I think it's wise to ask Piano Motifs for an option to export MIDI channels as stems and then ask for more than 2 channels in the creation... 4-6-8. More of a full fledged compositional output for an ensemble.
Splitting the current output to "Piano Motifs Melody" and Piano "Motifs Bass" would be a great little update for me and worth $2-4 in a tip. Does anyone else value this feature? or is 2 channels live and combined channels in LK work for you.
I looked into the LK Matrix to see if I could get it to respect the MIDI channels of the import file or potentially apply some sort of split based upon note ranges but I came up with nuttin'.
So, LK has this one annoying feature and it's also crashed a lot for me but it's still a nice MIDI Loop launcher and seems to play well with some other apps like "EG Pulse".
I'll probably hold off a bit for the big Atom 2 release... I never got much traction with Atom.
@McD
In Xequence 2 ,it is pretty simple to import the Piano Motif, and export the separate channels as 2 midi files.
Once you have your Piano Motif in X2, select just one clip, and when exporting choose the ‘selected clips only’ option.
Then do the same with just the other clip selected.

Good news! The LK folks are asking how users would like to handle multi-channel MIDI imports. So, there's a race between @azul3D_Apps and Imaginando to help me avoid adding yet another app to my workflow.
Now... If Staffpad could do a better job importing MIDI without falling off the cliff every time.
Don't hold your breath. Those big apps have to move really slowly to avoid breaking existing
features. I picked up about $85 in Libraries and that was at 50% off regular. But they sound
amazing... really meticulously recorded and inserted into my little iPad: Choirs and Solo Strings. I'll do a Piano Motifs for you with them... maybe convert one I have using the new instruments to skip the MIDI import hell and subsequent cut and paste trauma.
Done. This one is creeping me out a bit.
@McD - sounds like atmos music from a 1970s gialli horror movie by someone like Dario Argento, probably called something, indeed, like Black Friday. Which is a good thing
Wow, no doubt. Sounds creepy but very nice.
@McD, it seems like I should be able to have an option to export 2 midi files (one for melody and one for accompaniment) instead of one file with 2 MIDI tracks
I think and hope from your wording that the existing method of one file export will still be possible. Options are good though.
@SpookyZoo, yes, definitely the current one file export option will still be available.
These are the droids we are looking for.
@azul3D_Apps for us BM3 users, the 2 file option would be great. For some reason with the single file export, BM3 merges the content of the file into one.
If y’all ain’t having enough fun...
Load PianoMotifs resultant midi files into Photon ( gasp! Not the incredibly powerful Photon :P ).
Load your melody into one pad and your accompaniment into another. Mess NONDESTRUCTIVELY with the tempo, transposition and regroove.
Video...or it never happened!
I'd appreciate that option personally!
Is anyone interested in a mini tutorial how to record piano motifs into Drambo, sans import options? I could record one in the next day.
(This video isn’t a tutorial btw, just an example of piano motifs processed by Drambo)
Sounds great! Really great! So Staffpad libraries can be played by other apps?Didn't know that.
I love the direction you took in the 2nd half of the track btw
The workflow is to create and archive a collection of Piano Motifs MIDI files. Then import them individually into StaffPad... it will only import a single file so the 2 MIDI channel PM files are good. Staffpad opens them when they are not too long. But the 2 tracks are not assigned to any instrument since Piano Motifs doesn't label channels 1 and 2 with instrument choices.
So, I must highlight and copy to the clipboard one of the 2 tracks and paste it into a specific instrument track. and Repeat with the 2nd track.
For the piece attached here: I opened a 2nd Piano Motifs MIDI file in a 2nd project and copied to clipboard and then re-opened the first project and pasted in the note for a 2nd
section and repeated these steps for the 2nd voice.
Then a copied some of the tracks to additional instrument voices (i.e. copied the violin to
a flute).
For this latest version I replied the original instruments selected in a nice piece with options from the VOXOS Choir Library (Solo Soprano, Bass Choir Section) and Solo Strings (Violin, Viola, Cello, Bass). Then a tweaked the reverbs up from the default and published the music
to a wave output file and shared it with Audioshare. Did a little massaging in AudioShare (normalized) and uploaded to SoundCloud.
I didn't compose in the classic sense but I assembled from other rejected Piano Motifs
choices... oh and in the original instrumental version I hand entered that Cello solo at the end for some variety. So, I composed the Cello Solo.
I'm looking forward to more refinement and MIDI file options from Piano Motifs. I think I'll
use this to kick start a piece and then hand tweak some of the parts. If I can mix chords and arpeggios and add some nice solo parts I think I can put together longer pieces and save the drudgery of hand entering so much of the score. And encourage others to follow me with this workflow if they are not comfortable with music theory to write useful harmonies.
Sign me up for that! Liked that video you posted. Perhaps the mini tutorial could be without the jittery video effect?
No jittery effects haha. Was just trying out capcut for the first time when I did that.
Well, there are some unique things you can do to Piano Motifs in Drambo which I figure are worth shedding some light on. I'll tag you when the tut is done
Cool, thanks! I liked the modulation techniques I could just make out in that last video. So, yes, looking forward to seeing what you got.
A new version of Piano Motifs is available for download. It provides an option to save motifs as 2 MIDI files: one for melody and one for accompaniment.
Thanks! Very useful, given current limitations in other apps.
I never get tired of following these experiments of yours with PM and Staffpad. I have a feeling you’re going to wind up costing me a lot of money.
Sorry to crash the party but here is a noob question: I know it was somehow possible to export the wave files of the piano playing, but I cannot find the export button anymore. I am missing something big time, but I really need a gracious pointer here (and I will probably reply with something like this: 🙈🤦🏻♂️)
StaffPad is NOT required. These Piano Motifs "stems" are great in any MIDI file backpack app. The ability to load MIDI's into
distinct channels is idea: LK in AUM, Cubasis, Auria Pro.
StaffPad has the best sound libraries ported over from the desktop world at a 66-80% discount. Of course, the desktop DAW's
can handle more processing but StaffPad does a nice job for us. The default sound library in StaffPad for the $90 starting fee
is good enough for orchestral composing.
One solution to mix in synths is to output StaffPad Audio files and continue working on the final product in AUM or another DAW.
Piano Motifs driving a bank of synths is also a great tool for making complex sounding music without a hint of natural acoustic
instruments.
After early experiments with Piano Motifs stems I can see that I will need to do a lot of hand editing to insure the harmonies sound pleasant. Piano Motifs uses a lot of "passing tones" and layering multiple tracks with passing tones means you get a lot of unpleasant sounding "Vertical" chord structures. @azul would have to limit his "melodies" to only chord notes or create a 3rd output that outputs 2-4 note chord structures. Then I would use 1 bass, 1 chord, and 1-2 melodies at a time. Very doable and a perfect description of the "Piano Concertos" app. You get to input the chords and it generates 3 files suitable for
orchestration. There would be options for closed and open chord voicings. This could also be an enhancement to Piano Motifs but it would probably require a total re-write so a new app might make more sense financially. Piano Motifs is a great MIDI generator and adding IAA or AUv3 so it can present inside the DAW would be wonderful for workflow improvements. It's like
a smarted Fugue Machine. There might be interactions between Piano Motifs and Riffer that might be worth investigation. I'd
like some more control of the bass lines to make them more "danceable" and Riffer could fit that role using the progressions
that Piano Motifs is outputting. So, the final results would be more EDM.
An app called "EDM Motifs" would probably outsell Piano Motifs.
