Actually, the supposed fix is not to load an IAA, but to view the list of available IAA apps in the host. Then request the list of AUv3. But perhaps you've already tried this.
Yeah, I did try this 😞
Thank you anyway! ❤️
Ugh. Then it is really broken, possibly worse than originally observed. The "missing" AUv3 problem was reported when iOS 14 was released, and the supposed fix was discovered soon after. This scenario of completely losing access to AUv3 after a while is more extreme. I guess we need to wait for 14.2 and hope. You should at least report this at Apple feedback, just so they know there's an issue.
So has anybody had a problem recording basic Audio with iOS 14.2? I put down a midi drum track and tried an audio vocal on CB3 and it got totally choppy&staticky. Same on Audio Evolution. Same on n-Track. The only daw that was smooth for 3 or 4 tracks was good old MultiTrack DAW. I guess I’ll have some wine and try Auria next..
Me too, thank God someone else is having this problem. I can't record a single usable audio track with my Jam+ interface hooked up to GB. Recording straight from the iPad Pro mic seems to work fine (not that anybody would ever want that), but anything from my actual setup is full of crackles and audio drop-out.
Ugh. The USB port on my under-warranty iPad Pro is fried, and of course, the replacement will have iOS 14.
Could someone please summarize current most important music making related iOS 14 issues. Like latest year I’ve chosen to wait a few months to make the jump and I’m still on iOS 13. Some bank apps start to ask me for iOS 14 for proper functionality (security), and it’s a bad moment for iPhone upgrade just because of iOS 14 issues, especially those AUV3 ones. It’s a bit scary, each year everything can be fully broken for a while... or definitely.
iPadOS14.2 is now GM and all the known and remaining issues with AUV3's seem to be fixed in that release...
...(If all goes well it'll drop next week).
Personally I've had no real 'show stoppers'. Some (but not all) apps have had issues recalling saved AUv3 states.
The one and only app that has totally failed to load AUv3's for me has been iMPC Pro 2.
GarageBand has had issues loading the correct AUv3 state when exporting audio (recalling sessions has worked though).
Other than that, no issues what so ever...
Cheers!
Also, having the auv3 issue where loaded AU in AUM suddenly show up in nodes as uninstalled. This is on 14.2 as well.
Thanks @Samu and @Model10000
I will follow this, hope everything will be fixed soon.
Um, glad I could help?...?..
Could this be a new version of Apple's long-running battle with audio sample rates, 44.1 vs 48 kHz? Could you try it by setting the other sample rate on your device?
@MWest This might explain why the device mic works, while your interface has problems.
Huh. Not a bad idea. I’ve been going all 48000 to make it easy to send from iPad to phone. Worth a try I’ll let you know
Guys stay away from the 14.2 beta, its a nightmare. 2 cents dropped.
F$*%###. I swear Apple.... why why. 🙁
@noob why you say this? I’m just curious.
Last beta kept popping up msg about upgrade but nothing to upgrade.. had it , changed back to 14.1
https://www.macrumors.com/2020/10/29/a-new-ios-update-is-now-available-ios-14/
Update: There's a new golden master version of iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 available to developers and public beta testers, which fixes the issue. Simply upgrade to 14.2 GM and the notices should stop.
But this hassle kept me away for now
Hello Crowd!
Checked on my 6th gen iPad, today upgraded on the 11'' Pro 2020. Going through all my apps (Music), and no issues!
To make it more clear; I'm disabling what's possible on my Pro. On the 6th gen, I'm doin' something like a stress test.
BIAS FX 2, JamUpPro and newset Rock Drum Machine (v6.0) doesn't work with Audiobus 2 on iOS 14.2 :-(
AB 2 is pretty old. Cd you try AudioBus 3?
Any phone users having other issues? I’ve got apps crashing, not loading in AB midi slots, AUM windows unusable...just what I’ve found so far. Should I bomb devs with notifications or just sit tight for next update. Pretty much unusable for much music right now ☹️
Can’t quite figure out the general consensus ....I am in no hurry to update to 14 - all my music apps are running smoothly so I’d prefer not to ... except last night I tried to send some music from iTunes on my MacBook to my iPad, and I get a pop up window saying “hey! You can’t do this until you update your software. That’s right mate, remember you’re eternally trapped in the Apple loop whereby you can’t do X until you do Z, but once you do Z you can’t do Y”. The apps I use most are TC-11, Layr, Gadget, im1, StepPolyArp unit, Shoom....can anyone confirm that any of these are issue-free in iOS 14? Cheers!
Be aware that iOS 14.2 introduces a new "health" mechanism that cannot be turned off and that will automatically turn down the device volume every once in a while to "protect your hearing" (if you're using line-out at full volume, that means once every few minutes).
WTF??!!! So I can't use my ipad to make music the way that I do anymore? Which is, use it like an instrument, by playing it directly into my Scarlett 2i2, which feeds into Ableton on my Macbook.... This is UNREAL. Thanks for bringing this to my attention @SevenSystems
Is this not just the small software update though? There's a situation where this is not a full scale iOS update... where it just downloads a bit of software and installs it... kind of like a firmware update. The situation I'm thinking about here happens even if you've updated to the latest iOS. I could be wrong though... my MacBook Air is an older one... maybe with the new Apple chips it's different?
This will probably only apply when you're using the actual headphone jack (or equivalent lightning-to-headphone adapter or lightning headphones), not when using an interface. So you might be safe!
(iOS doesn't actually "measure" the actual volume level in the room using a mic or equivalent -- it just guesses based on the device volume level and the contents of the output audio buffer.)
@SevenSystems Are you sure this applies to iPads as well as iPhones?
I haven't checked, but why shouldn't it? By any reasoning or logic, an iPad can be just as "damaging" to your hearing as an iPhone (even more so probably, because from my experience, iPads have a stronger headphone amp in them.)
Should've clarified @SevenSystems , yes, using the headphone out, into mixer, then out of mixer into Scarlett 2i2.
Oh. Yeah, if you update to 14.2, definitely try to keep the volume on the iPhone down and instead up the gain on the mixer. Otherwise you'll definitely be caught out by iOS wanting to protect you from yourself 😂
I asked because I cannot find the screenshots I've seen (Headphone Safety, Headphone Audio Levels) in Settings on my iPad 6, iPadOS 14.2. After all, I don't think iPads are much used as mobile music players, more stationary. Mine is playing right now over Bluetooth to a Yamaha A/V receiver. The iPad volume is always set to max, and I control the volume with the amp remote. I care about this as much as you do, but I'm trying to get the facts straight.
