more correctly - added notes. Here is a work in progress screenshot (just to give you a feel on how it will look). You can select the additional notes by selecting the notes on a 2 octave keyboard.
You will be able to pick standard chords, but also deselect/select any other note in the range (there will be an octave switch).
I'm also not limiting the number of notes you can enter - although playing 127 note chords might tax even a ipad Air and your ears!
I need to think how to incorporate ornaments on additional notes, but the priority is to get the basic input via this screen done & tested rather than add frills (or is that trills??) to this now. As usual, users of the app are quite good with ideas on improving things so I don't want to lock this down yet!
@stormJH1 - yes more scales to come - but wanted to develop custom scales first to save me doing this all byhand - it's not just intervals (0,2,4,.. etc) I have to deal with but enharmonic note names. I can see why no one else does this now!
So no, v1.6 just adds pentatonic maj+min, wholetone (C,Db) to maj,min & chromatic.
Isn't Ionian = Major?
v1.6 does however have chromatic steps - meaning that you can now use notes foreign to the scale.
@midiSequencer Thanks for the price reduction... is it just for a few days or is that the new price for now? (I've been looking to pick this up, but currently waiting for another sale on iTunes gift cards)
@Busker - new price now, so not really looking to increase it anymore. If I do it will be to offer IAP goodies (e.g. for the rack), but lots of other things will be free
Hot damn, that chord screen looks amazing.
I want the rack! (Mostly because I want to use it to f/make a song mode).
@midiSequencer - Thanks for the screenshot! That looks fantastic. Glad that you have some chord presets because I'm playing with another app right now (won't name it) that has MIDI output, but the chord creation function is stupid frustrating. That interface in yours should be really easy to use.
And, no, I don't have too many synths that are polyphonic to 127 notes anyway, so no worries there!
yes, the keyboard makes it easier to enter notes!
I want the rack too. Here is a screenshot of where it is so far. So smaller slider section, middle section will be used to display rack versions of midiSequencer. As this is a control screen you will be able to maximise each to the normal midiSequencer full screen at the touch of a button and then return again to the rack.
@syrupcore - here is what it sounds like
Want! How does the bottom tempo interact with the individual rack tempos?
It acts as a master clock - all sequence clocks are then slaved to it (e.g 1/8, x2 etc)
The audio I posted earlier was 3 sequences playing at x1 in parallel with me noodling on the smaller faders for note & velocity of each sequence. Velocity is a was used to fade the sequences in - although I will probably add a rack velocity to make this one control.
There will also be a master transpose to transpose all sequences (which can optionally ignore the master).
Each sequence can be routed to another or multiple sequences allowing you to transpose and/or output to devices. So you can play synths from anywhere in the chain.
It gets better and better!
Would hate to slow down development for all the great new features, but will the manual be updated for 1.5 soon?
Wow. That sounds amazing.
I have music for airports on the brain as the first sort of thing I want to try with the racks - simple repeating musical parts that as a whole don't actually repeat.
Is that chords stuff going to be in 1.6? I'm most looking forward to MIDI control of snapshots. Using genome/BM2/cubasis as a meta controller that basically gives us song mode. Woot!
@Zymos. Update of the manual on the list of things to do when I get v1.6 out.
@Syrupcore - chords/added notes will be in v1.6.
You will also get midi cc32 control of loading snapshots - which will have it's own enable button on the Options Panel.
You might find the ability to mute notes useful too (also in Options panel)- so midi CC's only will be sent - great for sending to your synth to just control it whilst you play the notes.
Alright already! I would have bough this app nine times over again. ( PS I did buy it ) awesome features.
@audiblevideo - thanks - it's getting there - the rack will polish this off and finally allow me to sell all my hardware sequencers
I want to also add more polish to it later - retina graphics etc, but for the moment I'm focusing on functionality & usability.
@midiSequencer Any update on the update?
@RJB - yes. v1.6 will be submitted to Apple this morning!
Here's what it has:
New IAP
Chords and Added notes per step. Each step can now have up to 127 additional notes, each one can be adjusted for loudness and length relative to step note.
Choose from easy pick chords to which you can free add or remove added notes or even invert them.
Enhancements
Audiobus 2 supported with remote stop/start, goto step1, enable/disable record midi in & midi out.
Option to have one-touch load in performance panel (settings option)
Rewritten key scale picker. Added Major/Minor Pentatonic and Wholetone (C,Db).
Midi CC32 will change snapshot 1..20 (with enable/disable in Options). Works with cycle to enable synchronisation to cycle reset.
Mute buttons on front screen for all 16 steps (skip button x or Rx also mutes).
Steps can be forced to chromatic scale to allow foreign notes in scales. Label shown in yellow.
Ability to send midi CC's only (notes muted) for CC automation over keyboard play.
Can use control increment/decrement buttons with linked controls to increment/decrement all 16 controls
New ornament ratchet - 6 added (step sub-divided by six)
Repeat step (x2,x3,x4) - like Intellijel Metropolis. Works with muted steps, cycle & bounce too.
Bug fixes
Note names for invert key are now always chromatic rather than scale
Cycle button state no longer saved/loaded with snapshot.
Modified all rotary controls to follow touch to make selection easier. Snap to start/end values.
Midi Start was continuing rather than resetting to step 1. Two or more midi stops now reset to step 1.
Midi clock/start/stop/continue as midi in not disabled by front panel record-in button (which affects notes & cc's only)
Truncate long device names (e.g. iConnect2 + iCM2 ...)
attached is a picture of the new Chords & Added Notes screen.
Excellent news Tony. Looking forward to this.
That's great, looking forward to it.
Looks great, can't wait.
Tony, you could at least have made an effort with the update.
@michael - I know - must have more functions, must have more!!!
Still, got the important one - AudioBus
Here's some noodling I did this morning showing ornamented (ratcheting) chords.
v1.6 submitted to itunes. AudioBus will be enabled as soon as it's live, which should be around wed 28th May.
@midisequencer I like the drums beginning at ~3:11 hru about 3:33, very fluctuate. Could you explain how you achieved those changes?
To put it in another way; WTF did you do?
Nice, thanks Tony!
@WMWM just altered one steps ornaments whilst the sequence was playing.
All ornaments effectively steal time from the step interval so shorten the note to play other notes. Ratcheting is effectively playing multiple notes at the same pitch in the same time, so I was cycling through 2,3,4,5 & 6 I think just by pressing a button.
The mute button and the ability to jump to another step after playing comes in handy for rhythm too.
I have the bank file if you want - just let me know. I tend to use snapshots alot to setup something nice, save it as a snapshot, vary it then save as the next snapshot. Then it's just one click to load in a complete sequence whilst it is playing - which will also only happen at cycle reset if the cycle button is on to make those key & transposition changes exact.
The performance panel used to select snapshots opens at the top so this sequencer is alot about tweaking whilst running the sequence.
Awesome, thanks
