I got round to trying Atom 2 and LK together this evening, with LK launching Atom clips. It works really well. There’s something nice about separating the arrangement from the clips. LK does clip launching very neatly, Atom brings the extra depth and control.

    Here’s a video.

I set all the Atom clips to ‘hold’ launch mode, and set the triggers to be an octave higher with each column, so first row would be C-1, C0, C1, C2 etc.
Second row would be C#-1, C#0, C#1, C#2, and so on.

LK clips are set to the same amount of bars as their corresponding Atom clip, with a long note trigger that fills the whole clip.

Hope this is helpful to some.

    Very cool 👍

I’m not too sure how to set you a note in LK to send to atom without hearing the LK note, as it is going to the synth via atom.
I’m trying to understand the set up process haha but it might take me a while

Tap the atom clip number in the top left and make sure ‘thru input’ is unticked

I hope the video helps @blueveek @giku_beepstreet as it demonstrates a repeatable issue you can hopefully instrument.

What an excellent video and report! From the video, it seems like the issue might be with the other plugins and not Atom. However, can you please send me the project or some way for me to reproduce this locally? If there’s a workaround I can add in Atom, I’m happy to verify.

    Sure thing. Here you go:
    https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0noKaA0AMlYrij4l9Njz4yxYQ#Atom-modulepro-crash_file

If Atom fails to load upon opening the file, just remove it and add it again to reinitialize the plug-in instance.

I noticed this not by copy and pasting, but just by saving a project with any Atom 2 instances would result in this behavior when trying to load it back up.

I've had a similar problem with Fundamental, but I figured out that it was because I wasn't saving fundamental's state as its preset. So i guess it had something to do with drambo not being able to recall plugin's state. Maybe it's something similar with atom.

  • Is Atom 2 not universal? I bought it on my iPhone, but it shows as not purchased on my iPad.

  • It’s Universal.

  • Weird. I’ll try rebooting the iPad and see if that works.

Just tap buy and it’ll tell you you’ve already bought it and can download it again.

No worries, a reboot did the trick and it showed as previously purchased.

  • Just left a review on the App Store (5 stars of course!), and encourage everyone to do the same as there aren’t too many yet.

  • Great app! Wonderful to see the improvements coming in version 2.02 for MIDI import (clip bars and multi channel). I’ve noticed that when you import a MIDI file it defaults to a 4/4 time signature regardless of the file’s time signature. I know you can easily change to the correct time signature manually but sometimes you don’t have the information or can’t easily figure it out. Could I be missing some setting or is this the way the app works? Thanks.

Yup. C'mon people. Make a quick few clicks and go help The Blue Man out :)

  • Awesome app @blueveek ! I really love it.. it's literally a work of art

There are a couple things I'd love to see tho

1a. The keys on the piano roll keyboard to reflect the key pressed on AUM keyboard or external keyboard.. Just a highlight or greyed a little bit. Helps a lot with orientation when manually entering midi for something like EG Pulse where you have to find the octave then identify the key to actually draw the midi on.

1b. Similar to the last one.. it'd be cool if the piano roll keys themselves sent out midi when pressed. Once again, for me, it just helps with orientation.

    1. Someone mentioned this and I think it was kind of confusing so I'll try my best to draw a picture.. If I record midi in @ 1x speed, the timing I played is the timing I hear back. Perfect. Now, I change the tempo value to .5x and everything slows down. Awesome. If I now play in additional notes to add to the pattern, the new notes aren't played back as I played them but rather played back as if I recorded them @1x and then slowed them down to .5x. This drives me nuts!! lol. You almost have to predict what it will sound like before you play it. It would be awesome if the note data was entered exactly as it's played regardless of the tempo multiple.. Hope that makes sense?

I know you're super busy and this will probably not be of priority but I thought I'd throw it out there because it would reallly enhance my workflow!

Thx for the awesome app! I look forward to seeing where it goes in the future!

  • Has anyone got any experience of using this for live midi recording/looping? I'm interested in the ease of doing this on the fly, with midi mapped controls for entering and exiting recording etc. Can recording functions be easily triggered like th eplay functions with a Launchpad (not that I have one.. yet) ... or other controller?
    thanks.

Concerning 2) IMO, best would be to have a Set Speed option in Process, apply to selected events.

  • Finally had an opportunity to have a ride on the Atom2 train. Really enjoying what I’m seeing so far. Looking forward to using it a whole lot more. Nice work @blueveek

    thanks.

The arm record and step input functions are automatically mapped for certain controllers like the Launchpad Mk3 series. They’re also available as parameters so you can map them to any other button or pad on any other controller.

More advanced functions for manipulating patterns (takes) are available in the UI. Not exposed as parameters yet, but that will come in an update.

Really cool. One neat trick, that may not be obvious, is that you can have repeated notes instead of a single long note to control the launch state of atoms. This would start and stop the atom clips repeatedly based on the launch note. Try it with drums for some crazy dnb.

Ha nice tip! I’m partial to the occasional slice of crazy dnb 😋

  • @blueveek @tk32 : quick bug report, two instances of Atom 2 running fine, go to add a third, get instacrash on the new instance and ‘the operation couldn’t be completed- OSStatus Error -3000’. Also reported via email. No biggie - these things happen :)

Are you on the 2.0.1 update?

  • @winconway Yes pt2, ok this is a simple but lovely one, put B3 in 64 pad view, add Piano Roll 2 to every pad, bam, Launchpad app but with B3s full sampler and browser and full AU support, ultimate performance tool, for straight up performance it is unmatched, even by AUM at this point, simply because of B3 audio support, this is a tool that makes AUM a monster, but it makes B3 a monster too :)

Sorry about pointing back to an “ancient” by now comment, but I just love this. Is there a video or something?. Would love to see this in action.

  • Sorry if this has already been answered, but I'm trying to test Atom 2 on Mac OS ( M1) and though the app says "Your Audio Unit has now been installed", I can't find it in Reaper.

It does not seem to be installed into "/Users/xxx/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins". Is there something special I need to do?

@blueveek : yes, I am on 2.0.1. Fwiw, I am now working on another track, no problems so far...

Is’t confirmed that Atom2 should work on M1?

The latest MacOS updates have blocked a lot of apps in this area (iOS/iPadOS-apps on Mac)...

No, in fact I've specified that compatibility isn't tested. I'd love to make it compatible in the future, but I don't have an M1 Mac.
