Thanks @royor i finally found it a few weeks ago.
2 very useful updates recently @azul3D_Apps
How do you specify velocity?
Edit nevermind I see the video, watching now.
Actually the video doesn’t show the velocity controls it shows the melody sequence feature. To access the velocity control (AUv3 only) you press on the Octave Shift Label that now has an ellipsis. This toggles to the Velocity Control sliders.
Agreed, that would be getting into serious feature bloat territory!
I realized that after I watched it. I thought, that’s not velocity, lol. I figured I had missed it.
Thanks for the heads up. I love this because sometimes the lead would be way louder than the arrangement, or whatever, so it helps to get the velocity more in line with how you want it to sound. Cheers!
I would like to [...] let Piano Motifs concentrate at what it's good at doing: generating MIDI that is musical. The app is already starting to bloat with settings and functionality and I have to be very careful on choosing what I add to it.
👏👏👏
Sounds good. Hopefully Apple have some guidelines available. Here are some notes on AU parameters from the AUM developer, they might be helpful: http://devnotes.kymatica.com/auv3_parameters.html
jason, I believe the simplicity is still there. You can still do exactly the same thing you used to do with the original UI, hit Play and generate a random motif. Don’t like it, hit next and play again, nothing else to set or program.
I am very grateful with all the people here that have provided feedback and as users of the app have made thoughtful suggestions for improvement, especially people like @McD, with a lot of experience and insight that have supported and used the app from its beginnings. I believe they have made the app a better app.
I love all of the updates you’ve put into the app, but generally run it in “trust the developer mode”, just hitting next and being pleasantly surprised with each new tune.
I’ve cleaned up my phone Home Screen and keep most apps in the App Library section, but Piano Motifs has an easy access place of honor. One of the few apps where 2-3 seconds of effort on my part always yields something delightful. ❤️
You can't please everyone, but you've pleased most of us here.
@Angie, thanks, very happy Piano Motifs has a special place in your musical toolbox. ☺️
If I've reinforced something in this journey it's exactly that
A new version of Piano Motifs (v4.21) is now available. What’s new in this version:
• Melody and Accompaniment Velocity are now AU parameters that can be controlled from hosts like AUM.
• Added new accompaniments for randomly generated motifs.
Below you can find a video showcasing the new feature. Just Piano Motifs and Pure Piano with 2 LFOs one to modulate the tempo and one to modulate the velocity of both the melody and accompaniment.
Enjoy!
Is it just me or does Pure Piano in this video sound like it needs a piano tuner. Weird. I have never felt that way when using it. Could it be an artifact of the screen recording?
Thanks @azul3D_Apps for being 3D and providing AU parameters for LFO addicts. One sure fire way to sell and handful of copies is to post your AUM project on patchstorage with this video in the project description. Then I just download your AUM config and maybe buy the LFO app too in needed... "LFOH!" from K-Devices is used here and bingo: I don't own it yet ($4).
Very nice! Sounds good to my ears. Kudos for implementing the suggested AU parameters so quickly, it turns out very nicely to get slight movements in the motifs.
Don’t know what it could be. I’ve noticed sometimes YouTube videos play in mono or in low rates and the sound isn’t good. I used the mellow setting and increased the reverb. I also was going for the soft action with low velocities.
I uploaded the AUM project to PatchStorage:
https://patchstorage.com/piano-motifs-purepiano-tempo-and-dynamics/
One thing I noticed is that PurePiano doesn’t seem to save the settings I used so it reverts to the default piano.
Thanks 🙏. Hope you can get good use of this new feature.
I love Pure Piano because it has the cool GUI for changing tone, reverb and even has a setting for a percussive/hand muted piano that no other piano app offers. I'd love to be wrong about that by the way. I try to use Transient FX apps to squeeze
out all the sustain and drop any decay.
Very cool... I'm on it. I know the hidden plumbing of the MIDI Control will elude many Piano Motifs users so just jumping to
a working solution is great. When I posted and LFO solution I plumbed up 3 popular LFO's (mLFO, Rosetta Suite LFO and one more I forget but I don't own the K-Devices so I'll either fix that or swap in my favorite "Rosetta" and re-plumb it for practice.
Too many apps don't and that makes AUM Projects a bit unreliable to deliver "instant on" results... but it's the best way to
share complexity fast. I have started pushing out Mozaic scripts using this for delivery since set-up is key and scripts often need MIDI channels and script to app MIDI routes to be configured by hand.
I will test and enjoy the benefits of your labors.
Back on the topic of the way you have updated the app Fernando, I completely agree with you that the changes have been good and the app is not overly complicated in any way. A 5-minute glance through the interface is enough to grasp the possibilities. As mentioned above, you can't please all the people all the time, but most of us here are extremely pleased - I'd even say stunned - at how great you have made this app. In particular, the undoubtedly herculean task of learning to make an auv3 app when you didn't know how to previously, deserves a heart handshake, a bow or even a hug ♥

Very true McD!
FYI: Since it spits out MIDI and exports MIDI files I just point it at any instrument app I have handy. I set it up yesterday to
hit three channels in iSymphonic and actually bought yet another IAP in that beast to have a nice solo Harp. Then I went to bed to wait for the purchase to download... if you close the app the download is cancelled so I had to leave my iPad open uninterrupted to finish the download and then today... I'm just not in the mood. Oh well... only $200 more to have the whole set and still there's no pack with a single snare drum... just clumsy flams and rolls. Weird choices that cost more than they are worth in iSymphonic. It's just a bit above SampleTank in terms of neglect.
I bought isymphonic and probably bought a couple of packs but it has been so long since I used it I don't remember. As I like things on the experimental side, a lot of the Decent Sampler packs scratch my itch for something cinematic. I'll bet there are probably some nice harps for DS, there are certainly a few small things like the box harp etc.
WARNING: the Gain widget on the Pure Piano track makes the first experience pretty memorable with headphones. Wow. I turned it down so fast and changed the GAIN widget to flat… not sure it’s really needed but I’m guessing you intended to automate it from one of the LFOH! Instances but it’s not set that way.
The first LFOH! Is outputting CC=3 and is moving the BPM setting for AUM but ther other is outputting CC=9 and the Volume slider for the Pure Piano track is set up for CC 7. Either changing the LFOH! To CC 9 or AUM’s Pure Piano Channel slider assignment to 7 are needed.
The Pure Piano UI dot seems to be set to the upper left corner “Reverse” which is the one spot that does NOT sound like a Piano. I’ll try it again and see if I left it set on Reverse or if it’s in the project file. I closed AUM with it dead center.
On the second load Pure Piano pegged on the lower left for “Mellow”… nice one.
But damn, I set LFOH! #2 to CC 7 and the slider jumper to +4dB and even with an adjusted GAIN widget which is either not needed or should be programmed to an LFOH! CC.
I’d also lower the upper bound of LFOH! To NOT go above 0 dB. Save someone’s hearing.
Hmmm, before uploading to PatchStorage I had loaded the AUM project on another device to make sure it worked and it did, no problem. No automation was meant on the Gain nor on the channel volume. The whole setup is set so you never go above 0 dB at the output.
The second LFO is the one modulating the Piano Motifs velocity, both Melody and Accomp, through Channel 1, CC 9. BTW, make sure you have the latest PM (v4.21). Could that be the problem?
When I tried the project in another device it defaulted to the middle. The original project has it set to Mellow. When I reloaded the project on the same device it set it to Mellow. The mysteries of iOS….
Gavin, thanks a lot for your kind words! Thank you for being a great supporter of PM since it’s humble beginnings and for always providing constructive feedback, finding bugs and for helping spread the word about this little app with your videos which apart from being instructive show your ability to produce some great music.
😀 you forgot Cowbell Motifs 😂
Must be. Where in the app is the version number? I just updated. But my 2 issues remain.
How are you limiting the max output? +12.8 dB in the Gain Widget is really loud for my usual iPad settings. Hopefully, downloaders use lower audio settings and don’t get the blast I got. The GAIN widget and the slider settings are additive I think.
Notice how LFOH #2 is set to CC = 9 and the Channel 2 Volume is set to CC 7. They should match right? Either 7 or 9 for the LFO to move the slider?
@McD , aren’t you confusing the available volume settings? CC9 is for the two new internal PM parameters to control Melody and Accompaniment Velocity as per @azul3D_Apps video. CC7 is what AUM uses as the default for the first channel (the second is channel 2, CC7, 3rd channel 3, CC7 etc)
Thanks. I’m not seeing the changes in my PM instance that reference volume. Weird… must watch video. Where in the e app are versions displayed? I hit update in the App Store but must verify AUM starts the updated version I guess.
