Say what you will about ROLI (much of it deserved), but their MPE sound design is next-level. Their new Cinematic pack for Equator 2 is absolutely sensational (and currently on 30% off summer sale), if only they'd bloody update Noise to be able to use it, which doesn't look to be happening any time soon. As it is, you need at minimum to make a new purchase of ROLI Studio on desktop – my 1.0 version doesn't have an upgrade path to the current version with the Equator 2 engine – though at least you get your purchase price back if you then upgrade to full Equator 2. But my god, Equator 2 is amazing, with or without the add-on soundpacks (which also include a great synthwave pack and a Macbeth M5 recreation).
I’ve been using it as an AU in AUM, and just tried loading it as AU in Audiobus 3, and it’s fine for me. iPad 6th Gen, 2018, iPadOS 14.6. Might be worth offloading or deleting (offload should preserve your presets) and reinstalling? That’s fixed a few things for me that stopped loading after iPadOS 14.5.
Thanks! Delete and reinstall did the trick! I’ll edit the original post. Thanks again!
There's no doubt for me that many of the sound packs have several velocity layers (I am speaking of instruments, not loops). For mallets, I can reckon 4 layers.
@Paulo164 But there's no way to create your own velocity layers, correct? They're just baked into the sound packs?
No, there's absolutly no way to create your own velocity layers.
At least, it would be nice to be able to assign a per-voice low-pass filter to note-on velocity values. Maybe in Beathawk 3...
@Paulo164 It would be nice to have better descriptions for the sound packs, too. I see now that the Acoustic Drums description says it contains "multi-sampled single instruments with round-robins." Nothing like this is stated for Mallets.
@telecharge Agreed. You need to be careful with the demos because it is not always clear which sounds are coming from instruments you can play yourself versus sample loops with say a guitar playing some chords.

Maybe I was unclear, their tactics are to force people to Buy it Now, or not at all. It is short term false limited edition just a sleazy way to go about things I would rather not support that type of marketing. So I do not and will not, but some see it and fall for the FOMO B.S. many of you follow them and know the game but for someone new or uniformed it is a way to force them to make a quick purchase. Just nasty business. I see it for what it is is and yes it is greasy, sleazy and is in bad taste
The pricing is a gimmick to create the impression of limited availability.
Yes, by all accounts AudioKit are decent people and good fun. I personally think this is a misguided marketing strategy that puts them in a bad light.
Weeeeell… it’s just a way to give their brand name some cachet. It’s attention getting.
Misguided?
Possibly.
Greasy, sleazy???
I don’t think so.
The Audiokit Dev’s tried out an idea,
it didn’t work for them.
They tried to be the Rolex
of the iOS platform.
When it didn’t work for them
they treated it with good humour.
They also admitted, here on the forum
actually, that their apps at the time
they tried the limited platinum series
weren’t selling so they tried
the exclusive angle of marketing.
It backfired but to describe them as
being greasy???
Hhhhmmm.
It’s not like they are corrupt judges
accepting bribes from convicted
criminals, now that’s greasy.
Still, everyone has their own opinion.
If you don’t like em, you don’t like em.
Right then.
What’s next on the apps and sales...
Before it turns into a mega something else thread. Lololol
Lol.

Huzzah for Photo Bot! 🥳

While I can see why some find the AK limited edition thing puzzling...I don't understand the ill-will some have. AK are great folks who have made great contributions to iOS audio-programming...perhaps people don't understand that AK is primarily a project to create a free, powerful audio programming framework that makes it possible for people to write audio apps more easily...enabling even novices to write apps that they otherwise would not be able to create.
The paid apps help keep the project running. They thought the limited-edition thing would seem fun and lighthearted...which apparently some don't.
I don't get the mean-spirited posts aimed their way that crop up here.
It's not mean-spirited in the least. It is a genuine response to a marketing tactic.
Anyway marketing smarketing. I said I heard they are good guys and I’m sure they are. What we should be talking about is what’s going on with this 909 timing. Because it sounds great!…
What’s wrong with creating scarcity for the apps so their perceived value goes up? Considering the people who create their apps are mostly volunteers, they are free to run their organization however they want.
I don’t want to mire this thread in something that’s been discussed before. If I find the old thread I’ll send you a link. Cheers.
AudioKit Synth1 is free. The coding is free to create your own app with (and make money... none of which goes to this all volunteer org). They are unique, so it makes sense to lump them together with all the money grubbing iOS devs who sell their apps for ridiculously low prices (Sarcasm emoji).
I think those who are carping about $1000 apps don’t understand the mindset of people who would like to have a little fun while they mostly give away their hard work. Digitalism 2000, is wonderful, btw, and my favorite app of theirs.
Here's the original thread and to be clear.
I mentioned Rolex's because many people can immediately
see the connection between having something or not.
The Audiokit dev's had priced their apps at a very affordable price
and please note in the original thread that if anyone couldn't
afford the app at the time, they could've messaged them for a promo code.
Basically either you got it or you 'aint.
No stress, no drama.
