Anyone get this and have Stepbud? Feels like it covers most of the same ground?

Off the top of my head: It does, but in a somewhat different way. StepBud also has chords, but Mididreams does not appear to have this (MidiSTEPs from the same dev does have this). Lots of overlap between the two, both with fairly friendly but different UIs. StepBud may have the edge for all around features, but Mididreams also has Mididrums, a separate sequencer which has some mapping to various drum apps & hardware.

Wish list: I wish both had “follow” actions for their scenes/sequences - it looks like they both need to have this triggered by note, cc or pc. Wish there were robust settings within either app that did this (LK can be used as a dedicated pc sequencer for this task).

Yes lots of overlap. Stepbud has more features. They're both great. Both are fun and inspiring in slightly different ways.

  • "If all you have is a hammer"

They all inspire in different ways. Stepbud always feel awkward for me. Still use it and like it though.

  • Updated.. Fixed pattern switches..

    Thanks..

    No love for MidiDREAMS, sirs?

I would love to and I do have a copy, but for various personal reasons, I am having to seriously scale back the time I can spend on iOS stuff at the moment, sadly.

Well, I'd love to see this working in NS2 or CB3, but I'd also like to see you working as and when you wish. Best of luck to you.

Apologies. I was kidding. Just seems like this would be right up your alley. Recharge! Relax. Take care.

  • No worries and thanks guys! And yes, it is totally up my street haha

  • Also timing bug fixed. Great @artkerns 💪

This is the first I’m hearing about it but yeah, sure I could be interested in taking a look at that. It looks very useful!

  • Well, MidiSTEPs and MidiDream compliment each other well.. Would be nice to have MD scale feature in MS... and preset saving in app.. won’t mind paying IAPs for presets... Being able to transpose key/scale would make IAP presets desirable..

  • Is there not a way to choose octaves per step?

No, I’ve checked. Don’t see it. Maybe it will get added.

I figured out a way to do it by loading it as a midi processor in Drambo. It responds to midi input, so you can control the octaves with notes from Drambo’s sequencer. Pretty cool actually. Also using the drum part to hit Audiokit’s 909 with Drambo changing the patterns the same way.

Edit: there’s probably some advanced way of doing it with CCs which would be beyond me, unless someone would like to explain.

Yeah, it also reacts to the AUM keyboard if you want to change the pitch of the sequence. It’s fun.

Try using Scaler app part of the Rozeta Suite. That will force ant midi notes into your desired scale. It works a teat!

  • One thing I’d love to see is ‘Jump’ to step, so instead of skipping multiple steps you could tap on a step and it would carry on from there.

Yep... that GR-16 'Jump mode' would be nice... on MidiSteps too..

  • Has anyone figured out a way to set up probability sliders to do several things at the same time. Ses you can only do, for example, eother ratchet probability or mute probability. You can only choose one, you can switch from one to the other. But you can't do both at the same time. Or am I missing something?

  • 'step' and 'jump' pattern sync modes are not working for me. When these are active and a new pattern number is pressed, no change occurs. Can anyone confirm?

  • I'd also like to ask, are ppl using the probability sliders to send cc messages? If so, what kind of things are you generally using it for? Cheers.

Latest iOS 14.4.. Maybe a reinstall.I am sure it is working here..

    Edit.. Definitely is working..

  • That worked. Jesus, iOS is really a pain in the arse sometimes. Thank you

I think this would be extremely powerful in both MS and MD with all the skipping, resetting, etc, etc.

Question for anyone who has this App (MidiDREAMS).

I want to get this because it apparently has the ability to use hand played Midi Note input, as a gate, to trigger the play of the steps... Advancing/playing one step each time any keyboard key is pressed.

    Also, the manual says:

"Use either the midiSTEPs keyboard or the Audiobus keyboard to enter some notes into the sequencer. Just tap some notes in and they should appear."

To me that sounds like you can also enter notes into each step like an 80's step sequencer, where each single note played on the input keyboard will write the played note sequentially to steps, auto advancing, as single notes are played by hand.

Can you record notes into MidiDREAMS by playing in the notes, like in an 80's step sequencer?

    Thanks. :)

Maybe I am missing something but I think that is a mistake. You can do that with midiSTEPs. Maybe that was part of the midiSTEPs manual that accidentally got added to the midiDreams manual? If anyone knows otherwise please correct me.
