I thought getting Logic Pro was a foregone conclusion, not a debate.

so can we mark it as a fake source?

  • they didn't announce logic or final cut for iPad, just the new Pro

    But...Logic...

    😂

  • No jack input....

  • Prosser said logic on ipad would be announced at wwdc in June. Looks doable seeing as the new ipad pros have the same m1 chip as the macbook pro.

  • I’m about to preorder an iPad Pro 12.9” 5G 2TB...

Do I have to sell the house?

WWDC still hasn’t happened — should be in June. For all the insistence that LPX would be a terrible experience on a touchscreen, it certainly seems plausible that Apple ports it with some tweaks. Between Logic Remote and GarageBand iOS, the interface is NOT miles away from touch friendliness.

    Ha! Just 28000:- SEK!

    Preorder begins april 30...

  • We'll have to wait for iPadOS15 before anything revolutionary happens on the software front...

It is absolutely true that the new iPad Pro would be able to run Logic better than my 2011 MacBook Pro that I ran Logic on. It's not that it can't run Logic, it's that it won't run Logic and provide the user experience that Apple wants to present with one of their flagship applications.

    Extremely well said and summarized!

It would be completely stupid for Apple to develop a Logic-lite iPad edition, because it already exists and is called GarageBand.

I don't even understand how we can consider running Logic on an iPad while we can’t load more than 5-6 AudioUnit instruments without risking CPU saturation.

The entire discussion is based on the basis that iPads will be receiving a M1 derived processor that are very powerful and will allow iPad to run a software like Logic and run many more audio units.

It doesn't change the fact that we are currently unable to run a DAW on iOS with more than 5-6 loaded AudioUnits...

    This debate is pure fantasy.

Here, look at this, the number of tracks:

Try this at home with your iPad, at least 30 tracks with SWAM apps + audio + FX treatment and tell here what happened..

The day an iPad will be able to do that, then Logic will be ported to iOS. Not before.

Edit : I talk about a ~$1000 iPad. Keep in mind that the iPad is only considered by Apple and most people as a secondary tool..

I will try this with the new iPad Pro with 16 gig of ram and M1.
Not sure that intel Mac can handle as tracks as the new iPad. So should they stop using Logic on old intel Mac?😂😂

What do iPadOS15 bring to the table?

Any new revolutionary things to looking forward to?

I'm pretty ecstatic to have been wrong about them putting the M1 in. I still think it is going to be heavily thermally constrained compared to the MacBook or the Mini, but Thunderbolt/USB4 is everything I wanted out of the new iPad.

    The screen is insane too.

I also still hope that they don't bring Logic to the iPad and that they do bring MainStage. But, with the iPad able to hook up to large displays, there is a case for a very usable workflow with Logic on an iPad Pro. It will be interesting to see if they fragment the market for their own software between their devices.

No one has a clue until June.

Improving on what's already there, bug-fixes, cross-device compatibility, user-space device drivers and bridging the gap between iPadOS and macOS and likely removal of the ram-limit for AUv3 plug-ins things like that.

With a thunderbolt port people will likely want to connected UAD Apollo's to the iPad and without drivers it's a no-go.

    WWDC'21 will revel more...

I’m pretty happy you were wrong about the M1 also. Amazing achievement. I can think of nothing the competition offers that will even come close to these new models.

I wonder if the 11" model dimensions would make it throttle harder than the 12.9"

If the case for Logic on an iPad relies on the user hooking up a large external display, there's no case.

Ehh? You HOPE that Apple DON’T release Logic Pro for iPad??

I believe I heard them say a 6K external screen can be hooked up to the new iPad Pro.

You were only wrong this time. I’m in absolutely no doubt though that you know way more than I do about these things, and my being right was borne out of my ignorance over how hard it is to achieve.

  • @NeonSilicon said: I'm pretty ecstatic to have been wrong about them putting the M1 in. I still think it is going to be heavily thermally constrained

Ditto. There's an M1 in the latest Air and that doesn't have a fan and that thing is a beast, performance-wise. Looking good for the iPad Pro M1 I think!

  • Cool so hardware Mac - iPad is 1:1 now :)
Pretty optimistic to see the software gap being closed further on WWDC
LP and FC are close i can feel it 😜 and I will still feel it in 10 years if I have to

Don't give me any credit I don't deserve on this one. I am completely impressed by their achievement on this, but there are several non-hardware engineering things that had me convinced they wouldn't do this. Even if they did do it, why did they call it the M1 instead of the A14xxx? There are some good reasons to keep the A-series and M-series processors distinct in device families. That they didn't has me very intrigued by what happens at WWDC this year. Are we going to get a split in the iPad ecosystem?

It may all turn out to be a marketing angle, but it feels to me like they are telegraphing something with this.

  • Interesting. I assumed (having previous expected this to be called the A14Z or something) that the public and critical reaction to M1 has been so hugely positive that this would guarantee a ton of PR. However, the jump to 16GB RAM would also back up your telegraphing theory, they don’t usually even tell you how much RAM is in your iPad.

Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing that makes this interesting. Just putting the 16GB option in there is kind of nuts, but for Apple to state it on the tech specs like they would with a computer hints at something.
