MidiSequencer v1.5 Update.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/midisequencer/id787934896?mt=8
Whilst we are all waiting for audiobus 2......
MidiSequencer v1.5 submitted to Apple. Special thanks to those involved with the demo and providing feedback
Here is the updated summary & list of enhancements - it's been vritually rewritten from the ground up:
MidiSequencer is a new and exciting way to trigger your favourite IOS coreMidi synths to produce more experimental sounds than
would normally be possible using existing sequencers and keyboard playing techniques.
With an ability to run at extremely low and high tempos (1 to 1020 BPM or more) midiSequencer will produce sounds from your synths
of a more ethereal and psycho-acoustic quality (feathery trills and bass rumbles) alongside the more traditional music sequenced patterns.
Aimed firmly at live & studio performance for both profesional & amateur, every effort has been made to make changes whilst playing.
A Cycle button is available to delay changes until the sequence resets allowing you to be less accurate with your timing. This includes
loading in completely new patterns or changes in key.
Rather than work in retricted tonal harmony, midiSequencer also has 42 tonal keys (including chromatic) with enharmonic note names making it
easier to work in exotic keys.
Each of the 16 steps can be individually configured for note, velocity, length, midi channel, and up to 4 independant midi controllers.
These controls can be set using sliders which can either be dragged or drawn on screen by hand or by using randomising functions.
After playing a step, flexible routing options exist on each step to allow you to jump out of the normal loop patterns enabling you to
build up small sequences out of the available 16. This is also interactive during play.
Flexible routing allows virtual & network sessions and all midi is now based on the excellent midiBus library for rock solid midi clock.
Inputs & outputs can be individually activated, have clocks enabled and also include latency for synchronising with external higher latency
equipment (e.g. softsynths on your digital audio workstation). MidiSequencer will also listen to external equipment and stop/start on midi
clock.
Midi input is also possible with the ability to record incomming midi channel notes, velocity & CC's into midiSequencer. During play your
midi input will transpose the sequence currently playing.
A performance rollout panel exists for you to quickly load & save ideas into snapshot patterns. Up to 20 are available in a bank which
can be saved to disk with a name, date and a description. These files can be exported & imported using itunes file sharing or via email.
Sequences, as well as being played in regular intervals (stepTime) can also be played in legato mode (noteTime) where you have fine control
on note length to achieve complex rhythms.
A variety of ornamentation are available to add colour to normal notes. Repeated notes (2,3,4 or 5) give ratcheting effects whilst mordents,
appoggiatura & acciaccatura add a more baroque feel.
All aspects of midiSequencer have been made to be modified during play - including synchronised file loading, tempo changing and step
redirection. This together with fine control on midi messaging to your synths, gives you a new way to enhance your enjoyment of your
favourite synts.
SPECIAL NOTES :
1) iOS 6 or greater only, so iPad 1 not supported.
2) This app makes no sound (although it can send/receive midi to coreMidi apps you have installed on your iPad).
3) To communicate with external midi equipment you will need a suitable iPad midi interface unless you use the Midi Network sessions over wifi.
What's New in this Version Major Enhancements:
Completely rewritten to use MidiBus library to get rock solid midi clock, messages and OMAC & enable future features (e.g. sysex & MTC).
Now have 4 optional & independant midi controllers per step.
Improved graphic performance on most controls & app switching (50% less CPU).
Device panel allowing individual device(network, virtual, midi interface or app) setting of active(on/off), midi clock(active) & latency.
Latency per interface from 0 to 1000ms for manual synchronisation control on external equipment and slow apps
File save/load/rename/delete of working bank = named file of 20 snapshots + user entered description
Skip buttons brings up moveable panel for easy changes during play
Introduced note conform to scales (chromatic, major & harmonic minor ascending) with enharmonic note names
Increased gate% to 400 to allow extended note on (and therefore overlapping note play, longer/shorter ornaments etc)
Clock multipler - now shows all 4 options at once for multiples
Ability to draw controls using swipe and instant place using double tap (both optional via settings)
Banks can be shared via email and managed externally via iTunes file sharing.
Minor Enhancements:
Clock multiplier keeps same (if possible) tempo - will clamp to max in range(0-255,0-510 in steps of 2, etc)
Performance rollout panel (invert key rotary and ornaments on/off & snapshot load)
Added new ornaments: Acciaccatura, 2 & 5 tuplets (so now have 1,2,3,4,5 repeated notes in one step interval possible).
Midi enabled & device rollout at launch (use Settings to disable this if you wish)
Randomise controls option to restrict to within current min/max range(i.e randomise between top & bottom control values shown)
Nudge Left & Right now rotate sequence even during play or delayed until cycle reset
Transition from NoteTime/StepTime during play virtually seamless.
Ornaments ignored if BPM>=200
Loop type now picked from list
Tempo set with slider and decrement buttons always >0 to stop accidental stopping. Use Stop button for this.
Main Bug fixes:
Fixed bounce* logic with R & Rx resets
x in noteTime was halting sequence
Removed audio glitch in other audio apps when switching to background mode
sequencer no longer suspended after a few minutes when in background mode
Ornaments now use music scale tones rather than semitones
Improved control selection especially when near buttons for ipad mini

Yep, huge, been looking for that.
Thanks mgmg
I'm confused. Is this Genome you're talking about? I could probably figure it out myself by reading through all those update details, but I'm lazy and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Huge update, though, whatever it is.
Not Genome, this one i think

It's the huge update for Midisequencer that came out in January. It's a great app and just got better.
@WMWM is that the correct link? I will delete if it's not.
Your link is good. I added it to my post. Thanks.
No worries, didn't mean to intrude but I wasn't sure what time it is in your part of the world @mgmg4871
Impressive update, from the sounds of it!
@thinds Yes sir it is, if you sequence, you probably will like it.
funny that when i looked at it on the store there was a 3 star review saying it was awesome but would be better when it had audiobus???
Reviews like that must really frustrate developers
This just posted by AE, also I think its on sale, but not sure, I bought this a while ago so can't see price, just "open" button. Some of its functions covered in this vid.
Even if you bought it, you can go into the dev's apps section to see the current price.
No update or sale in the US yet, maybe it's coming soon?

Ah yes, thank you.
i watched the video and think the answer to this question is yes, but my old eyes might be deceiving me: when the note slider is adjusted, does it show what note a step is playing? it appears like it does, at the bottom of the column, but i wasn't sure.
my second question is whether the note slides can be bound to particular scales.
thanks in advance. i've been burned by so many MIDI sequencer apps, but this one looks like it might be pretty awesome!
The app is currently at $5.99, but the dev has stated that the price will increase soon after the update.
He said price would stay the same for 1 week after update comes out.

Good tip. (Great, another "must buy ASAP" item. This month is killing me!)
I downloaded Little MIDI Machine (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/little-midi-machine/id394018004?mt=8) which is free and also universal. This app looks like a better version of that one. However, as @papertiger said above, it's easy to get burned by them.
It's also hard to use the note sliders in the one I linked above - how easy is Midisequencer to work with? Do the letter note indicators (D-2, F-1, etc.) underneath the slider change to show what note you have set, or is that just the base note?
I'd probably be "in" on this for sure but I actually have more synths (and memory power) on my iPhone, and this app is iPad only.
Any other affordable sequencers? If you want to spend twice as much, here's another iPad only one I've heard good things about:

@papertiger I know what you mean about being burned by sequencing apps, I had that experience recently with another app. Personally, I don't feel burned by this one, although ymmv. For its price/feature ratio, I took the plunge a while ago.
First answer is yes your right, it's displayed at bottom and on the right
I do not have the update yet, but mgmg's description above may shed light on your second answer. With the current version, I do not see a way to, although someone may say I'm wrong.
I am intrested to see this redesign of its midi clock as stated above. I think this app went relatively unnoticed (mostly). This is its first update to this app and a rather huge one, he must of been busy. We'll see how it turns out.

thank you very much, @wmwm. appreciate the thorough response. It may sound silly, but I just can't read very long posts without line breaks like the one @mgmg posted. I really appreciate that he takes the time to post the information, but it's painful to consume when it's in that format.
for $5.99 I might just take the plunge. At least it looks less fiddly to use than Genome MIDI Sequencer (let's work on names for apps, shall we?!) and the CC automation looks easy to use as well.
Think I found my iPhone solution - Xynthesizr for $2.99.
http://forum.audiob.us/discussion/3622/xynthesizr-1-1-is-out-now/p1
I'd seen it discussed here and on other blogs, but it looked like a toy to me. Now that I understand what a midi sequencer actually does, it's no toy. The available in-app synth sounds are actually pretty good, but this thing loves being paired with Cassini or other VirtualMIDI compatible synth apps that have nice bright leads.
MidiSequencer looks cool, but I think I can do most of the same stuff with Little MIDI Machine (free) if my goal is just to set a BPM and come up with stuff with pitch slider knobs.
@StormJH1 said:
Xynthsizr pairs up real well with seekbeats, start, stop, tempo, etc.

Good to know. Will purchase soon.
That video makes me wonder why devs don't bother to make good videos for every product. The feature list is good, but it didn't really explain what the app does as well as this did.
It wasn't totally clear to me in the previous version that CC record was a feature. This is actually more interesting to me than recording notes or velocity. Having 4 CCs is pretty rad.
^ you could really have some fun abusing a Nord in drum mode using the CCs...
@supadom said:
I love how every discussion here that starts with "I just bought a great app and am happy" leads to response of "Here's another great app you need to buy!" Haha. But that's a good suggestion - Seekbeats is actually buried on my watch list - I just have almost a dozen percussion apps right now so I'm shifting my obsession to synths and midi presently
Just tried to buy this and the store reports "unavailable, item is being modified" so I am assuming update is imminent.
I was able to buy with no problems.
Same here, and I'm looking forward to the update. Works great with the ISem, but could not get it to work with the updated IMini at all.
I was able to buy it last night as well, with no issues (US store)
