Perhaps you can contact Jonatan to see if you can test it with the current AUM beta to see if you replicate this, I can replicate it on both my iPads. I can see that the midi channels in the FRMS settings on my Air 2 are locked “off” and can’t be changed.
edit: this is now fixed
@sinusoidal This is a fantastic synth. If a synth inspires me and makes me want to play with it and explore then it’s a winner. Many of the factory patches use multiple layers which can give it a heavy CPU hit but I love the atmospheric textures that it produces. More musical patches and maybe fewer sound fx patches would have been nice perhaps but its potential is obvious.
Yes, I didn’t like the first bunch of patches I listened to that much, but having gone through them all I can now say with confidence that this is likely to become one of my favourite iOS synths, perhaps THE favourite even. And you can very easily chain it along with another synth to make more musical patches, I’ve been really enjoying how it can combine with Strng for example. I can’t wait til it can be loaded as an AU fx and we can sample directly into it.
The FRMS version 1.0.1 is already in the store. Besides some particular bug fixes we made, now you can import your own samples and use the apple pencil . The enabled color was also changed to a more explicit color.
@xglax Sure you don’t mean “import”
Yeah, sorry =P, already corrected
And verified as working...very nice. Thank you!
Apple Pencil support?
Great news thanks. Despite the ‘I can’t see why anybody would want Apple Pencil in this app’ comment above - it really helps anyone with accessibility issues! Appreciate your work on this and I’ll be buying now!
Do you have to log in or give your email address as you have to in DRC?
In the iOS version only if you want to use Cloud Sync functionality. Other than that no. In the desktop version the system is the same as in DRC
Worth to mention that the “Cloud Sync” is the Imaginando Cloud - not iCloud! That is why you have to register for that.
Thanks once again
This could be one of my favorites granular tool. But its a bit unstable (especially on mac it crash while switching presets).
I hope the intro price will stay a bit since i need to extend the demo a bit until i hit buy and see it it gets more stable.
Is the iOS version good to go now?
We are not having crashes while navigating presets. Can you make us a video reproducing the problem so we can follow the exact same steps? Thank you!
If i find time today, yes. I also could send the Logic crash logs if that helps. I try to do it later today and send it to your support.
Otherwise i really love the sound and possibilities it offers. I f.e. like to create presets on my laptop and are able to play the same on my idevices which works great with DRC. So i would like to support iOS and mac version....if they are stable.
Besides que huge processing power that it is still requiring, it is pretty stable. From the feedback of two weeks in the market and a massive use. Serious problems reports are actually rare.
Please send us that you have time. It will definitely help us quickly resolving the issue you are experiencing. Best regards!
I've seen two crashes while navigating presets. I haven't seen a pattern yet but will keep documenting.
Is there a way to modulate the LFO /ENV amounts via the modwheel or aftertouch ?
The matrix only seems to allowed for direct application of the modwheels / AT value to maybe the filter cutoff or pitch - i didn‘t find a way to (for example) control vibrato depth (ie LFO -> pitch) with MOD or AT.
@xglax @sinosoidal Could you guys please let users drag the on-screen keyboard out to at least 24 keys? It would really help when you’re only using the iPad/touch screen to come up with melodies. Please?
For now it's not possible to do that. We know that in classic synthesisers, the mod wheel usually is linked with the vibrato depth. In this synthesiser we decided to have a totally open mod wheel so one can choose what modulation is best suited for the current patch, but in fact we didn't include that modulation targets. Maybe thats something to be considered
Ok, good to know. I wouldn’t need cloud sync and I’d rather not register to more services than needed.
What about DRC, will it also have pencil support? Or has it already?
Pencil support has been tackled this week. DRC must be update to support Apple Pencil. Not yet.
👍 nice. I guess you have a lot to do now with the release of frms
@sinosoidal FRMS is very stable on iOS ... sounding fantastic! FRMS has a really clear and dynamic sound.
@sinosoidal played around with FRMS last night and made a few patches I liked. Is there a way to export/share presets with other users yet?
So good! 👍🎛🎧🌈🚀 Thank you!! 🐉🎆👌
That's a long time request. Not yet!
Its not only about vibrato depths, thats just an example for a whole concept:
Many synth allow to scale their existing modulation routing by aftertouch or modwheel or a CC, often called indirect modulation. So bringing in AT on a key or turning the modwheel slowly adds an lfo to the filter, or to any other of the possible modulations (like start the movement of the granular offset /llength for soft slow modulation via lfo to a faster deeper modulation when the AT is pressed more.
With the current concept one only can do ‚fixed‘ modulations, the LFO / ENV either never or always modulates a destination.
.
When modwheel / AT / CC is able to scale such settings, a sound is a lot more playable and vivid - even more if MPE with different modulation dimensions per key comes into play.
For the synth with ‚indirection‘ the modwheel / AT / CC and Velocity often just acts as control sources. In addition to LFOs/ENV/Noise there is a constant value that can be scaled by these control sources - for the cases where one want to apply the raw control source.
.
I know thats a different control concept, but i think its a more flexible that what you opted for with your matrix. Maybe add a popup button with none/mod/kbd/vel/aft beside the value slider on the right to add this kind of control indirection to all matrix entries
.
English is not my mother tongue, I hope that my comment is not perceived as nagging. I really enjoy playing with FRMS, many of the presets sound really inspiring and are fun to play
Not important but i really would love to have different colors like with DRC. > @sinosoidal said:
Wait, no preset sharing (i see it like DRC also). This is indeed a must. Please!
