  • Old thread dug back up. I’m getting some new AKG K553’s this week because I feel like I need a flat soundstagey closed back for my late night mixing and EQing, panning, etc. I have Morphit but I’ve been using ATH M50x and I feel like I need to step it up a notch (despite using Mastering Assistant all the time).
Has anybody else had experience with these and what did you think of them?

  • Sony 7520
    Grado SR325

  • Lidl. The grey ones.

  • Beats Studio pro [wired via USB C]

(I thought they would color the sound a lot but as it turns out from the Morphit correction, it’s not so bad at all - I barely hear a difference) - beats have a terrible dislike and I’m not sure why? At least the older beats , the new ones are apparently almost as good as the AirPods Max if not as good.

But I love Morphit. As long as you have decent, mid grade quality cans, it makes any quality headphones perfect to mix and master with.

  • I get some surprisingly good mixes with apple earbuds and Morphit. Sometimes I like mixes from that more than my 7506s

I’ve tried those phones, they sound wonderful! Will be my next ones, if I can afford it.

    Sennheiser IE100 Pro & HD25

I have the IE100 Bluetooth bundle which comes with adapter and the normal cable, switching between both is quick and easy. I use them for 90% of my daily music listening and production, then the trusty HD25 for DJing and as a production alternative.

I was thinking about some open over the ear cans for mastering, NDH 30, Audeze MM-100 and several Beyers are also on my list.

  • Hifiman Sundara & FiiO K7 headphone amp. Great combo.

😂 did the orange ones give up the ghost?

They did, eventually. I’ve got two pairs of the grey, though, to have one in reserve. (To be fair, I used to have a pair of Sennheisers and they disintegrated too.)

  • Anyone have any decently priced ear buds or in ear monitors or whatever they like? I’ve been reading some stuff about them about how they can help get a more accurate sense of the sound and am curious now since I have noticed good results from the apple earbuds

Sony MDR-V150 DJ/monitor headphones, cheap, lightweight, easy to stock under my couch table, plugs into my iPad with a USB-C adapter, great for casual listening, gives me really good results combined with TB Morphit when mixing and mastering. Every cover I put up in Creations are recorded, mixed and mastered with these. Only con is the lack of padding on top which in longer sessions might be somewhat disturbing.

Edit: since they are DJ headphones I can easily just use one of the cans to cover one ear and be reasonably in touch with my family while playing around😁.

I'm using the Sennheiser IE100 Pro, see my post above. The y also have morphit support (you can use the IE40 Pro curve, they're identical).

If you you don't need the BT option then then you may find the IE40 Pro for even cheaper. For the IE100 Pro they just changed the housing to the same one as the higher end ones and made the cable compatible with the series.
