“Conservatism”
Conservatism consists of exactly one proposition, to wit: There must be in-groups whom the law protects but does not bind, alongside out-groups whom the law binds but does not protect...
...There is nothing more or else to it, and there never has been, in any place or time. For millenia, conservatism had no name, because no other model of polity had ever been proposed. “The king can do no wrong.” In practice, this immunity was always extended to the king’s friends, however fungible a group they might have been. Today, we still have the king’s friends even where there is no king (dictator, etc.). Another way to look at this is that the king is a faction, rather than an individual.
As the core proposition of conservatism is indefensible if stated baldly, it has always been surrounded by an elaborate backwash of pseudophilosophy, amounting over time to millions of pages. All such is axiomatically dishonest and undeserving of serious scrutiny. Today, the accelerating de-education of humanity has reached a point where the market for pseudophilosophy is vanishing; it is, as The Kids Say These Days, tl;dr . All that is left is the core proposition itself — backed up, no longer by misdirection and sophistry, but by violence.
Goals:
So this tells us what anti-conservatism must be: the proposition that the law cannot protect anyone unless it binds everyone, and cannot bind anyone unless it protects everyone....

It’s kinda what we are really voting for this election
I remember a comment made a few years ago by a prominent conservative about the evolution of the Republican Party. He suggested that if Eisenhower was alive and was shown the acts of the modern two parties and asked to guess which one is the Republican Party, he would most likely pick the Democrat Party and be abhorred by the acts of the modern Republican Party.
There definitely seems to be a common feeling that the Republican Party has lost its way.
Spent the day as an (official) poll watcher. Things went smoothly, and I didn't see any shenanigans.
I'll go in tomorrow to early vote (dragging along my two kids, who are now both old enough to vote). If the world stops being on fire, I might be able to get back to hacking on some apps.
@Max23...yeah Werner was one of the 1500 nazis OSS brought in. No immigration controls then, just like with the so-called 911 terrorist given visas in jeddah saudi arabia witnessed by michael springmann.
Well done that man.
Just got my vote in
I got my vote in today. I voted in person even though they had sent every person in my state the opportunity to request a mailed-in ballot. The line outside the polling place was longer than I've ever seen it in 25 years. People are thankfully taking this seriously. For the first time in my voting life I was nervous completing my ballot because I have almost always voted independent and had to double check myself to make sure I didn't make a mistake just out of habit.
As a Trump supporter, I can say, the feeling is absolutely mutual.
I actually voted last week, but vote I did!
This right here. Wherever anyone's politics leans, the elevating of a figure or indeed an entire party to some messiah like status where they can be seen to do no wrong is both deranged and frankly terrifying. No politician is perfect, or indeed right all the time.
Whenever there's been complete submission to and absolute worship of some leader, despotism and tyranny haven't been far behind. It's gotta stop.
Whenever there’s been complete resistance to and absolute hatred of some leader, anarchy and lawlessness haven’t been far behind. It’s gotta stop.
I agree hatred has to stop
But: absolute resistance to a leader (George III, corrupt tyrant) is how we got this nation rolling.
If we’re talking about leaders, I’m curious to know where you think Trump has led us in his 4 years.
My issue with Trump isn’t about issues, we can disagree about issues and be agreeable about it. My issue with Trump is that he’s corrupt. Corrupt long before 2016, and spectacularly corrupt since.
So anarchy, the lack of governmental organisation shall we say, which ties in with laws, regulations etc and lawlessness, which is people continuously breaking laws (thus undermining that entire foundation upon which an orderly and fair society depends) without being held accountable, is to be seen as detrimental to a countries wellbeing.
I think we can agree to that. The caveat is that institutions, including government, must also be subject to those same rules. I don't think that's an unconservative position.
I believe when Biden’s corruption begins to fully surface, he’ll make Trump look like Mother Theresa. As far as where he’s led the country, he’s done an amazing job for all Americans despite being bullied, harassed and attacked at every turn by Democrats.
I was going to wait, but let’s get this party started...
@robertreynolds : the notion that despising a leader is somehow inherently wrong and the cause of chaos, I submit to you that some leaders are so egregious that contempt and utter rejection is the correct response.
I am not saying that Trump is Hitler. But can we at least agree that that it would be correct to despite and not tolerate Hitler or Stalin or Mussolini?
If that is the case then it is illogical to treat hating a leader as being an inherently wrong and chaos-inducing response.
You like Trump. Fine. But you are being unfair to people that have moral objections to Trump to treat them as not being entitled to a different analysis.
Personally, I find his having chosen to separate children from their families -- and lock those children up -- with the intent of causing so much emotional pain that it would discourage other people from seeking to come to this country (even for asylum) as morally bankrupt and sadistic.
You are entitled to your opinion. But casting those who oppose him and find his policies monstrous as being chaos agents is to be a chaos agent yourself -- even if that is not your intent. Perhaps, you can show tolerance for people that disagree with you and consider the possibility -- however unlikely you may find it -- that their analysis is correct. Perhaps, you could consider the possibility that the majority of Americans (who disagree with your position) are as sincere and good as you are.
Voted this morning. Fingers crossed now that we can turn this around and put these terrible 4 years behind us.
I agree with you, but you are trying to reason with a persecution complex by proxy. It’s a common feature found in most cults.
don't feed the troll...
I had to get my registration reactivated as a state I haven’t lived in for 3 years tried to send me a ballot and then my state inactivated my registration. Fortunately, after fixing that, it gave them enough time to mail me the ballot and I dropped it off at the ballot drop off box.
I hate to get into politics here, but I definitely voted to expand the light rail train system. Also, I voted for opening psilocybin therapy centers.
There’s no updating abandonware, the dev is offline, no new features or bug fixes coming.
It’s going to be some kind of funny if America falls to fascists, and Germany becomes the leader of the free world and last bastion of science and democracy.
Ps I voted. If it would’ve helped I would have psychically and physically smashed that Democratic button so hard it would have compressed both space and time enough to form a black hole.
No, this is all I can say.
