Cool. By the way... I was able to make presets that I was really happy with using just the oscillators and no samples at all. I wasn't the slightest bit lost in the app either, and I still haven't looked at any tutorials or instructions at all. It seems to be all very intuitive to me so far.
Thanks very much for sample import, this thing is seriously powerful!
Without reading every comment, is this the same concept as Quanta? Or is it closer to say a more advanced form of Tardigrain?
The Granular + analogue dual oscillator idea + mod matrix v similar to Quanta, but FRMS also has FM and delay/reverb that Quanta lacks, but it is pretty similar to Quanta in many respects. FRMS also has multiple layers whereas Quanta jump has one Granular and one VA but it also has a noise oscillator.
The 4 layers remind me of Izotope Iris 2, fm algorithm switching not too dissimilar to Operator and sample engine isn’t a million miles away from Spacecraft Granular.
The UI is very clear and navigating is a breeze, it’s well worth grabbing if you’re into designing sound. The amount of per layer modulation and easy to use matrix are what sets it apart for me.
@sinosoidal : maybe this has been addressed, and I have left feedback via the website, but can anyone explain why I have to hand over my email and set up an account I don’t want just to access the functionality of an app I had already paid for? I am a fan of DRC, bought all the IAP for that, but don’t like the feeling of being strong armed into creating an account, and handing over my data, dob etc, just to access this thing. Needless to say, the data I handed over is garbage, but the whole thing leaves a sour taste with me over a synth I was looking forward to.
Creating an account is completely optional. You just need an account if you wish to use our cloud sync functionality.
@sinusoidal: thank you for getting back to me so promptly, and for explaining that. Maybe it is a communication issue, then. But the website says: “ PROFILE - To use FRMS in the full feature mode, is it necessary to have an Imaginando account.” Doesn’t say anything about just accessing Cloud saves there.
As I had loaded up a succession of Factory presets in the standalone, found that all had the same delay effect and overall sound, and finding no way to turn these off, I assumed that this was something which could only be resolved by registering, which I did, reluctantly, and with garbage data.
I am quite prepared to accept that my issue with the delay and sound is operator error, as others are clearly using the app without difficulty, so I’ll go back and see where I’m going wrong, but you might want to make the purpose of setting up the account a little more explicit? At present, it reads only like a way to rook data out of people. As I say, I am a fan of your previous work, and I want to like this too.
I share your concerns. This and the fact that (at least in DRC) the Facebook SDK is used for analytics
https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/34141/imaginandos-summer-madness-deal-of-the-day
Effects can’t currently be switched off. If I remember correctly @sinosoidal has indicated that he’ll look into adding the functionality as this would aid in reducing the CPU hit.
Sorry, the settings profile entry description was not accurate. We have already fixed it:
https://www.imaginando.pt/products/frms/help/settings
This is completely non sense. Synth parameters are all available from the synth panel.
Not all presets have delay or reverb. The amount of delay and reverb is controlled on each layer by the DELAY and REVERB knobs. If you turn these knobs to zero on all layers, there will no reverb or delay on the patch.
FRMS doesn't use Facebook SDK for analytics and we will gradually remove it from all the apps on future updates.
Nice to hear, @sinosoidal
@sinusoidal: Well, I’m not an idiot, and I did zero everything, and nothing worked to stop the delay or alter the patch in any way, which is why I assumed, incorrectly, that I was locked into a single sound demo mode until I registered, hence my annoyance, an impression only emphasised by the misleading info on your website stating that full access to the app could only be obtained by registering... HOWEVER, subsequent to your first response to me above, I deleted the app entirely, rebooted my iPad, and reinstalled the app. It now functions as I expected. Just one of those things, I guess. Glad to see you have updated the explanation on the website.
Imported files must be under 2Mb.
Does anyone know what that amounts to in seconds?
At 16bit 44100hz it’s about 12 seconds according to a file I imported from AudioShare just now.
Thx! Tried a calculation but thats not my thing > @ajmiller said:
I'm late to the party, but I just wanted to say thanks for listening to your (perhaps annoying and paranoid, from your perspective) fans on this. I know that your use of the Facebook SDK was relatively harmless, but many of us think Facebook is an especially harmful company and don't want to give them even more data to throw their weight around, in whatever form.
Anyway, really appreciate it and just bought FRMS!
Version 1.0.2 is already on TestFlight and allows granulating live audio input on AUM when using the plugin as AUFX
@sinosoidal : as one of your most paranoid and annoying fans here (hat tip, @walkie ) that is very good news indeed. Looking forward to granularity!
And with that update, bought without a second thought
(I know the update isn't live yet, but I can't wait now)
Anyone beta testing this can explain this to me?:
Using the latest beta update we can now record into frms when it is loaded in an fx slot in AUM. Immediately after recording, the new layer I have made can be played back using the internal keyboard of FRMS, and I can also play it using, for example, velocity keyboard. But when I try to play it using AUM's keyboard, I get silence, doesn't work.
I can’t even get it to play with velocity keyboard, only the internal FRMS one in the latest beta... I’ve sent a report through TestFlight @Gavinski
I've tested this now and everything seems fine. Thats a very weird behaviour. Have you went to midi routing and patched the internal keyboard to FRMS?
Don't forget to patch the midi input to FRMS in midi routing. If you're using an instrument as a live input, and want to play FRMS as a FX, you must also link the midi input to FRMS to get sound.
You're probably already doing this, but since this is very strange i'm tacking all the possible causes.
If you both could send a video replicating these issues so we can test it in the right way, it would be awesome
I'm doing those, yes. Will send a video tmrw! Thnx
The reverb time on this thing is crazy long and lovely sounding.
@xglax How should I send the video? Neither test flight nor your website contact form allow video upload. Thnx. Maybe you can pm me an email address.
@xglax I’ve got a video recorded too
Latest beta sorted those keyboard issues out...
Ah good, it turns out that the AUM keyboard wasn't working because we had our frms in mpe mode. But of course, that shouldn't matter. Anyway, great they fixed it so quickly!
