  • Regarding Readdle Documents. Is there a way to preview samples without it auto previewing down the list?

  • @yug In Secure ShellFish I sync'd my samples and made them offline. From SecureShellFish I can import to Drambo, and load a folder to FAC..... BUT.... in FAC Drumkit I can trigger the first sample (not the first in the folder for some reason). As soon as I move to the next FAC crashes. Are you having any issues there? [sorry for for all the questions]

@aleyas I gave Readdle Documents a quick go. I like the friendly UI. But what do you do once your samples are in Readdle as its the same issue in terms of not being able to open a Readdle Docs folder in FAC. Do you move the samples from Readdle to another location like On My iPad? As @yug says above it's either On My iPad or iCloud Drive only for Open in Place

Not quite sure I see the benefit yet besides the nice UI.

On another (related) note, using Finder on a Mac to transfer files into On My iPad would seem like the obvious way to go, but user folders are not visible. You seem only to be able to transfer into an app folder.

I see the problem you’re facing now. Yeah, Readdle is also grayed out when trying to import a folder to FAC (even though its sharing a connection with the files app). I should have verified that before suggesting it.

I tried using the load file(s) option, then selecting multiple files for import at once, but after selecting ‘open’, only one file was available in FAC. So I tried loading individual samples one by one, but I was only able to access the most recently added sample, none of the samples loaded prior. I guess the only way to browse samples in FAC is to import a folder.. hope some optimizations can be made to the sample loading experience, especially as many don't use the files app as their main sample hub.

I'm curious to see how SecureShellFish works out.

And @Approach I wasn't able to find a way to stop the next sample in a folder from previewing. Only way I could find was pausing the current sample

If you get a crash in a particular scenario please send me a message asap, I ll propose you to join the TestFlight program.

There is an ongoing beta with new features, some regarding the sample loader as well.

It is worth mentioning that when you select a single file in a folder (one you never used in FAC Drumkit) you will only get access to this file. The access permission is granted to the file you selected only and it's not possible to access all the neighbor files if you haven't select the folder by yourself earlier. So, if you already selected a folder once and then later on another session you select a file within this folder you will automatically get access to other files. The user has to grant access, FAC Drumkit stores only secured bookmarks, not a copy of all the file you browse.

Unfortunately, I don't have FAC Drumkit yet, so I can't test. I may get it later though

Auditioning offline samples in Files.app works great, no issues. I also use Secure Shellfish to sync my notes with a text editor app and I've never experienced any problems.
I believe it's Drimkit's issue which will be fixed. Happy to see more apps implementing this 'Open in place' feature

  • edited June 2021

@yug ok that makes sense. I can audition offline files in Files.app too but its slow compared to audition in AudioShare (separate issue)

I like 'Open in place', I like the syncing with SecureShellFish and I like the audition in AudioShare. Need a feature merge!

  • @FredAntonCorvest Sent you a pm with details and a screencast

Sadly for such a potentially useful utility AudioShare isn’t being developed to keep pace with iOS changes.

I’ve been using Auditor as rollover to preview files and then drag & drop to I.e. EG Pulse. Not as pretty but the workflow is effective.

To be fair to AudioShare - I’m doubtful that the behaviour of Auditor, using a tweaked standard file selector, could be implemented using a custom UI due to what iOS permits.

  • @MadGav Not a bad suggestion. With the green speaker highlighted at least you can tap to hear.
    Goodbye Audioshare
Hello Auditor (which I bought ages ago and haven't used hardly at all)
    Features merged!
    Thanks.

Yep, auditioning samples in Files.app is slow :( There's a trick to make it a bit faster: when the file preview window is open, don't close it by tapping 'Done' - just swipe left or right. Also, you can tap the list icon near 'Done' to quickly switch to another file

If only AudioShare supported Open in Place...

  • @yug Good tip. See above post about Auditor. It’s like Audioshare for auditioning files - very quick with green autoplay selected. Turn that off and then you can open in Auditor editor and then export your edited file back to folder. SecureShellFish with open in place and Auditor for preview listening and audio editing. Not a bad combo I think!

Just recently got FAC Drumkit ( thanks to @Jamie_Mallender ) and I’m totally in love with it. What an amazing app. I could go on for awhile about its greatness but… 2 of my 3 Fav apps so far this year are both drum apps, and this is one of them.(I’ve used this statement several times recently but every time it’s been true, lol) I do have one feature I would truly love to see, the rest is, straight brilliant.

It would be beyond amazing to be able to randomize an individual pad sound. Yea it’s great to design them with those awesome envelopes, but sometimes I really just want to randomize a sound quickly and tweak it to liking. This way one can dial it in, or quickly get some interesting sounds. A decent amount of parameters are exposed in AUM but I’m not sure it’s enough to generate a random sound using CC randomization. Maybe you could randomize an individual pad or all 16 pads at once. It would be a lot easier to build up some presets, and make this more accessible to those without synth knowledge. Ultimately I think a random sound per pad button would be a great way to enhance an already brilliant app. A cherry on top if you will, lol. I know you are a one man operation, so no rush, but if you could please consider this feature, I’ll be happy. Keep up the great work Dude. Your apps are inspiring, always look great, always sound great and are very useful. Thanks for creating this gem. Cheers!

  • I know it’s not always the best practice to feature request in a thread but I also wanted to gauge the interest of other forum members. To see if others were interested in adding this feature as well. If so please add your +1, or what-have-you below.

Isn’t “round robin” the typical means of incorporating randomness in a drum or percussion app?

For my money, I’d really rather the UI was redesigned to take advantage of the available space on iPads.

  • Just to clarify I’m speaking of creating a random sound for each pad in a kit.

You can achieve a round robin/ pitch change effect by slightly modulating one or a couple different parameters that are exposed in AUM.

  • edited July 2021

I wouldn’t say typical. There’s a bunch of different types of randomness. Round robin is basically a way to play a few different versions of the same sound or a similar sound, just slightly different, so every hit doesn’t sound exactly the same. It’s especially useful when doing dotted notes and triplets, to avoid the “machine gun” effect.

Round Robin- So if you are using samples, instead of one snare hit Sample, you might load 3 different snare hits that work well together, or sound similar, and then everytime it’s triggered it will play one of the 3 snare sounds, typically in the order you put them in.

You can always point Mozaic at it like this. The envelope parameters are not exposed but this is still fun for playing with new sounds while you tweak the envelopes.

That’s what I was thinking @gusgranite which script are you using midi-CC- randomizer, edit saw it in video.
yea a few options aren’t available to map. The waveforms as well. But this is a good workaround for now.. cheers!

  • Nice little AUM template I’m about to set up. I guess you just move voice to voice, ie Pad to pad, after you have something you like.

  • Yeah, i'd love more parameters for shaping the envelopes with LFOs.

I’m really glad you’re enjoying the app, I think this is one of the apps I’ve demonstrated that I’ll get the most use out of, I really do love it. With multi outputs and the potential for mixing and fx etc.. it’s perfect for me.

Asking for random features is like putting Legos together by carefully hewing to the instructions every step of the way. Learn to use the toys you buy, for my sake at least, so I can stop complaining about this on here. It is more rewarding than hitting a button 11, 3, or 57 times trying to find inspiration. Just because the apps are cheap does not mean that it’s simple, or that there is no value in exploring them.

You’re like a one-man anti random zealot. I don’t recall many others on the forum going around telling others how to “properly” create music. And further, your assumption that someone tapping a random button doesn’t also understand how to manually coax new sounds out of a deep app is flawed.

Not a flawed assumption at all. App has just been released (or maybe not even out yet) = immediate cries for a dice button. Why is that?

Just gotta trust the gut on this one

As long as the AU parameters are exposed we can work around it. No biggie.

Creating new starting points through randomization to then go deep and tweak is just a fantastic feature for reaching sounds that I do not think I would have naturally programmed from the init patch. Its just like starting from a preset (how do you feel about presets?). It’s also incredibly fun which is what this iOS sofa surfer is all about.

I know, I know, your anti-Rando @oat_phipps lol. It doesn’t have to be used all the time, but sometimes I want to make a quick kit, like RuismakerFM or something. Randomize some sounds and tweak to liking. I know this is a different app then that, but when I’m in song mode I don’t want to slow down to fiddle with every sound. Sometimes I just want a few unique sounds that I can tweak to my liking instead of dialing in every little thing.

I also agree with you to some extent, it’s important to understand how to make a sound, and there is tons of value in exploring this app. I get that. sometimes I just want to use it quickly and get some unique sounds fast. No one has to use the random button. It’s just another feature to make it more versatile, more accessible, and more spontaneous. Just another way to create. Also if you randomly get something you like you can then see how it was made by going through all the features. I love when synths/drums have randomize. I don’t use it every time but having the option to use it has many different benefits.

Most are exposed but a handful are not. This is a viable workaround. But since some parameters (ie waveform, envelopes) are not it limits the random ability via CC.

Mainly because the presets are limited, i love this app, but if you want to build up several kits quickly that’s one good way to do it. I just felt like, for me, a random button was the only thing it was really missing. It’s an amazing app, but a Rando button adds so many possibilities and benefits, that will ultimately make it a better app, and hopefully translate to more sales for the developer.

  • The way I see it, the rando button is an elegant display from the confident dev of the full range of possibilities in his algorithm and app design. Not necessarily for all users, especially if one has a narrow vision of the creative process/agency
