n-Track Studio 9 pro- What a sleeper!
I know there were issues with this crashing pre 9.1 update but how about now? 10 gigabytes of loops and sounds included w the pro $29.95 version. So much more expensive on desktop so it looks like a seeet deal. Effects galore, auto-tune and one of the best owner’s manuals I’ve seen on iOS. What’s not to like ? The GUI is nice too .

I’ve always wondered what it’s limitations are.
I remember when I looked at it before the 2 limitations were:
You can try it for free I think.
The UI is one of the better IOS UIs, the step sequencer is really nice and it has good audio editing.
Looking at the updated list it looks like they've addressed most of the things that annoyed me and have added some really nice changes.
@cian For sure.. This is all news to me .. I’m definitely gonna be checking this bad boy out!
The new update (3 days ago) now has midi loops to go with their audio loops. Honestly if you look at the app’s update history it’s pretty evident that they are really stepping up their game from previous years.
Thanks, @NoiseHorse , I didn’t even notice that.
@ipadbeatmaking check that out! It’s awesome .
Just been trying the free version. It does look much more polished than a couple of years ago.
I just bought in to the pro version for $29.95
I used this ages ago on desktop. Please let us know how you get on with it.
I love the name of the reverb preset « sizable room ». It’s somehow wonderfully middle England in its genteel imprecision.
So how's it going?
Being a mean bastard, I went for the 99 cent a month sub to try it. I’m enjoying it. The midi editing isn’t Nanostudio or multitrack studio, but it’s doable. The step sequencer is very nicely done. The GUI is attractive and pleasant to work in. A few long presses involved for those who hate them. I can’t find midi record autoquantize as yet. Instruments are basic in terms of control. Overall it’s much better than when I first tried it a couple of years ago.
Yeah I've always been intrigued by MTS, but it's quite a bit of money for something I suspect I wouldn't get on with.
I've basically come to terms with the fact that Nanostudio will probably never have audio or effect automation.
@purpan2 : The 99c version is the most basic. The suite is $4.99 per month but a one time purchase is only $29.99 so in two years or so you’ve basically bought it anyway. Plus look at the update history.. They’ll probably up their midi editing game in due time . Zenbeats has a great updating policy also but I just hate the UI
Not to hijack the thread but- MTS is free to try on Mac, PC. The main difference between these and iOS version is that the iOS version is more streamlined and a bit faster to use. For me it’s the best of all the linear iOS DAWs.
Why?
Just getting my head around it for now...I like it a lot ..
It’s not universal though..Feature wise MTR seems similar to n-tracks pro
N-Track is universal for Mac & PC too. It’s super easy to Airdrop songs from one device to another with all the effects, automations, mixer levels intact. Midi Instruments too as long as you’ve got the same instruments on both devices. If I don’t I just freeze whichever track and the audio goes over.
Yeah playing with the free version of N-track I was quite impressed. The MIDI editing on the piano roll isn't wonderful, but it works. The step sequencer is really nice.
The only thing that has kept me from pulling the trigger in the past were stability issues. Is that still an issue?
The reason I've never really pulled the trigger on MTS is that the effects slot/sends are quite limited. Which for a $60 DAW seems a bit strange honestly.
It’s $60? Nahh ....It’s half that
Feature set, dev support, stability > @Telstar5 said:
Deep dive the AppStore description of MTS, it’s really much deeper than almost all the iOS stuff. But yeah, no iPhone version...
Competition in that category is pretty stiff: Cubasis 3, Audio Evolution Mobile. Workflow and otherwise I’m inclined towards FLSM on iPhone (or iMPC Pro 2 lately, which is another workflow altogether)
Sure the base version, but to get feature parity you have to buy the iaps
Not sure if this addresses the issue: it’s true MTS projects can only have 2 fx returns, but up to 8 groups can be created per project...that’s in the $60 full featured version
Possibly. I think the other limitation is that you only get 3 slots on a track/bus, which I can probably work around but it feels weird that I would have to in $50/60 app. That's really the only thing that's prevented from pulling the trigger. The MIDI side looks good.
My one issue with MTS - no count-in for recording.
That’s bizarre!!!!!!
