  • UPDATE regarding icloud backup. I just tried this on my iphone:

Enabled iCloud backup and tapped "backup now" and waited for it to finish.

Noted down the "size of next copy", under Settings>iCloud>Storage>Handle Storage>This iPhone, which said 182 MB.

I then imported a 50 MB soundfile into AudioShare, keeping it outside the iTunes File Sharing folder.

Went back to the backup screen mentioned above, waited for the "size of next copy" to update, and now it had grown by 50 MB!

So, as far as I can understand, this is proof of the iCloud backup including all files in AudioShare.

PS. Also, I tried moving the 50 MB file into the iTunes File Sharing folder, and the "size of next copy" stayed as before - indicating that the backup does not duplicate files in this folder.. But I'm not sure of this.

Any idea how to delete the invisible backup?

    Great update!
But.. Can anybody trim a file and then successfully trim another one? I constantly fail. After saving the trimmed file the app kind of freezes - it is not possible to enter the edit window anymore, each file in the current folder is still audible though. If I want to change the folder, I fail again as it seems that the title bar just "overlaps" the folder names and that's it. Does anybody face a same situation? (using iOS 7.2.1/iPhone 5)

That sounds like a bug. I've only tested iOS 7 on an iPad, since my phone is on iOS 8, so it could be an iOS7-on-iPhone bug. Would you mind mailing me a screenshot?

Hello Jonatan, I absolutely don't mind, it is even an honor to "assist" you :)
I've mailed two screenshots to the address mentioned in the app.
Thank you very much! You're indeed the best dev one can imagine :)

  • Thanks @aBGN! :)

@DaveMagoo: Unfortunately I have no idea. I can't find any way to actually see the contents of an iCloud backup. The real solution would be if app groups was included in the list of apps to backup or not, in the Settings app. Maybe file a bug report to Apple about it?

Thanks for looking into it, I imagine it may work along the same lines as how Korg Module works with Gadget....once both apps are deleted the sample sets are deleted. Maybe when Audioshare is deleted then the backup will get deleted along with it.

I will try the apple route also....

Is there a way to get the Audioshare Document Picker to audition files before transferring, the way I can with Dropbox?

This would be great for the workflow....not clear on what the doc pickers primary intended use is?

  • So,with th new update i'm not able to access my files with iFunbox anymore? Is that correct?

  • No problem here transfering files/folders via iFunBox from Pc. iPad4 iOS 7.1.2

  • It should only affect Audioshare under iOS8 because of the support for document picker etc.but thanks anyway.

  • I haven't tried it, but files that are in the iTunes file sharing folder should be accessible via iFunBox too in iOS 8.

  • I couldn't figure out how to edit a wav file I Auria. What took me over an hour to figure out in Auria, I did it in less than 5 minutes on Audioshare!
Thanks, I really love this app!

With the last update recording stops after about 2 mins. The recorder screen closes without showing a new recording in the list. After restarting the app I get an error message about the recovered recording.

This happens also with only AudioShare open.

I reinstalled AudioShare and reset my iPad. Problem remains.

    iPad 2, iOS 7.1.2, 800MB free space

My other recording apps don't show this behavior.

Anyone know how to solve this?

  • I haven't seen this problem here. Recorded something (12 mins) this morning via AB. (Air, 8 etc)

    @JohnnyGoodyear Thanks.

Other iOS 7.1.2 users having this problem?

IME it's the fastest way to sample, access, manage and edit audio on ios. :)

I have just recorded something in AudioShare via IAA for nearly 6 minutes, no problems (7.1.2/iPhone5)

    Smoking gun?

  • @DaveMagoo I've got 640MB free :) more than enough to perform simple tasks

  • How much disk space does Audioshare & IOS need to operate ?

  • What's IME?

  • In My E-pinion?

  • @aBGN thanks, so it's not 7.1.2 related.

800MB free should be fine for a few minutes of recording. My other recording apps work fine.

I did another (hard)reset of the iPad and used 'Memory' app to refresh memory. No change. I'm out of ideas :(

No, the Document Picker of other apps (the one shown when choosing doc picker import or export in AudioShare) is part of the other app, like a plugin. So it's up to the other app to decide exactly what's shown there. However, I'd be surprised if it was possible to access the audio interface from an extension/plugin, probably not possible.

I haven't changed anything regarding the recording stuff, except adding support for 24 and 32 bit recording. Unfortunately I have no idea why this is happening. What's your recorder settings?

  • R_2R_2
    edited January 2015

@j_liljedahl my recorder settings are: WAVE, Stereo, 16bit, 44k, Normalize on (same problem with AIFF).

I discovered that when i record as M4A it takes longer before the recording quits (around 29 min). Resulting in a 'recovered' file of about 23MB. @aBGN Did you record as WAVE or M4A?

Did another test, this time WAVE 32bit. Already quits after 55 sec. File size 18MB.

So it's seems to be memory related. The higher the recording quality the faster the recording quits. The app freezes and after restarting it comes up with a 'recovered' file of around 20MB.

Still doesn't make sense since I got 850MB free, reinstalled the app and reset my iPad twice.

  • I don't know if AudioShare does realtime compression, but considering that normally when normalizing AudioShare creates a 'copy' thus if a long recording needs to be made especially in stereo it's ~10MB/minute uncompressed there needs to also be space for the normalized version so for the say 29 minutes it needs roughly 290MB and then another 290MB for the normalized and another to store the compressed version and iOS also needs some 'storage room' to operate...

I'd suggest to clean up some space and follow the rule of 10% free space minimum for optimal performance.

  • Check for ghost IAA nodes running in the background also..

    @Samu
It seems AudioShare does realtime compression. I checked my free memory when recording in M4A and it drops around 1MB per minute.

Deleted some stuff to free up memory. Now 1.3GB free, no difference.

The problem also occurs with auto-normalize off.

    @DaveMagoo
How do I check that? I did reset my iPad and only have AudioShare opened.

  • @R_2 previously I did 16bit wave. Now I could record 5.5 min with 32bit with no problem (530MB left now)

    E-xactly! :D

@Musikman4Christ in my experience which granted isn't a lot as i haven't tried all the apps. ;)

  • @aBGN thank you.

Removed AudioShare (and its iCloud file), reset my iPad again (1.4GB available memory), reinstalled AudioShare. No luck... Guess I'll record in M4A for now.
