If trump goes through with it and is successful, if it takes place in the u.s and trump can rely on judges put in position by the same people who bought him to power, it could open up counter claims against the u.s and other reckless countries like the u.k. Countries that don’t have centrally organised counter measures in place but still insist on lifting lockdowns, will keep reintroducing covid-19 to other nations.
Also the chinese response was slow, reckless at first, but once the government over there realised the scale and danger of the problem, they did act decisively, plus they were the first known country to be hit. Contrast that with the behaviour of the trump admin, who had a heads up, not just externally either but internally too, all the evidence of trump thinking it’s a hoax against him, not prioritising hard hit places like new york, as he didn’t like the way he was spoken too, they could be nicer etc.
Case can easily be made, a strong reality based argument at that, that trump didn’t only not take this seriously, endangered lives due to ego and ignorance, but he also has a long track record of blaming others for his own personal failings. And since he loves media attention and has a big pie hole, mountains of evidence can easily be produced. Seems like a case of short term thinking and gain, shifting blame and pandering to the worst instincts of the electorate could easily blow up in his face and forcefully remove his hairpiece for all to see.
You rightly described everything about the current situation in both countries.
Yeah, if that happens, then this will be a dangerous precedent from the time of waved tubes at the UN.
Great analogy. Great film to show that we have faced these questions before (at least in our fictional world). Currently airing on Turner Classic Movies btw.
I also recommend watching the classic Tim Carrey film “The Worlds Greatest Sinner “ from 1959-60. Great score by a 19 year old Frank Zappa (great surf tunes and quirky orchestral music). But the movie is a spot on description of our times and parallels A Face In The Crowd.

As a long time Zappa fan I'm surprised I didn't know about this early work. I found a soundtrack of the movie on YouTube and now I'm satisfied. Definitely show Zappa's promise with the mix of ersatz 50's
so cal rock and complex instrumental music mixed with chaos.
Thanks.
This thread should be renamed, "Americans, lets all winge about Trump here!" I'm so sick of US politics, the woke ideolgy that came out of the US; neo-Communists Californians waving Soviet flags, convinced that a socialist revolution in the US would somehow work when it never has anywhere else - this presumption in itself stinks of the myth of American exceptionalism. Most of the rest of the world doesn't give a fxxx about your internal political conflict.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=x8jca8ZATfA
Are you being sarcastic?
"Neo-communist Californians" bent on exporting socialism? Do you think that there is some large-scale socialist movement in California?
What is the "woke ideology" that the U.S. has exported?
Do tell! Educate us.
I don't think Mister Strummer would agree with you my fine Little Englander....![:) :)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/smile.png)
Nice vent. Get that shit out!
Have you ever tried the California Whines? Every silicon valley millionaire retires to a vineyard.
We have good microbreweries too. All accept cash so no communal wineries.
What does the Soviet Flag look like?
Oh yeah. Waving that in California could get you fucked up. We have Trump supporters too. They like the color red but that Muslim sword is a problem.
"Most of the rest of the world doesn't give a fxxx about your internal political conflict."
You couldn't be more wrong about that:
But vents do not need to be fact checked. Keep 'em coming if the worst thing in your world right now is this thread.
Dunno if Strummer would agree or not, don't care, it's a great tune. "Englander" is German. Englishman would be correct if you presume that is my homeland. Peace

See Borax... 20 Mules my Ass.
You couldn't be more wrong about that:
Given its size and the strength of its ties with the global economy, shocks to the US economy are transmitted globally through many channels. On the one hand, an acceleration in US growth could be expected to have positive effects for the rest of the world, if not counterbalanced by increased trade barriers or an unexpected tightening of global financing conditions. On the other hand, persistent policy uncertainty could hamper growth throughout the global economy, and could have particularly adverse effects on investment growth in emerging market and developing economies, which have already showed weakness in recent years (World Bank 2017).
But vents do not need to be fact checked. Keep 'em coming if the worst thing in your world right now is this thread.
I never said the duped college kids waving the hammer and sickle were attempting to export revolution.
US corporations, media (including Hollywood), think tanks, exported Identity politics.
What's the trick to separate identity from politics? Trump plays identity like a harp. It's really his
talent. Facts don't matter but identity does. Most people that see Trump clearly and defend him do so because they like his victories over people they hate.
And we seek a champion to channel out hatred of him and have settled on Biden... we'll use similar filters to defend him to achieve our goals.
It is a war of identities. Is there a country that doesn't have similar political dynamics? Singapore maybe?
It was a vent! Admittedly, I never expected someone here quoting the World Bank as a "fact check" retort. ;-D
@McD
Apparently not at Berkeley Uni where the kids of a lot of "elite" folk supposedly get educated.
I thought I was pretty well versed in all things Zappa, but this is news to me. Must investigate.
OK... UC students. They end up with jobs mostly and it's a phase of "killing your parents" we all go through. They also do significant physics research and feed students to the weapons labs in Livermore and Sandia so on balance Berkeley is a push in my mind. Not much of a football school. Now my kid went to UC Santa Cruz and really came out with a unique view of the world. She works for a Pot Logistics Company.

so how does Trump waving Putins underwear as his own personal flag, constantly lying to the American people and anyone else who is in ear shot, and cozying up to tyrants and dictators all over the world a better alternative?
sorry but that's not how credibility actually works,
btw 'woke-ideology'... is that what the kids are calling non-racism these days?
"Identity politics" is a phrase people use to shame people who believe that discrimination is bad. Using "woke" as a perjorative is essentially sending the same message. Because one can't really defend ongoing discrimination and structural racism, one has to resort to finding ways of attacking people so that people will lose sight that the issue is discrimination.
you can't even take Trump minions seriously these days, 1+1 does not = 2 to them.
there will be no honest brokerage, no honest thought, no honest conversation... why would they when the head of their religion couldn't tell the truth to save his own life.
Think you're doing a good job of attacking ideas and not personalities. But singling out
one "vent" might escalate and melt the whole thread down.
Woke.
SJW.
These are code words (from a long list) for one mindset that makes debate a game of minesweeper.
Racist.
Moron.
Might be on both lists. "Black Lives Matter" as a Racist attack on victimized Whites for example. Morons.
They long pretending to be minorities being discriminated until they actually are in about 10 years. They are always preparing for the future they don't want. Genius.
I can handle the false equivalencies and the racism, what gets my pantaloons in a bunch is the dishonesty, how will we ever get to an actual conversation if they won't be honest about the ideals or lack there of in the leader they serve... it's a sad day in the world when you can talk to a racist skinhead or klansmen and have a less frustrating conversation than the mainstream public.
Not sure what you are saying McD. "Black Lives Matter" is about racial justice. It isn't an attack on anyone except for people that find structural racism acceptable.
obviously talking about Rupert Murdoch lol
of course in reality there is no such thing as identity politics, it's an oxymoron like reverse racism.. American is just trying to return to the roots it never left, or if the president has his way he wants to at least make it back to the Golden Era of the 50's I know I know not so golden for most people right, but then that's the point isn't it
You know, my family did a decent job of anticipating the negative impacts of COVID-19 on the food supply chain as we stocked up, began gardens and identified wild local edibles, etc...but I didn't fully anticipate the necessity and scale of "depopulating" within the meat industry and that is breaking my heart right now.![:disappointed: :disappointed:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/disappointed.png)
the Pres has got you covered
I hate to correct a fellow Englishman etc, but The Little Englander notion was a meme long before memes were a notion.
More general info here.
Stay Vigilant
Today Trumpler.. or is it Stalump?... proclaimed meat cutters in Iowa must go to work. The Iowa gov says if you Latinos (mostly Hispanic, I read) do not show and put your life on the line so Mussolump can have his hamberder... errr... hamberger... err... Drumpflump ... no unemployment for you. Good going KimJonRump.
And you taught Pence the Penis not to wear a mask to the Mayo where everyone, including their gov wears a mask.
He is a good little Rumpenmucker. Yah! And, oh, yes... he didn’t wear one because “I’ve been tested many times. I wanted to look the good docs in the eye”. I guess he thinks you wear the mask like a blindfold. Yah! Dat’s wort der noble prize in itzelf!
Did I adhere to the federal rant guidelines @McD?
The Trumpberder cannot even tell the airlines everybotten got to vere der mask in der Kompartment . Yah! It's up to the flyboys. Well, of course they won’t. Ask PenisPence. Dey von’t be able to see out der vindow. Yah!
