    I’ll attempt to do a quick TL;DR for @kinkujin

This is not an exhaustive list, but Atom 2.0 includes all the features of Atom 1 plus..

    • Midi import/export
    • flexible clipboard (for copy/paste between instances)
    • Non-destructive and in-depth ‘per note’ processes such as quantise, swing, scale-conform.
    • Global swing, probability, and decimal playback speed controls.
    • Novation Launchpad integration (for clip launching and more..)
    • Highly-configurable synced and un-synced launch options (launch by midi note/midi cc, on/off/hold/loop/release and much more)
    • A modular design that supports creative use cases (one atom triggering another, as one example)
    • Extremely accurate midi timing.
    • Hyper-optimised code that uses miniscule CPU and RAM (even on older iPad models)
    • ...and these are just the features I’m allowed to mention ahead of launch :)

  • yes.. there’s definitely more than I’ve mentioned so far.

    Wink.

  • @tk32 or anyone on the beta... do you know if Atom2 will remember the scale that you set? I set a scale in Atom and then next save my session in AUM and next time open its back to init.

Yes, Atom 2 presets and exports save absolutely everything now, including the selected scale.

    Enjoy your break blueveek!

  • @blueveek said:
"I don't know" is an answer I've grown a bit weary of myself. No, I don't like it either, it keeps me on my toes, and makes it hard to decide when something is good enough. Makes it difficult to know when to stop. Despite that, it's no secret that I've been aiming at a late 2020 release. While still technically achievable, there's two reasons informing what I'm about to do next.

The first one is simple. While everything is rock solid with the latest beta, there's a couple of key features that I'd really like to get right from the start, especially around automation and integration with AUM. This is important, because it'll set the tone for how the workflow feels like. So I'm after a bit more iteration and experimentation, instead of compromising and releasing something that might change later: you'd be surprised at how many alternative versions of every little thing I've tried out in Atom 2; users would go mad if I did this kind of prototyping publicly.

The second one is also simple, but actually weighs in the most for this particular situation: burnout. I need a break. Spending every last bit of my free time developing Atom 2 for over a year now, is taking a toll. It's for the best (for my own health, but also the quality of what I'm developing) for me to take it easy for a couple of weeks.

In principle, I should be upset about this delay too: missing Black Friday and Christmas isn't "smart". Heck, this entire thread isn't "smart" – you'd be surprised how sharp and persistent of a drop in sales an update announcement can make, especially when the details on how the update will come are cloudy, as well as compatibility issues with version 1 being likely. But I still think it's a good idea to keep the ideation and iteration process public, so I appreciate the conversation.

What I got from each one of your comments is excitement and anticipation. I hope what you got from all my replies is: it'll be fucking worth it.

It will only be worth it if you feel happy once it's done. I don't mean happy with the released version. I mean, just... happy. This is software. Yes, it's important to you and to others, but it's not what life is about. Life is about connecting with others in ways that make you glad you have.

You owe no one here an explanation or an apology. Things don't always go to plan. Ask Michael to take the thread down if it's becoming a mill stone and just post updates in their own threads.

Take as long as you need. If it's as awesome as it sounds then no one will mind. And if it ain't? Well, that's ok too. :)

Will launchpad mini ( the new model) be supported on Atom2? I mean the mapping

  • Pls someone can confirm this ... I’m sitting here with an open purchase order> @Sergiu said:

Launchpad mini MK3 is definitely supported.

One of the beta testers is using this model.

Just be aware the mini launchpad's still need a powered hub (if your iPad does not have usb-C) and the mini models are not velocity sensitive.

  • I can’t wait for this now and to get MIDI import - we just opened our stocking before midnight, and I found an iTunes gift card in there! I bought Notion (and a few other things), and have been scoring a piano part. It will be great to take parts from Notion and import them into Atom!

  • Thanks, the mini is fine for me ... plus I purchased the gridinstrument that allows me to set scales without using the computer

    Any ETA on this release...?

Don’t know why I’m feeling ‘afraid’ to ask... but.. ..anyway.. It will be nice to have this beauty.. Import from DropBox, etc.. Quantize/transport to key/scale.. export to desktop..sweet..

BTW.. Nora is a Gem (on Desktop)...

It doesn't need a powered hub, it needs the powered CCK, I think it is the same for the X, I will check.

thanks for the correction. this is correct.

I use my Launchpad X via the powered CCK (official Apple lightning to USB 3.0 adapter)

  • Yes, I got the mini and no power hub needed.

Happy new year! Hope everyone got the chance to wind down, or at least take some time to do more of the things they wanted.

I'm back on it, and the testing has resumed. New builds which use the new AUM APIs that Jonatan and I agreed on/ added in December are available for the beta testers. As usual, I wish I could be more precise on the ETA.

Can I ask how much Atom 2 will be? Same as version 1? Thanks. And what will the minimum iOS version be for Atom 2?

Check out this comment from when the thread was still young.

The minimum version will be iOS 12.

Just hearing you’ve restarted development has brightened up an otherwise pretty shitty day
