What is the purpose of adding 12 dB of Gain? I don’t get that.
From what I can see in your screenshot, the app hasn’t been updated, the default parameter which I set in the session to be the Melody Vel isn’t shown on the left of PM. Unfortunately the app doesn’t display the version, but you can go to the App Store and see if you have updated or not.
Pure Piano’s output is always very low, plus I was using very low velocities to try to hit a soft sound. If you take a look at the video the meter never surpasses 0dB.
@azul3D_Apps Is the 'Midi Output' IAP needed for the AUv3 to output midi when used in for example AUM or Cubasis?
Hi @Samu, no, the MIDI Out IAP is for when you want to drive the standalone Piano Motifs to another app that has virtual MIDI In capabilities or an external device. The AUv3 IAP is all you need to bring Piano Motifs up as a MIDI Plug-In in a host like AUM.
Thanks, I'm currently on an app-diet but I'll consider this as one of my next few purchases
I fixed my 2 mysteries and the AUM project makes the volumes move... but NOT to the same values between melody and accompaniment when driven from the same LFO source. You must be implementing a scaling factor inside the app to keep the melody prominent, right?
I must have been multiple updates behind. I would hit update and NOT see the MIDI Control features added to make this project work as in the video. I had to reboot to see the final Update in the App Store. Now I’m good.
I never hit the 3 dot eclipse to expose the volume sliders in Piano Motifs which did display one update back.
Please consider putting current version information somewhere in the app the manual that is displayed in help.
In the video you can see that AUM CC curve mapping (min-max) is used so that melody and accompaniement have slightly different volumes, even though coming from the same LFO source.
Thanks! I opened that window and can see how the inputs are treated to different min-max values. AUM continues to amaze me with the features implemented.
Yes, you can even reverse a mapping, dipping down in that window. In this case, melody and accompaniement would rise and fall in an intertwining way.
Good idea! I will add it in the next release.
There could always just be a randomise velocity setting in the app that works like one of my most used 'midi tools' by Viktor Porov, 'midi curve'. If you choose 5% for example, it will be allowed to roam in a 5 percent range below / above the set velocity. You can also set a min / max output velocity. Much quicker and handier than fiddling about with lfos, though different, of course, from using say to a sine lfo.
IPad Pro M2 w/ latest update. Currently using Piano Motifs (PM) inside of AUM. I have PM set to stream 3 channels into 3 separate synths. The midi is set correctly on three separate channels. For some reason the third channel doesn't seem to play. The other two channels work fine. Can anyone else verify this?
I seem to get the same result on my iPhone 11 Pro. Maybe Im doing something incorrect. Ive tried different settings changing how channel 3 plays, different motifs with no luck on both devices.
Hi @TurnItUp , have you switched it on under the Midi settings? By default it is off.
Yes I have. I haven’t had this issue until after I updated PM and my devices to the latest OS.
I just uninstalled and reinstalled and it seems to work on my phone now. Ill test on IPad when I get home in a few hours.
Hi @TurnItUp,
Don't know what the issue could have been. Toggling the switch in Piano Motif's MIDI settings (3rd Track On/Off) actually causes an action in the program, so it is unlikely a case of saved corrupted data. I would try restarting your device, before uninstalling and reinstalling, to see if this has any effect. As you probably already know, when you uninstall, all the data for the app is lost, so if you had saved motifs you will lose them. Make sure you export the saved motifs you like before uninstalling.
Also, on a side note, when you're auditioning motifs, either in the Library or when you're auditioning in the Arrangement screen, the third track won't be played even if you have Piano Motif's MIDI 3rd Track On.
Hi @Gavinski, individual note velocity randomizing inside the app could be something to be implemented when playing a motif, but making it reproduceable and transferable into a MIDI file would require a lot more internal pipe changes. Would a non-reproduceable velocity randomization be something that would be useful? Can't promise anything right now, but surely something I can investigate.
@azul3D_Apps
Thanks for the response back. I think that this is exactly what I was experiencing. I have not noticed this before now. Everything works as expected. I truly appreciate your work and love this app. I use it all the time to create samples to chop/arrange in Koala.
Might be worth trying - if you have 'midi tools' you could try the midi curve app and see if you like the results. Mozaic I think also has at least one script that can do this on patchstorage, but no idea of the name. Probably McD knows. It's no biggie for me, it's easy enough for me to use midi curve in the middle when sending midi from pm to another app
@Wim’s RANBO-Multi-Channel-Note-Humanizer is the one to get for Mozaic velocity and time randomization. Ideas that would be easy to build right into the app once you hear the benefits.
It changes the machine to something more human like an AI Robot set to “fuck with it”:

I knew you'd remember, cheers McD!
It took a few minutes to find it.
I knew it started with a “R” and thanks to @rs2000 I have all the early scripts downloaded from a zip file… which actually is a bit of a pain to scroll through.
Mozaic has no inbuilt function to search by name, if I remember, or make subfolders of patches? Yeah it gets a bit hard to keep track of what's what
I do think a zip file with folders or maybe it’s a zip makes a folder that will import so that’s an option for someone wanting better organization into folders. I have the flat folder of everything @rs2000 uploaded and he documented how to download a complete patchstorage section too… notes are somewhere in the forum. It requires a Mac and Python as I recall to download and zip.
Hi @Gavinski and @McD, my general philosophy with respect to adding humanizer features (random velocity and random delay) to the app has been to let tools that are specifically designed for that task, do the job. These tools offer many more parameters, variability and features than what I could offer with a reasonable implementation effort. I could be taking the wrong approach here, but that is currently where I stand with respect to humanizer features.
Yes, definitely wouldn't disagree

And of course that app that does it all: Drambo
Edited: Double post
A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.23) is now available. What’s new in this version:
• Added a Host BPM multiple to be used when in Sync Mode. When the multiple is used, the app's BPM will be a multiple of the Host's BPM. The possible multiples are: 1/4x,1/2x and 2x. (AUv3 MIDI Plug-In only)
• Added the App Version to the manual. The manual can be accessed by pressing the Help button.
• Fixed issue where when the Min Bass Interval was used, some accompaniment arpeggio notes would not play in the correct octaves.
To access the new feature, long press on the SYNC button. This will bring up a popover window with both the Start Delay function and the BPM multiple function.
Enjoy!

Thanks @azul3D_Apps , think this one will be very useful + handy for 5bpm ambient 😴💤
