'm sending to StepPolyArp triggering Gadget.
So I want:
External keyboard > StepPolyArp > Gadget
but what happens is:
External keyboard > Gadget
External keyboard > StepPolyArp > Gadget
Haven't found a way round this yet. Only workaround I found is turning velocity right down on keyboard so you can't actually hear the direct keyboard notes. The deleting them in the Gadget piano roll afterwards. Not ideal.
One step forward....
Hey,tff acp:)
Actually it looks like what they have done in this update with virtual midi solves my problem. Seems Gadget now only listens on it's own virtual midi port (or something?) so I can send Midi to an app like StepPoly arp without Gadget picking it up - then send StepPolyArps's midi on to Gadget.
Just tried:
Alchemy keyboard > Steppolyarp > Gadget
and it works (i.e. Gadget only gets what StepPolyArp sends to it - not what is sent out of Alchemy). So i'm assuming I'll be able to do the same with a hardware keyboard.
Good...
Would love some midi cc's in Gadget though!
Still no midi pitch bend, WTF Korg?
I was hoping that Gadget might expose it's different tracks as different inputs to audiobus - like Loopy does. But it looks like it's just a single Gadget input. Oh well. Maybe one day...
I agree @sonosaurus No midi pitchbend is just silly.
Gadget with audiobus...why not?
But i prefer an update with Midi CC, MIDI export...more gadgets and FX
Audiobus is the logical priority in this forum.

Yes, I agree with you but without too much effort this forum became ios music making forum/general music discussion place. I think it is serving ios community (users as well as developers) very well. Users because it provides advice, developers because it illuminates them on how ios music is evolving and how they can improve their product. I have bought masses more of apps (some more, some less useful) since joining this forum. I also engaged in many interesting discussions from connectivity in AB through getting over excited about gadget (then not yet AB compatible) to philosophical questions about what it means to be a musician in this day and age. This forum truly belongs to the users and that what a proper forum should be. I wouldn't be overly concerned about no audiobus related discourse. Peace
Ok, ok. I finally bought it.
@supadom Point well taken. However, no AB, no AB forum. Audiobus in my opinion was the groundbreaker of any serious IOS music making. Before AB, music apps were on a island, with no bridge. AB bridged the gap. So IMO, AB should never be a afterthought on this forum. Also, the amount of sales that are generated through this forum, should make AB a priority to Devs.

Not according to the 800+ comments on the gadget thread pre AB support.
I agree 100% that AB has changed ios music making for the best. This forum is another example of that.
I came to this forum long after I had audiobus because a friend told me that "it is the best ios music forum".
I agree with him .
This place has clearly evolved past a discussion forum for only audiobus.
It funny but audiobus is an app to create a ecosystem for communication on the iPad, and their forum has done the same kind of thing for the ios music community..
It was understood that Gadget would get AB support from the beginning. So, it shows Korg understood the significance of AB support also.

Any advertising for audiobus is good advertising. Even people talking about apps that will never support AB is good for AB because it raises awareness of IOS music as a whole. The analogy 'no AB no forum' is plain silly and I don't even want to elaborate. If tomorrow an app comes out that connects all apps seamlessly via midi and audio inc midi sync majority of audiobus users will move over. Not because they hate audiobus but because it makes their creative life easier. AB is not a religion and I'm sure AB developers understand that. Hype elevates, that's true but in this fast moving electronic life things change. Where was ios music 6 years ago, where was audiobus 3 years ago, how will we be making music in 5 years? Nobody knows. So let's chill it and keep doing what we're doing I'm sure @Sebastian and @Michael can handle some non AB talk. In fact they're probably watching from above and scratch their heads about how hair-splitting these debates can get. Anyway the man @goldfish was only expressing his opinion. Over and out.
...and a good opinion it was...
Seems like both "sides" of this are making good points. If the update had been released without AudioBus, it would have been a sad day, indeed. But, there's some important midi stuff that is sorely missed in this update. Hopefully coming soon! Maybe enough said...
I don't see the reason to get into to an extended head-butting match over the whole thing.
