Not being a guitar player, all I know is the Thu stuff ( and Nembrini - takes a bit more dialing ) makes my fake guitar playing sound “real”.

Would anyone recommend the Rock over the Funk?

I like Rock but I think I play more blues and funk.

  • by the way, Overloud's new rig (Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50) sounds very interesting! I like Fillmore in real life and it sounds very closed (at least on YouTube video)

  • @JoyceRoadStudios Yes my go to is a Nembrini chain in AUM, set up with MIDI control for 4 FX with my Blueboard. I don’t really need much more than 4 right now.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Update to my original novella: I emailed Overloud last night and received a very generous reply this morning. The three unavailable effects in the Full Pack will be available in the next update, and they gave me codes for them anyway. I think this makes the effects count 80 or 81 instead of 77 as the Full Pack states, so they really didn’t have to do that. I also sent them a video of the splitter/mixer behavior as requested.

    The Bass amps are:
    Bass 900
    BassSuperTube CL
    BassSuperTube VR
    Brit S. Bass (bass/guitar flexible)
    Bassface 59 (bass/guitar flexible)

    Bass Cabs:
    1X15 Bass Tube
    4x10 Bass Ashes
    4x10 OB Tweed ‘59 (bass/guitar flexible)

In order to get the splitter/mixer in the right position, you have to add it to the chain after the amp but before the cabinet. If you have the cabinet there first, the splitter/mixer will only go on one side or the other. Adding the cabinet after after mixer/splitter will give you the extra + button to put it in between. This may or may not be addressed, just needs an instruction. I also asked for a “reset to default preset” button or a redo button, if it’s an easy add.

I don’t know how the other devs do it, but I’m impressed with the quick and generous communication from Overloud, and the Full Pack so far is excellent. I really want to buy a few rigs but will force myself to wait for a sale.

    Viva Overloud! Viva Nembrini!

  • I was confused by the need for the OverLoud Rig Player since it seems to compete with their suite of Amp, FX, Cabinet suite of modules. But now I think I get it.

There's a whole gamet of hardware simulation platforms: Kemper, Hotone, Line6, Mooer, Neural DSP, Boss... and OverLoud's iRig Player is their entry in that platform marketplace.

Then there are simulation software vendors that sell their wares to run on those platforms and OverLoud has several that sell "patches" for their Rig: ChopTones, Live Ready Sounds, Big Hairy Sounds, etc.

I tried the "American Classics" because it listed 29 Amps and that sounded like a great deal of additional Clean tones for me but the sound quality didn't seem to match the ala carte Amp+FX+Cabinet approach.

There are hundreds of dollars of Rig "Patches" available and they work across many simulation platforms.

Guitar players spent a lot of money on hardware, software, lessons and therapy.

OK... back to IOS and some rational allocation of assets for my hobby.

:Demo for editing the sound chain:

You can add the components in any order and then tap hold them to move wherever you like, even the splitter/mixer. So based on my previous comments I’m basically an idiot.

The TH-U Full Pack is astounding in quality and breadth, I’ve found almost two dozen amps and cabs just for Clean that are all uniquely beautiful and useful. Loving the Carolina 1x12 OB Cab on almost every amp. More soon!

  • Can someone explain the differences between what you get in rig IAPs vs the other IAPs?

  • Iap’s / upgrades from desktop is all a bit vague.

Hopefully someone from @overloud can clear things up.

The rigs are ir's of certain amps recorded in different settings with various clean crunch and dirty settings.
Possibly with various microphones and cabs. You can control various settings on the amps and such and you can add effects and swap cabs and mics and other settings but you don't actually get the amps that were used in the recordings. If that makes sense. I bought the choptones bogiefill 50 which has 96 different setups. It is awesome.

  • @espiegel123 said:

A model can be limited to a discreet piece of hardware or be a model of a hardware collection. The Rig's are models of specific pedal+pre-amp+amp+FX+mic+cabinets in
use. The other IAP's are collections of discreet Pedals, Amps (Pre and Power Combos typically), FX, Mic's and Cabinets.

The Rig exist because a secondary market merged to to sell presets for Kemper, Mooer,
Boss, etc hardware amp sim devices. Overloud saw the market and made a virtual hardware emulation platform plug-in for these developers to port to and they also released some of their own rig models.

The Inception Pattern of modules loaded into modules continues to scale as CPUs and hardware can do more and more work.

The Amp Sim device is like a DAW and the modeled hardware is like an AUv3 and Rigs are like AUM projects with precise collections of modeled devices all wrapped into a back box.

I was highly skeptical of Rigs vs the great Overload devices and then @flo26 drops a demo of the "Choptone Bogna XTC" rig library. The clean are amazing, the rock tones intense and very sensitive to touch dynamics, and it's only (wait for it... 2 companies needs their vig...) $27 for 142 distinct rigs that are based on the Bogner Ecstasy amp that is fed 12 pedals and feeds 11 cabinets using 7 mic's. $27 is rich for my tastes and I've learned I can't get the
same results and need to keep practicing. New software helps me find the drive to practice more. Tradeoffs.

  • Sounds like a pretty good deal if you have the desktop version + any Rigs..

  • The more I use THU I am finding incredibly useful sounds. My previous favorite tones were with various combinations of Nembrini Amps, or Clean again Stage with a Nembrini PSA 1000 in front of it, and an IR after it. THU is very useful in the same ways— I can have multiple instances in AUM and some of the Rig library amps are second to none. I use them like I would a Nembrini amp in AUM sometimes with an IR and my favorite reverb after it, just using THU for the amp or a particular effect. And unlike PG or AmpliTube stuff no pops, clicks or other nastiness even at 64 samples. 4ms round trip latency is very useable. And the feel is there, with THU (and Nembrini) compared to the other guitar apps I use. PG and AmpliTube need auv3 apps, not to mention Tonestack. Well done Overloud.

For guitarists using AUv3 products we have hit the point where you suddenly realize you
have over invested and some great products will not get used. Synth and FX buyers have this feeling constantly when they notice they haven't opened a ground breaking synth in
more than 3 or more months. Then the mind adds the purchase costs together and do we
    get hit with buyers remorse?

Not me. Every purchase distracts me from the new $200-1000 hardware gadget I'd be coveting. Distraction has it's own rewards.

I've been listening to some of the audio demo's for the Rig Libraries and there are some
that really speak to me. I'm waiting for some "sales", however since the prices tend to be
around the $20 mark and are not my impulse purchases.

  • I'll be quite ready for black Friday sales with this app!

    I looked into it:

Desktop THU Full = $260 gets you a discount of $60 on IOS down to $50.
So, $310 would let you have all the modules on Desktop and IOS and the right to
purchase (some?) Rig Libraries for $1.

On the App description page the truncated IAP listing many rig IAP's as costing $1 but none of them show pricing less than $18 in the actual app. I was hoping I could scoop up some
Libraries for $1 but not yet.

I don't think I'll ever be the $260 desktop or $110 IOS Full customer. I just don't need that
many amps to pull (or learn) from. I guess a session player would consider it the costs of being properly outfitted for any session.

Is anyone else hooked on the Tom Bukovac YouTube videos?

  • @McD I haven't even installed the iOS version.. too big for me.. maybe when I clear up some much-needed-space on my iPad.. probably start from scratch + dump it all.. install what I need as I go.. TOO MANY APPS..
I suppose the $1 Rig deals only apply after you've bought that particular desktop Rig Library.. good if you're invested on the desktop already.. or plan to be.. wanted to point it out in case any desktop owners weren't aware..
I too don't need ALL that..

I believe it was you that turned me on to Tom's Homeskoolin' channel.. that is one talented guy.. great attitude + chops + gear to die for.. good community there.. Yup.. good stuff!

@McD Agree 100%. I’ve pivoted from bulky amps and pedal boards to iOS guitar just in the last year, having skipped desktop sims all together, so I never got to invest in Bias, Amplitube, Tonestack etc... I now have the Overloud Full Pack, all the Nembrinis, GS Vintage Clean, GE Labs, and several fx/eq/sat bundles. It dawns on me while playing through Overloud this morning how awesome and massively daunting this collection is, and how hard it must be for people to pull the trigger and invest when they already have so many sims. Then I realize that going to the store and buying JUST ONE of the pedals in this collection would cost more than the entire full pack. Furthermore, using several instances of such pedal as AUv3 with different settings is like owning the pedal 10 times over, whereas having the actual pedal means bending down and adjusting the settings over and over just for one link in the chain. You’re right that there is a moment when you realize you’re scooping up too many apps that you may need a lifetime to sift through, and buyers remorse could set in... I don’t feel it. I’m certainly overwhelmed by the choices, and I appreciate the frugality of many users, but I’m also recognizing the ridiculous and inherent value while simultaneously supporting the developers I believe in. 22 amps ala carte equals the price of the full pack, it’s a no brainer for me. Same with the other brands, the value is there so it just comes down to quality, stability, and personal tastes. Regret is buying a $1000 amp or guitar you don’t need...

However, while I set out to buy several rig bundles this morning, after playing through the full pack, I didn’t pull the trigger. I’m so satisfied with the sounds I’m getting building my own chains and from the presets, I don’t feel that I need the rigs at that price point. I totally see how valuable the rigs are, but on the other hand, they are basically a collection of specialized presets captured using real amps and IRs instead of presets made from Overloud’s own sims. I get the appeal but they are also crafted to be used as presets and less flexible than building your own chain. Don’t get me wrong, I want them, but much more likely to get them at half price. I’m also looking at the second Fender bundle in Amplitube, waiting for GE Labs to be more stable, but frankly I think I have all I need.

  • @JoyceRoadStudios, from personal experience, I can tell you when it comes to ios apps — you never have all you need! 😏

For years I've purchased every new ToneStack full update package and still haven't managed to demo all the amps there — yet alone the massive collection of pedals.

I've done much better with the Amplitube packages, and although I'm probably in the minority here, I really love the tones on the Orange amp collection. Fender 2 is nice as well.

Now I have GE Labs, Nembrini, and the free Th-U amps, and although I haven't explored the Overloud set, I'm certain I'll spring for the full package if it goes on a Black Friday sale...

BTW, welcome to the forum! You have provided many great contributions to the group and often ask some rather intriguing questions. Glad to have you aboard.

    I think that's a first. 100%?

I invested into ToneStack and got the whole enchilada and then forgot about it while I
got addicted to using AUv3 FX with ReAmp.

@SNystrom Thank you, I’m glad I found the forum. Yes I re-read my last phrase and laughed, I’m embarrassed to admit how much money I’ve spent on apps just in 2020.

After recording analog for many years, I began my iOS journey just last year, and with GarageBand like most people. Loved the drummers and some instruments, but hated the mixing and bussing deficiencies, guitar amps seemed blurry, and I couldn’t stand the fact that on iOS GB normalizes every export and there’s no way to turn off this feature. Made it useless for me, though I still use the drummers to export stems (kick, snare, and two copies of merged toms/cymbals/hat for a classic “4 mic drum set up”, convert kick and snare to mono in audioshare).

Then I spent two months just on learning Auria Pro inside and out, only to find out that when my new audio interface arrived AP doesn’t recognize it. So while I waited for AP to fix the bug I’ve had to pivot to MTD, CB3, AEM, Zenbeats, and then began spending on literally everything. AB3, AUM, NS2,
FAC, Bram Bos, FF/TB bundles, and many others have become indispensable to me, and I’m also stubbornly learning and getting my ass kicked by Drambo and MiRack. Through all of this I discovered the forum, first as an observer for many months and recently as a participant. All the answers to my questions and problems exist here both today and in archives, and for that I’m thankful. Hope to be of use to the group.

I purchased THU Full on Black Friday sale last year. The price was $160 and all rigs on sale are more expensive than you see them within Overloud on iOS.

I have several rigs that was purchased on desktop and all of them could be purchased on iOS for $0,99 during the summer.

  • I dug into the "American Classics" Rig Library and started tweaking the controls. I was way off in my assessment. There are some great sounds in the "American Classics" Rig Library
and the controls can help you tweak any of the rigs from clean to distortion. There's a good selection of Amp types/vendors represented too.

I wish @overloud would release an LE version with 2 or 3 decent guitar/bass amp/cabs with no store, for people that don’t want bombarded with a zillion options ;-)

The Rock, Metal or Funk+R&B bundles for $18 get you there with a nice collection of Amps,
Cabs, Pedals and FX... about $60-80 worth of modules if purchased ala carte at $5 each.

Just using it as a free amp and using it's AUv3 capabilities to use FX and Cab IR's you might already own is also a great plan.

Mooer's GE Labs product gives you free access to every module they have and only charge you for the capability to save presets. You can get pretty good at building rigs
by hand and never need to make any presets but they will sell you 2 slots for $5. For my
    money OverLoud sounds better.

But watch all these vendors for sales and stock up if $'s are being watched carefully.

    I feel you! 👆😉
I've been buying plugins, amp Sims (nembrini), synths, loopers, fx... I haven't played a note in months!. It's like I'm building my dream rig so when I actually get to do done music it's gonna a be a wonderful piece of cake!.
I'm curious... What DAW did you settle for?
I was using BM3 but fell in love with Zenbeats (the looks).
Sorry I'm completely off-topic... I'm gonna get Overloud straight away.
In my phisical setup I play a CGB with an octaver (subN'Up) to do a guitar/bass double route thing. Are the octaver/pitch shifters any good?. Polyphonic?. Should I get the full-fx IAP or do the octavers come in other packs?.
Can't wait to try it. Really enjoyed reading all your comments.

I got the Funk pack which comes with the Octaver and Wah for £17.99 (plus more amps and effects). I've been using them mostly with the free Fender amp. Sounds great to me, a joyful pleasure at every pedal push. Individual pedals are £4.99 each.

  • edited July 2020

@tahiche the octaver/pitch shifters are definitely good. There are several of them though, which is why I’d recommend the All FX bundle, it costs about the same as 4-5 ala carte pedals, but there are like 6 or 7 octaver and harmonizer pedals alone, not counting all the other fx you’d get. If you really want just one or two pedals, then I’d go to the pdf list of all the offerings and read the description of each pedal. The other bundles like Funk or Rock have combinations of select amps/cabs/pedals, so you can click on the list that each offers as well. I’m not familiar with the octaver/pitch pedals available in Bias or Amplitube etc... but I would assume Overloud’s are as good or better.

For octaver and polyphonic I absolutely have to mention FAC Chorus. One of the presets is called “Fifthiver” and it’s one of best and most beguiling octaver/pitch effects I’ve ever heard, and it’s very customizable. In general I’d say the FAC apps have some of the best resolution and sound quality on iOS.

Also in Tonestack the “Doom n Gloom” factory preset is a fantastic octaver sound, and the app is on sale for only 99 cents right now. Only IAA atm however.

Hope that helps! More soon regarding DAWs, must go change a diaper, wife giving look of death. In short, at the end of the day everything ends up in Auria Pro for mixing and mastering. I love the mixer in AP, it is beautiful and professional. However my workflow for arranging, sequencing, and composing is a patchwork of at least 10 DAWs/modulars, and that’s just how it is for almost everyone on iOS. Either I import stems into AP, or pipe in tracks into AP through AUM or AB3. Both my audio stems and midi stems are exported and imported as wav. files, so my midi is converted to audio. Don’t use Beatmaker 3, my understanding is for audio it’s more sample and loop based rather than timeline. tbc!

I have to agree that the All FX Bundle is a good value with 58 FX for $22. I compared some of the FX against my favorite AUv3 FX apps and they compete favorably. With AUv3 capability I can use them on multiple tracks in AUM too. It's like AudioEffx with dozens of FX types.

  • Yeah, I totally agree, Professor McD.

The hidden jewels in most of these amp simulators is the pedals that go with them.

Most developers have spent a ton of time creating replicas of many classic pedals.

I was adding the Uni-Vibe pedal for AmpliTube to Soundmaster (with Saturn 2 as a pre-amp) and suddenly I sounded like Robin Trower!

    Totally amazing...
