It was just Apple messing with the store and raising the prices. Available now at new Oz price but no update.
@audiohub: that's one of those Virtual MIDI misfires. iMini'sVirtual MIDI In doesn'twork, and midiSequencer as is just sends to all VM Ins it can see. I believe more slectivity in MS is partof the in-flight update. That. should fix it.
General note: iSEM atutomatically listens to MS on start up the first time you run them together. But MS also automatically connects to iSEM. So beware this means duplicated MIDI. Turn MS OFF in ISEM MIDI dialog.
Thanks for the info!
I love this app, and am certainly looking forward to this next update. I'm also hoping that the IMini midi gets sorted out as well, at least up to the ISem level.
Are both of these apps from the same developer, or different developers and just released through Arturia?
Different devs.
Hi, I'm the developer of midiSequencer - just discovered this thread...
@buska - just reminds me I need to add audiobus sdk to join that impressive list of apps you can add with the + key! I held off adding audiobus earlier as I didn't think midi only apps qualified... next version will be audiobus.
@WMHM - not on sale, but rising to the normal price for a app of this kind.- I didn't feel the first version good enough. V1.5 out soon is at the old price until 14th April (or a week after launch whichever greater). Still cheaper than Genome & Thesys.
@papertiger - final midi out (step note+master transpose) is displayed on the bottom right. With v1.5 you have music scales - so notes are conformed to fit the scale you pick (another video shows D major, so C3 drops to B2). I aim to support more scales in the future but for now just chromatic, major & minor (it took me too long to check enharmonic spellings!). So pentatonic, wholetone, Japanese etc will appear as free upgrades.
@papertiger - you can now draw the midi CC's (notes conform to scale) and double tap(optional in settings) - so much easier to use.
@daveproper - because I'm a coder and tester not a video editor. I agree this video just showed some of the features and didn't cover the use of snapshots to load sequences on the fly or at cycle reset, splitting sequences using the skip logic, use of the racheting (the magellan patch on the 2nd video doesn't do fast notes!), and lots more features. I now have a new video camera so will be producing a series of tutorials to explain this better than a manual. But you are right, recording midi cc is useful - it can record notes, velocity, midi channel as well - and you can selectively switch these off. If playing the sequence, midi in transposes the sequence. Hope someone finds a use for 4 midi cc's per step!
@dwarman v1 has this issue - duplicate midi sends double the midi clock for example. Now I'm using midibus library (thanks for the heads up)- no such issues - rock solid midi clock.
Great, looking forward to its update.
@midisequencer thanks for being so communicative! can't wait for the update (although I'm having a lot of fun as it is...)
No problem. You won't be disappointed with the update!
Tony, thanks for your work on this app. Reading back on my comments here, I'm all over the place on it (at one point I'm buying it, then I'm waiting, then I'm trying different apps), but I'll attribute that to being pretty green with MIDI-related apps. After reading and watching the videos some more, however, I have a better understanding and appreciation for how this app works and how I could use it.
I really like the option to program it in scales (which looks like it is a new feature for the update). My prior concern about an analog MIDI machine was that I'm still learning theory, and it can be really tedious to move 16 analog sliders pretty much by ear into the proper key when the notes move chromatically. What makes it even harder is that the sliders themselves don't
I saw in one video that you can display a letter note (like D2, G#3, etc.) below the slider for each note. Does this change in real-time as you move the slider? Thanks again!
@StormJH1 I can confirm that in the current version the note changes as you move the slider. A simple, but IMO, absolutely necessary feature that, if I recall correctly, Little MIDI Machine did not have.

Great! And no, LMM did not have it, and it becomes VERY necessary
Also, I think I read his comments above to mean that the upcoming update (like, the one within a week or so) will be on the Bus. I'm not sure how other people use MIDI controllers, but I find it almost necessary. In fact, I have a few virtual MIDI apps that I can't really use until they have AB compatibility. The reason, of course, is the mini controls. With this app, I suppose you could probably start it up, head to Sunrizer (or the other destination app), and it should still be playing the sequence. So, you could start/stop recording from there.
But being able to start the MIDI control sequence from the same screen you start/stop recording from is useful and, for many, necessary. So while a 3-star review for an otherwise great app is bit harsh (mentioned above), I have given 4-star reviews to apps that really call for AB support but don't have it.
I'm more used to reading music notation than than midi note numbers, so yes the label changes to reflect the note name with the slider. With the introduction of scales, this is constrained to the scale, so you get Cx for A# major and Bbb for Fb minor for example.
Notes will snap to the correct note scale too using increment/decrement buttons - this is true for randomising functions (randomise full range or within current min/max or ramp up/down) and also where controls are linked (to drag all 16 notes with one slider).
Displaying Midi CC's, Velocity and channels you get numbers, with gate anything from 0 to 400%.
midiSequencer responds to midi start/stop clock messages so can be started remotely (and therefore used as a slave to another app or interface that sends clock signals).
At the moment, this all works well outside of Audiobus - the only audiobus feature to add is being able to launch it as an input - but it in no way stops you controlling your audiobus input/fx/output apps from the coreMidi outputs midiSequencer can output (you can direct which app virtual ports to output to or use midiSequencer's virtual port).
midiSequencer (v1.5) uses midiBus until Audiobus includes it's own coreMidi system for routing midi. v1.6 to follow very soon will add audiobus.
Fb minor? That's just making things needlessly complicated.... :-)
@midiSequencer said:
while that's true, a lot of apps either haven't implemented these functions or haven't done so properly. so I agree with @StormJH1 that AB mini controls would be much appreciated!
yep - but then leaving it out would create a gap! I will soon change the selection to be note (c,d,e,f,g,a,b) + flat/sharp/natural + type (major/minor/wholetone/....)
But I agree, it was a case of over-engineering on Fb minor, when e minor would be so much easier.
@papertiger - I agree AB mini controls are a must - I've left space on the right side of the screen for this.
^ yahoo! thank you thank you thank you! I will try to be patient. ;-)
will be very interesting to see how my virus responds to those super fast/slow tempos...
there comes a point when app & hardware synths can't keep up with the BPM - it creates it's own set of unique phasing effects!
I didn't realize AB allowed MIDI only apps now. That would be very handy.
An alternative for switching only might be (don't know if this is even possible) to create your own switcher panel by looking at the apps the user has connected via MIDI and use some sort of URL scheme thing to switch to that app (or maybe OMAC if available). If that's even possible, icons probably aren't.
Update is in store now
Update in App Store now. Sorry thinds. Missed your post because it went to another page.
No probs. Update wiped all my snapshots. No big deal for me but if anyone has something they need saving might be worth getting a screenshot before updating.
It wiped mine as well, but I expected that after reading your post.
I have not hooked this to external gear yet, but as far as app to app, it's working great. The stutter when app switching is gone as well.
@thinds are you seeing any issues with this version on your end?
I'm at work for a few more hours yet. Will have a proper look later tonight.
Update is working very well for me. I'm controlling IMini with all four CC's, and the timing seems very solid. I love being able to draw the curves with the pen. Looks like major fun ahead...Kudos Tony!
+1 awesome update.
Good the updates come through!
Yep - sorry - forgot to mention you lose your current snapshots, but now you get to save them to file and email (so you can load them via itunes file sharing).
Don't forget to check the settings for the app! In there you would normally want to set the double tap controls (to set to double tap position instantly) and mute midi on start (if you get annoyed about the devices panel opening at startup). There is also an animate option for animating the faders to position rather than jump.
Also, the manual hasn't been updated yet to reflect the new changes. It's on my own website so will update asap.
If you do like it please vote for it in the app store - can't have Trueyorky with the only review! It really helps independant developers like myself support this tool.
Not sure I'd call @Trueyorky a tool, seems like a decent guy to me...
