Hooked on TinAudio T2 (30-40$ on aliexpress) for details in the midrange and a balanced overall signature. If you're ok with the lack of sub-bass, they are absurd value for an everyday pair that's good enough for (amateur) critical listening. They make listening through my Sony 7506 sound like wearing sunglasses under dim lighting.
Still occasionally enjoy my Grado SR80 when I crave that sound signature. When I get tired of IEMs, I usually switch to VE Monk+ these days (3$!!) Warmer and bigger soundstage than T2, while still being quite balanced.
Audio Technica ATH-M40x (closed)
AKG K240 (open)
Sennheiser hd25.
They’re a bit like Daves brush from Only Fools and Horses.
30 years old, replaced the cable twice and the ear pads several times . Sound as good as the day they were bought.
+1
I've listened to a bunch of interviews with Andrew Scheps. He's one of the most respected mix engineers in the business and he does all of his mixing now on a laptop with headphones. He uses Sony 7506 and I think I even heard him talking about using in ears sometimes. He has millions of dollars worth of studio equipment that he's either sold, given away or has sitting around unused. If he can mix some of the biggest hit songs with that set up it proves you need to know your equipment, you ears and have lots of experience not lots of gear
Sennheiser PX 100-ii
ATH M30x seem ok. Decent value and clearer bass reproduction than consumer cans. Prob not completely neutral but I use em for leisure listening too
AKG k702 with the curly lead. Super comfy, great for longer mixing/listening sessions. Never get sweaty. Forget I’m even wearing them.
Audio Technica ATH-R70x mostly. The most comfortable headphones I’ve ever worn. I will literally forget I have them on during long sessions (which makes the long cord a great thing!)
Sony 7506 for most jamming
Hifiman HE-400s for more detailed stuff
ATH-M50xBT
They’re bluetooth, but they also have a standard 3.5mm input. I had a pair of the original M50s for a long time ago that I used until they literally fell apart. They just sound right to me. I also have Shure SE215s that I mostly use when playing live, but I think they sound very good too.
Panasonic RP-HT21 😄
Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro.
Cannot recommend enough. Sound blissful, so comfortable.
Had the same pair for 17 years. Finally the cord wore out and I bought new ones with black cushions instead of gray. Oh my God. Another 17+ years of great listening.
165 on Amazon, less than what I paid back in the day. Before 2003, I bought maybe 4-5 pairs in 4 years between 50-100 bucks. They say cheap isn't necessarily cheap, expensive isn't necessarily expensive. When it comes to the DT770 Pro 80 ohm, I'd say they were a bargain.
KRK KNS-8400
Used Beyerdynamic DT770 for over a decade. Love them. I use AT M-50's with the iPad unless I'm too lazy in which case I'll use whatever buds are nearby.
KRK KNS-8400 - monitoring, comfort
Grado SR-80 (modded) - engagement
AKG K-99 - entry level AKG
AKG K-812, Airpods Pro, Beyerdynamic DT-880, AKG K-240
A matter of facts, just Apple Airpods Pro is my no 1 choise (when not needing low latency between screen and sound) - Airpods Pro is really amazing! Have had sound/noise in my ears since the stoneage (!), but nothing have made me more happy then Airpods Pro!
Exellent sound, extremly comfortable, great noise cancellation, smart charging and super high quality...
Sure, 220-250 bucks is a lot of money, but, if you have an pretty new iPhone/iPad, it's a marvelous combination...
I had the misfortune of trying a pair of Sennheiser HD800s that my friend has the other day. Would love a pair of those, no chance I could justifiably afford them any time soon though. But yeah, believe the hype...
I'm still rocking my 20+ year old sennheiser hd 280 pro...
I wasn't too happy about its coiled wire (too much weight concentrated on one side) so about 10 years ago tried bunch of different brands/models and decided to replace the cushions and modded it with a socket, so now I can replace/remove wire.
Too used to them, I guess this is what reference/monitor headphones are about...
Sennheiser HD 600 ..Soundstage is so wide and natural that for a moment it’s sounded like the audio was still coming from my Adam A7X monitors; Especially when it’s been a little while since I last used em.
👍
Did you compare them to normal (wired) EarPods? How much of a difference in audio quality?
For me the Airpods Pro is much better...
HiFi in a real meaning if you ask me!
I use my Sony MDR-1R (which has an enhanced low end) and a pair of 1-More Triple Driver in-ear headphones.
Audio Technica ATH-M50X.
I have a pair of those triple drivers. What do you think of them? Nice highs and mids but too much bass, though morphit comes to the rescue on that. Soundstage is a bit shallow for my liking.
I bought the 1-Mores mainly for listening to music rather than for mixing etc, for which I prefer the Sony MDR-1R. Personally, I bought both headphones specifically for the bass response.
Senheisser HD650, apple earbuds for getting different point of view.. i check final master on minitors Presonus E8
👍
