This reminds me of some of Miles Davis' more experimental fusion stuff, it might be because of the horn that I feel that. I like the interplay between the brass and the guitar (I think it's a guitar), and the strange tonality of the piece overall, there's a lot of tension in those notes: the trumpet builds the tension and the guitar releases it, pretty cool effect.
This is very good - I especially like the bassline, which is very melodic and interesting - is that live bass playing? (it's probably the GB bass, but it's very well done). Some sections sound improvised, I really like the way the bass strays from the main theme for a bit before coming back to it. The percussion is also very varied and constantly evolving.
It's a very good instrumental, with a nice balance of repetition and variation, an interesting listen.
@richardyot Thanks! It is in fact the built in GB bass lol.. I originally had it running through Stark but the overall mix was giving me so many headaches I gutted it out.
The guitar parts are very good, and overall the track works well.
My only crit is that I think there are too many things layered on top of each other, but at the same time there isn't really any evolution over the length of the track, the arrangement is static. So IMO it would work much better if the instruments would come in and out over the course of the song, that way you wouldn't get all the different sounds competing for attention at the same time, and the arrangement would be much more interesting because it would change over time.
So for example you could start with the guitar, then the guitar could fade out and the synth parts could fade in - that way the listener can focus on each instrument without it being drowned out by the rest, and the track would evolve in a more interesting way.
There are some great musical elements in there, but the arrangement is burying them somewhat.
@Kitusai This is so very nice are the horns going in reverse at parts?! Or am I imagining that lol. The overall vibe is great especially when the bass comes in.
I like the sound design. Lots of sounds that I’d be happy to use myself :-) I especially like the slightly overdriven textures.
I can’t criticise the arrangement as it’s obviously an improv, but I heard some bits in there that would make a good basis for a new track or two.
I don’t have the self discipline to stop myself adding big drums to everything to make ambient myself so am not really qualified to judge the track in context in any case.
But yeah, nice sounds. :-)
Same lol...
Been a lurker for years...Covid curfew and brought me out, so to speak.
Managed to finish several tracks. All on Gadget.

Apologies for using Dropbox. I’m not on Soundcloud. Any criticism is very welcome.
This track reminds me of Japanese Fusion Jazz from the 80s. Really getting that vibe. Loved it.
I like the feel of your track. It had a Hammock’s Departure Songs kind of feel. Loved the ambiance. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks for the listen and the feedback! I'm a complete noob with this genre, but I do think it might be particularly suited to improv, because actually trying to make an arrangement on a grid in a DAW just doesn't feel right for an ambient track. It needs to flow freely I think, otherwise it doesn't feel right.
It's cool, quite anthemic sounding (it could do with vocals to really take off though 😉), very good arrangement that keeps the music interesting with lots of drops and changes. The bass in particular is very well done, and I also like the soaring synths.
The main thing of note for this track is that it was made in NS2 on my iPhone. It’s the first full length track I’ve completed entirely sequenced and arranged on iOS.
I First tried making the track on my iPad but totally failed. With multiple apps. My iPhone, despite the comparatively tiny screen was a much, much better experience.
Some of the arrangement made its way over from the iPad project and the only synth that I used that is iPad only was iSEM. This played the main melody so I used an exported audio loop, triggered from a Slate instance.
I doubled this up with a hardware Pro-1. Again I just used a sampled loop in Slate.
Drums are from the Ruismaker trilogy and my hardware DrumBrute Impact. Again via Slate.
It’s not mixed or mastered and the whole thing has been made in small chunks of time when I got a second to myself. All monitoring was via AirPods. It probably sounds bad on big monitors. I did roll off a bit of bass from many of the tracks to Try a and avoid inaudible on AirPods subs.
I’m slightly surprised just how powerful the little iPhone is. Let alone compared to my creaky old iPad Air 2 which is just not up to the job of a full track for me.
The iPhone 11 handled it with ease.
Nicely played and mixed. It has a 1970s film Soundtrack vibe that is very cool. And I usually hate horns. ;-)
Good job, lots of things I like in this track: the intro/main melody, the nasty bass that comes in at just after one minute, the driving groove, and the arrangement which flows really well.
The bass sounded good on my floorstanders, it could maybe go a little deeper in fact so maybe less rolloff on the bass synth.
I like the overall vibe, quite edgy sounding but with that nice melody to give it a little light among the shade.
All Gr-16...
Wouldn’t it be nice? It certain was very nice. I liked the groove of it and the movement and melodies were in anticipation of something .. something nice.
Thank you for sharing.
I’m in a PKD novel; something mind blowing is about to happen. This is just very awesome!
I felt I was in control but then I wasn’t. I liked this without the video - as in just listening. It was very trippy. But I do need a little break now; is how I feel.
More to come...
More feedback is welcome 👍 but if you mean more tracks then be sure to read the rules posted at the start of the thread.
I see...that sucks b/c the one I just finished is crackling with electricity and crushed bits and particles...where else can I post?
Cool. nicely mixed too. Has a bit of an Air type vibe to it which I like, even a hint of Röyksopp maybe?
It like the variation in the drums which keeps things interesting but isn’t overdone. Overall very cool. I like it. :-)
Thanks ! I am not fully happy with the mix, the overall volume. Fought with it for days I’m glad you enjoyed though!!
Resurfacing once again with my first completed track in 4 or 5 months (lots of ideas, none complete). This one features the OB-6 for everything except the drums and strings toward the end. It's my first track with this amazing synth, and that amazing synth is one reason I haven't finished anything: it blew up my former workflow and process, so I'm starting over from scratch. I also created all the patches from scratch, and play all of the patches by hand (ok, yes, I loop them). Finally, I tried to not over-process it with effects, going for a bit more of a lo-fi vibe. Just a bit.
Promise I’ll go back and listen to everyone else’s and give feedback. I’ve even busy making this and working on two other songs.
This one was made in NS2 using Obsidian and Slate. I mixed in AUM with ToneBoosters’ various apps.
@richardyot I like it. Very zen. There were several points though where I expected it to build into a trancey sort of vibe.
@Marcel A lot more “normal” than I often see on here. I dig it. There are a few artists I could hear singing on this.
@baudios Interesting. It’s right on that edge of too-abstract-for-me. But you seem to still have some structure which I don’t often see in abstract stuff like this.
@Kitusai I could see this as part of a movie score for an emotionally tense, protagonist-coming-to-terms-with-reality moment. Nice.
@iammane Excellent little adventure here. Definitely playing with the senses. One of my favorite tunes I’ve heard posted here.
@spiteface Well damn, this is pretty nice for someone who isn’t used to the tools they’re using. It did get a little repetitive. It felt like it wanted to build up into something and never did.
@klownshed Interesting. Looks like we both posted our first full NS2 songs this month and they’re both kind of this grungy grindy feel. I think your overall composition was better.
@vitocorleone123 Neat journey through the 80s here. Reminds me of a tune Universal had playing in the Stranger Things section of Halloween Horror Nights last year.
Sorry if I missed anyone.
Here's my response to the devastation Australia has suffered over the last 6 months. Arranged and mixed in GarageBand with the help of some external synths. Hopefully you'll spot the Australiana references in the sound design.
TAL-Uno-LX - Analogue strings
Micrologue - Analogue string
Sunrizer - Analogue strings, cymbals
iMini - Noise sweeps
Kawai K5000W - Drone, bells, synkeys, bleeps and bloops
I'm working my way through your tracks. Will comment soon!
@richardyot A welcomed foray - appreciate the screen share. Good work!
@Marcel Begging for a singer! Nice chops on the rhodes and good song structure.
@baudios Very creative! Sound design has me interested.
@Kitusai Nice vibe going on there. Lovely album artwork!
@iammane Superb! Can't say much more.
@spiteface So easy to compose in GarageBand. I've accumulated lots of apps but keep coming back to GB. Keep creating, you're doing great.
@klownshed Sounds great on monitors - you must know your AirPods well. Need to explore NS2 some more - sounds freaking awesome.
@vitocorleone123 Lovely sounding synth! So easy to compose with soft synths so I know what you mean - but the quality here is evident.
@DukeWonder Had me smiling with the first filter sweep. Kept me interested all the way through. There's something in this NS2.
Hope that's everyone. Peace.
Very good. I saw your work from the other side. Very interesting.
