  • @david_2017 There is a Timefreeze variant of the Stretch effect, but this is per step.

By the way, in evaluating Looperator, I suggest ditching the cheesy canned beats and instead use an interesting external audio source. Streemur is a fun source. I guess this is easier said than done, though, because you don't get the AUv3 until you pay?

  • Oh hey, I didn't even realize that the standalone had a loop player as I jumped straight for the AU.

  • Yeah the loop player is what sold it to me as I could try my own samples first, a good way to test rather than the stock Sugar Bytes presets which aren't usually my bag. :)

    It’s da bombdiggidy :)

  • I haven’t even looked at the demo yet. At $17 this is prolly wait for a sale. Kinda droolin for some fresh sugarbytes tho

That makes me feel so much better :) And thanks to @Carnbot ..... I was getting nowhere with this, but all of a sudden I can make it make noise in the field I want rather than trying/failing to adapt etc. That uncertain 18 dollar purchase now feels like a Friday night three and a half :) Bargain....

  • I was just playing around with a very simple kick and snare kind of loop in this and was really impressed what it came up with, so I think I may have been a bit harsh in my judgement earlier. My advice would be, think about the level of complexity you want in your music, then put in something that is about 20 percent of that complexity level into this app and see what it comes up with, the results can be pretty damn cool. I’m going to resist buying it now (must....be....strong.......ughhh), but I will when it goes on sale.

  • Again, another good example of how devs can get sales by opening up good demo versions of their apps. If I couldn’t demo this I almost certainly wouldn’t have bought it based on what I heard in the YouTube vids currently available.

  • Good thing about this release is that I ended up getting Effectrix, which I never thought I wanted. And now I need it.

Yo Skip! I bought it figuring you can’t miss for $4 although I’m not sure Looperator doesn’t cover all the bases already. It’s a lot deeper than it looks even though it looks plenty deep. SugarBytes don’t design the prettiest UI aesthetics but they’re always pretty intuitive. DrumComputer being the exception. Dare I say there’s never been a better drum synth/sequencer.

Yeah, it’s pretty sweet. Though, I might be cool with just the free standalone for awhile I think.

  • Unfortunately for me the standalone of all Sugar Bytes effects apps Looperator/Turnado/Effectrix aren't working for me when attached to my audio interface, just breaks them all. SB are trying to reproduce so they can fix it.

Can anyone else reproduce this bug?

Yes. Strange that I missed this before. I'll report it as well.

Thanks, yeah same on my ipad Air 2 as well as my 12.9

  • Hi everyone,

I have read most of the previous pages and Looperator is my first experience with a Sugar Bytes app. I discovered it with the Sound Test Room video. For now I only played a bit with the free standalone version. It's a great sample mangler and it reminds me a bit of Yellofier.

Here are some of the results of my first experiments, mainly hitting the random buttons of the 6 sequence lanes.

  • @Carnbot I'm expecting a fix for standalone w/ external audio to be released soon.

Yes I'm on the beta, definitely updates are improving things :)

  • Bought this today... SB needs to run a sale on the desktop version.. Wow.. this is special..
    wonderful app..

  • Is this the Serato Sample we always wanted on iOS? Seems to be running on steroids..

  • I’m disappointed they’re still using low-res textures for the UI. Compared to other apps, it looks like something from the past decade, along with some of the other bugs (like the error message referencing Aparillo) it makes me think that was a very low-effort port.

I love it on desktop and have just dipped my toe in the iOS version and really don’t care that the UI is a direct port as it sounds and functions exactly the same so far. Rezzing up the UI would have been a waste of money for me that should be spent fixing bugs in Factory and Aparillo.

Initial tests in NS2 felt great so I am cleaning up my iPad, dumping my big BM3 library and rebuilding a new NS2 library so I can use Looperator as a key part of my new tracks moving forward.

What makes it hard to use in BM3?

It is not so much that it is hard to use in BM3 as I think it is just more powerful in NS2
where you can send midi notes to AU fx. With Looperator receiving midi you can switch between 128 presets on the fly. (You can also switch patterns with Effectrix and adjust Turnado knobs this way).

Given that BM3 is still so buggy and clunky for AU automation in general, getting Looperator was just the final piece to tilt things in favour of NS2.

Cool, tyvm for sharing your perspective :)

  • How do you shorten the steps like in Effectrix?

Number of steps is fixed to 16. I do miss that about Effectrix.

  • Wow, I am so loving Looperator in NS2. What a simply lovely combo. This setup is going to last me a loooooong time.

I think you are meant to be able to adjust that and other things as well- like Ableton link. I’m sure when I first got it I was playing several presets with only 8 beats. Look here in the manual- it’s just that you can’t seem to reach it via the settings menu- any ideas anyone?

  • is the stand alone not compatible with bluetooth audio?

That is different than what Brother Gus refers to which is being able to effect this...
