For those who haven't heard of OTT (I suppose it's more a desktop-production phenomenon):

It's a multiband dynamics plugin with upwards and downwards blablablabla

    Here's what it really does:

    • It selectively slams the dominant parts of your sound
    • Instead it amplifies the quiet, subtle parts of the sound and blows them up to massive proportions.

    As a result:

    • all subtlety goes out the window
    • movement in your sound gets ridiculously emphasized (e.g. filter movement, phasing, timbre changes, FM movements, etc.)

That slightly vanilla synth bass suddenly becomes a rabid dog that bites your face off. E.g. it's how neurofunk and brostep get their insanely growly bass/lead sounds. But obviously you can use it for transforming any kind of sound.

Note: this is a heavy-handed special effect, not a subtle and transparent multiband editing tool. B)

Here's a link to the manual for those interested:

    Gotcha!

The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • So is Woott a kind of extended OTT or is exact the the same? At least the GUI looks already better.
Funny i never heard about OTT (maybe since i´m not the EDM guy) until this thread, but call me interested now :)

  • So just put Woot on everything

Triple band Woot is pure magic. That is a little-known production secret weapon. Don't tell anyone.

Visually reminds me of Squashit or Pressit from Klev. Love all of Bram’s stuff, can’t wait!!

  • I haven't been this excited for a new app in a long while. Even though Trance is my mainstay genre, I've also dabbled in Bass House. If this is exactly like OTT or even better, just take my fucking money already @brambos !

Question - will this app be universal?

(The closest thing I've found to emulating OTT on iOS is Bark Filter's Tripleband preset with AutoGain and Limiter turned on, but with no upward compression, it just doesn't quite reach what I'm looking for. It's not like having a dedicated OTT-styled plugin.)

  • Woott and MDE and Barricade on the Master.
Do I throw Bark Filter in there for shits and giggles?

 If you wish mate. It's your mastering chain. I can imagine Woott replacing Bark Filter for many functions in my workflow.

  • I want to destroy sound waves :)

  • Will be interested in hearing how you use it @iOSTRAKON with all the distortion you lay down 👊🏻

  • I’m saving a song just for this release ;)

Ah, right, then I would suggest slapping FAC Bandit somewhere on the mastering chain mate along with Bark Filter, WoOTT, MDE, and Barricade. Just my two cents obviously.

Nothing against the devs but when I see an app coming soon post I get Drambo flashbacks

Me too - sometimes I think it would be better just to keep it a secret and announce it only when it’s about to hit the app store. That way there is no waiting.
... mind you though sometimes anticipation is nine tenths of the pleasure depending on what comes out. I have a small collection of ‘instabuys’ that just take up space and collect dust 😕

  • Exactly, haha. A lot of the pleasure is in the anticipation. And of course it does a dev no harm to stoke that. Only loser is your wallet and your sense of contentment with what you already have 🤔

Some developers don't announce until it is about to drop, this developer is one of those.

  • Like I said, no problem how devs, musicians, movies etc promote their art. They can do what they want without any judgment from myself. Anticipation is a bitch sometimes :)

  • Ive been using OTT for years in ableton. I use it on just about everything. The sweet spot is dialed in around 33% dry wet. I saw a skrillex screen share video, where he was going through one of his sessions, and he had OTT on just about everything, and that got me going on it.

Now, of course this depends on the genre, but pretty much any of the more aggressive dance genre's (EDM, trap, house) etc ill use it on Individual tracks, busses, master, etc etc.

When it comes to more ambient, deep techno, pop music or stuff that needs a little less squash, I still use it, just a little less.

really excited for this to come to iOS

I think there’s a very small time window for developers. They have to generate enough sales upon release to make the App Store rankings and thus leverage the hype into more solid revenue. Of course, there’s a world of difference between a 24 hour heads-up and a two year slow burn.

  • I’ll be checking this thread every half hour til it’s out.

I intend to launch tomorrow. So you can stop refreshing the App Store for now :)

Also, you should be able to put it on everything you like as it's really low on resources: I just tried WOOTT in AUM on top of a Ruismaker Noir loop on my slow iPod Touch (which is somewhere between a 5S and a 6 in terms of performance) and I could run 15 instances (!) before it started crackling :D

Drambo wasn't coming soon. This one is ;)

    🤣

  • oops, looks like someone is not happy with how the loudnesswar ended

  • There's a big difference between outright brick wall loudness and multi-band levelling fidelity. Like any tool - you can use it well, or you can use it badly.

YMMV - but you'll get the most out of this plugin if you make EDM and D&B styles. However, I've also heard this type of effect is very popular with fans of binaural/field recording.
