Aparillo was invaluable to me for QUICKLY scoring podcasts on Shakespeare's tragedies: well worth the regular IAP price (US$18). Not a bread-and-butter synth, and not what I'd use for the comedies -- but if you need something dramatic or looming, Aparillo's presets will get you there fast.

Some of the most unique sounds I’ve ever heard from an iOS synth, and I have almost all of them haha. The only thing that bugs me about SugarBytes apps is the resolution of them! It’s like looking at a 2009 iPad

Anyone have any theories about the likelihood of Ravenscroft going on sale, going on past experience?

Historically they run a 50% off sale from Nov. to Dec., but not this year (or, at least, not yet).

    Yea same here.

    Anybody try the Bass Leveler?

    I like it a lot.

On 303s, it automatically boosts the bass when you turn up the resonance.

    Great for vocals.

Whatever you put through it comes out with bass.

If there’s too much bass, it turns it down.

    Great tool for audio production.

  • @Jolico I know I know. Lol. But you have to draw the line somewhere. Especially when you are not as financially well off as some might be. These are just general guidelines I use to help me make a decision. I’ll admit... some apps I just buy, and some go through various levels of evaluation. Especially this time of year when I want to gobble up everything on sale. Lol.

  • SquareSynth 2 is on sale down to $6.99 from $9.99

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/squaresynth-2/id1439660868

    Also by same developer

Square Acid is only $4.99 down from $6.99 I think....

LoopBuilder is only $5.99 down from $9.99

  • For some reason LoopBuilder shows $9.99 on its own App Store page, but if you go to another app by same developer and scroll Down to their other apps, it has the $5.99 price

  • @Poppadocrock excellent points. It's incredibly easy to buy the price not the product (especially if it "completes a set" by a particularly developer - I'm terrible for this!)

Sounds interesting. Could be really useful. How does it work? Is it doing some sort of dynamic eq thing? Sorry for novice question.

What’s the difference with Maze Rider?. They both seem to even volumes. Like waves vocal rider, right?.
Is bass leveler doing something else to the low end?. Like additional multiband compression on bass to keep it at check?. Do you need both?. Gas, gas, gas.

Yes, it seems that it works primarily on the lower bands, but not sure if it is just compression or something else going on.

Not sure if its already been mentioned or not (this thread is out of control!) but this dude’s apps appear to be on sale - I think.... He doesn’t mention anything about a sale in the description that I noticed anyway but I’m nearly positive if these would have been so cheap in the past, I would have bought them a long time ago at $1.99 a piece. So I’m pretty sure on sale but if not, they’re still super cheap!

I just picked up Delayrium, Dystopia and Esoteric Synth (already had the mono oscillator whatever that’s called). I’ve only scratched the surface on these so I’m sure others will chime in but from what I can tell, Delayrium is definitely worth the price as is Esoteric Synth. The jury is still out on Dystopia - the first couple presets sounded really rough to me but the last couple sounded better, so I’m not sure what’s up there. Dystopia comes with several different separate AUs which I didn’t realize. One of them seems similar to a ring mod from what I can tell and then there’ s a Gauss effect among others.

Delayrium seems solid for sure and i think Esoteric Synth will be fun to play with.

Anyway, these seem like a steal to me!

Yes it has gotten a little wild, but that’s part of the fun. Someone created a shared google doc, several pages back in this thread, that simply lists all the app sales.

  • Worth noting if you have some but not all of the Eventide apps - you may want to click around their bundles to check the new price to round out your collection. It seems they have set up the math to try to account for what you have already spent while also possibly factoring in the bundle discount + sale price (I think?)

All I know is that I already had all the Eventide apps except TriceraChorus. I was able to get TriceraChorus for free just now by finding the bundle that contains the app on the app store (in this case is was Pro Effects Bundle #2).

I’ve seen devs try to account for what you’ve already purchased in the past (sometimes very inaccurately to where it’s more expensive to finish with the bundle than just buying the app and other times where the math is wrong in our favor and it comes out cheaper than it should). I’ve never had a scenario where I could just grab a free app before though I don’t think.

  • Come on Icegear/Iceworks let's have some black Friday bundles!
I figure that if I've got 5 or their 8 apps there should be some freebies or uber bargains... Because, obviously, I need more synths to add to the 50+ I've already got...

  • I got 4 Eventide apps for free. Great bundle math!

Hell yeah. Hate to say it but sounds like a loophole to be easily exploited. Just sayin...

  • @Poppadocrock said:

Not trying to talk you out of it, but these are some of the things I try to keep in mind before I drown myself in apps. It doesn’t have to be a DAW, any Synth, Drum Machine, FX, etc...can apply. After many years of app gluttony, I TRY to ask myself these things. (I said I try, cue uncontrollable sobbing, pull yourself together man, lol) Ok, I admit I got a bit carried away putting this together, but Maybe it will help someone. In no specific order.

Despite I don’t have such checklist in my mind, but it’s a nice and funny excercise to answer these questions :)

    AUv3? Midi in/out? General Connectivity?

AUv3 is essential. I don’t buy anything that not supports it.

What’s your main workflow? Does it fit in?

    Don’t know, but hope :)

Do you really need another DAW/Synth/Drum Machine etc ? If so Why?

    Definitely not :) , but still... :)

How much will you really use it? Does it fill a need?

Considering how many apps I have with the same or similar feature, there’s a good chance to not use it frequently. Same goes for the does it fill a need question :)

Is there any features or abilities that this DAW/Synth/etc will give you, that you don’t already have?

    Probably not :)

What’s unique about it, does it have something you can’t get from other apps?

    Another shimmer effect?

Have you done your research? YouTube, Reviews, etc... if so what’s the verdict?

This is what I definitely do.

Based of some research, What’s your instinct tell you? Maybe it just sounds great, or it’s a known great developer.

Intsticts really worth listening to, but I still used to be tempted sometimes...

Size - both Storage & DSP/CPU? This is also relative to your iPad model, storage available. Will I be loading large samples/SF2/etc into the app making it much larger? SSD, other storage options?

I’m short on storage space, so huge apps like neo soul keys 2 are no go.

Does developer have a good track record, with other music apps, whether iOS/Mac/PC?

In case of music apps I think it’s quite easy to find out whether an app is a crap or not. So I don’t check dev’s track record.

Does developer update the app, on at least a somewhat regular basis? Doesn’t have to be frequently, but some version update history is always a welcome sight. It tells me the app will most likely continue to be improved/updated and isn’t going away anytime soon.

This one I used to check. Rare updates is not a dealbreaker, however if I an app hasn’t been updated for 4-5 years I’m not going to buy that.

Is developer responsive to issues, bugs, features? Easy to contact?

This one I don’t check, not a deal breaker, yet it’s a big plus if he’s responsive

Is there an LE or Lite version I can try for free? Maybe a 1 month subscription, or a cheaper priced version? preferably That can be upgraded to full version in case I want to go there.

I don’t know why but as I see this is absoultely not common. I don’t know why the devs not doing it.

Musically - does it fall into the music you are making or want to make? This one is tricky because it’s important to think outside the box, use different tools in different ways, and try new things when being creative.

Oh yes, this one I can easily decide

Music Process - Will it help you learn, or be more creative/better/faster in any of the main music making steps creating/midi/audio/mixing/mastering/etc?

Yes, exactly this is what I hope/expect from any new app. It’s ironic that I can’t answer this question before I buy and try...

Price history? If I miss this sale, and realize it was a mistake later on, approximately how long is the wait until I might get this deal again? see appsliced.com for sale history to gauge when another sale might come around.

Yes, I check it and usually wait for the sale, except it’s a new app or simply iI can not wait for the sale :) However I think I have an idea about most of the older apps, so probably I already made my decision and bought or skipped them

Time/ Learning Curve - how hard, or how long will it take to understand and use the app. Can I enjoy right out of the box, or Can I/Will I invest the time into something deeper and more complex? Some of the best apps are both easy to use but also deep.

I usually face my challenges after I bought the app :)

Patches/Presets- does it have a good selection? are there free/paid ones online? What type of Files can I import? ie. SF2, exs24, syx, etc.

I’m not that type of guy who creates sound presets from scratch by tweaking oscillators and filters, so good presets off the shelf are very important

Randomizers - I love me a good Random Patch/Preset Creator, or even a Random sequencer?

Big fat no go for the random sequencer. It’s cheating :)

IAP’s - How many and for what? Are they for Functionality or more Presets?

    Obviously... Price? Affordability? Value?

For those of you who speaks French (there is no video in French for iOS music producers), I made a presentation of this insanely cool App/Suite, Rozeta. Really good value for the money as you may already know.

I will generate a random number and give the code to the winner comment. Like and comment, that's it.

@GLacey love it. Some good stuff in there. You’re right about the update thing. If it’s been 4-5 years I’m thinking potential abandonware.

You have a similar vid in English? I’ve never managed to get any use out of those apps. I’ve loaded them up a few times but never figured them out (admittedly, I bought them before I was ready for them so I might have better luck now!)

  • The app is actually many individual AUv3, Midi only apps. A few generate midi, a few sequencers, some filter midi, 1 arpeggiates midi, or CC’s with an LFO. They are only used inside of a host (AUM,AB3,etc.) or a DAW (Cubasis 2 & 3, BM3,etc...) Start with a generative one like, particles. Put particles in a midi slot, in a host, then connect a synth, pick scale, then mess with the sliders and knobs on particles until you like something. Or XoX and Rhythm they are simple midi sequencers to send midi notes to drum apps, or synth apps. They have random buttons so you can get some good beats/notes quickly and easily. Just make sure it is send midion the right notes if triggering drums. Do this by pressing button on left side, and selecting drum app you are sending midi to. Hope that helps.

I’m seeing higher prices for the effects 1 & 2 bundles today - I wonder if there was a mistake in pricing? My completion prices now exceed the total for the apps I don’t have. But having snagged Spring and MangledVerb for £6 yesterday I’m not going to moan...

  • Lol. It’s been awhile but when I bought Rozeta I wasn’t ready for it either, but it’s relatively easy to learn. Definitely watch a YouTube video or 2 and start with the Bassline, Particles, or Collider, to generate midi notes. In AUM Connect to synth. In AB3, just put Rozeta bassline in midi in, and synth or drum app in midi out

  • No link with the music (eeehh, yes, when you think about it), but I bought this app and it's really good.

I don’t need another DAW. But... I have Zenbeats, Cubasis and BM3... none of them are good at audio editing. I know Auria is supposed to be better. But can someone give me examples and details on what it can do?.
Things that come to my mind:

    • cross fades
    • Elastic audio/transient detector (timing corrections)
    • Bounce in place (not freeze, but commit effects)
    • Merge audio clips
    • Sidechaining
    • Group buses
    • Automation?
    • Also, what’s the difference between pro and le versions?.
Would you very wise people recommend it?.

This Black Friday days I feel like one of those “conspiracy end of the world” people that stock tons of food in the basement. Except with iOS apps.

Well, it does all of the things you listed. I mixed more than one album project or live recording on autos, and at the time it was a great choice for me. I now am working on the computer for that kind of thing so I really don’t use any DAW on iOS anymore. But Auria does what it does very well and if a situation dictated that I had to track and mix on auria I definitely could do it.

Here’s a quick clip I posted a few years ago of auria recording from a Behringer x32 at a gig (it sees an x32 as 24 in/out with usb into cck). I don’t do that as a matter of course because I need my iPad for other things during the gig, so I just track either to logic or if I’m using my x32, the the xlive SD recorder.
