I'm waiting for a manual to make sure I'm fully comprehending all of Atoms features accurately.
There is one feature that is remaining "mysterious" to me, and that's the layer feature.
Is there more to the ghost note overlay from other Atom instances, or is there some degree of being able to interact with the ghost layer notes in other Atom instances, from the active instance?
When I examine the Layer feature I keep trying to tap on layers in some way that would make them to become active and editable. I'm guessing that's not a capability.
Anyway, just as a hypothetical concept. The Layer feature is making me wonder "in general about how all AU's in iOS work". If theres a function that allows for switching AU instances from one instance one to another, from within the same AU window.
I'm guessing it would be an Apple upgrade to AU functionality. But I think it would be cool in the case of running multiple AU instances in a single host, that instead of having to close one AU instance and open another at the host level. You could instead work in just one AU window, and have a way to choose which instance is in use in the "work" window at any one time. I think that would save time in cases where you don't need work with multiple open AU windows. To be able to work in just one window and choose which instance that one window will display.
There’s a few apps where different instances seem to be able to work globally somehow. Eg. Multitrack recorder instances all access the same audio ‘pool’
I’m also interested in how far this can go.
One day perhaps we’ll see the ability for an au instance to host a different au? Can vst’s or whatever do this on desktop?
I know I'm being dumb but could someone please show me how exactly I get my Launchpad X to trigger clips of atom 2 in Aum ? I can get it to send midi for editing but can't seem to figure out how to get it working like abletons session view.
Are there any workarounds to migrate my ATOM 1 work to ATOM 2?
Working on a video for the LP Pro Mk3. Will need another day or two though . Short version: If I plug in my LP and start Atom 2, the session mode starts up and I can start launching clips. Does the session mode start when you open Atom 2?
Same here not working as I expected it to at present?
Can you describe a little more what doesn't work? I tried this yesterday but it worked pretty good.
Well basically expected to press a pad that's lit to trigger a launch clip and it does not seem to be doing that. I can trigger scenes but not individually clips. I need too spend more time with it. Tried changing to LP and Ableton style.
I could not set record or transport to work either
I believe it should work straight out the box.
Will have another go this evening as away from my gear today.
O.K that works for me, strange. Is the transport in AUM running, or did you want it to start that too? I have to click play in AUM first, but then it works.
Will give it another go later can't remember
Yes! I was thinking about this. A hierarchy. But even through that I couldn’t get my head around on how to shrink the track length as we go up the hierarchy.
For example, let’s say, I have two sub-master sequencers A(10 bars) and B(20 bars).
Then the master of these sub-master sequencers will have to be of length 10+20 bars wouldn’t it (if I am playing each of the sub-masters once)? Be it through Hold mode or Pick-Up mode. Can’t think of a way to shrink the track length of the master altogether! Another way is to use a MIDI Controller to trigger each sub-master. But that is again manual intervention. Some sort of a follow action feature for the clips could solve this I think.
You need to press "play" in AUM first. Notice the message "Launch pending. Waiting for host to start playback." when you press the launch button?
Launchpad X doesn't have transport controls. However, you can assign them manually to AUM's parameters. To record arm, enter "record mode" on your launchpad X by pressing the Session button (this is the standard behavior). Tap a red button on the bottom to arm the playing clip on a track. Tap other pads to change the currently playing clip.
It should. Just press play in AUM
awesome!
Thanks @blueveek sorry should of made my post clearer I'm use a LaunchPad Pro MK 3.
I'm sure it will all come clearer once I had a bit more time to experiment and watched a few videos
Hi guiz im using it on aum but cant figure out how to launch next clip so the first automatically stop im in same channel both clips are rauted to the same audio sorce
Last time i checked session mode was off even with aum playing. Just note and custom were working.
You're on iOS 13. Controller integration requires iOS 14 and iCloud Drive.
Im on ios 14. I think you confused me with someone else. I always update my ipad. Just hadnt updated to 14.4.1 which im doing right now. Icloud drive is enabled too.
Then it was the iCloud Drive issue. I distinctly remember discussing with you on DM about this, because in the the 2.0.0 version, the plugin would crash on startup when iCloud was disabled (or unavailable for some reason). The crash has been fixed in 2.0.1 (in store right now), but that doesn't mean iCloud Drive doesn't need to be available for the controllers to work.
Yeah. It was the icloud drive. But what was strange is icloud drive was enabled back then too. Im not sure what else i have to do. Its enabled currently. It works for other apps.
Another user @stellare_modular reported that logging out and back into iCloud fixed the issue for them. Can you try that?
A quick view of LK launching Atom 2 clips!
Loving this!
Ok let me test that.
I’m loving where this is going!. Modular everything!. But in a constructive manner I wanted to stress on the importance of midi pattern changes, hopefully addressed in upcoming updates.
If an app has multiple patterns it should always expose a way to change them. That I believe is a must for a modular approach, and I know @blueveek is all about modular. In DigiStix, for example, you could control the reverb type via midi or even load songs but you couldn’t change patterns which made it unusable in a LK or modular context. They’ve now added midi pattern changes.
Exposing pattern changes via midi enables you to choose your preferred workflow, choosing which app does what.
I can’t stand programming drums on a piano roll, so I program drum patterns in Drambo (or DigiStix) and then trigger pattern changes from LK, Atom2 or a DAW. So you have a consistent tool for drums that you are comfortable with and can use anywhere. Modular.
I don’t like the piano roll in LK or Zenbeats so I want to use Atom2 for that. You load an Atom2 instance per track and again choose what plays from host. This is consistent. If you can’t change midi patterns and have to resort to Atom nodes that’d be OK for AUM. But you couldn’t do that in a daw. That’s not fully modular IMO.
With pattern changes you could use Atom2 as a “go to” midi editor and powerhouse from Drambo, a Daw, AUM, or another Atom. It would also, in a modular fashion, let you decide if you want to work with tracks (one Atom2 with multiple patterns for say a bass track) or individually. Like @wim I think this is a vital feature and I too hope it gets added.
Note: if this is available by now via an update please excuse me, my iPad is dead and I’m waiting for a replacement so I can’t do s%%$t.
Cheers!
Thank you. I repeated this. Internal deadlock in iOS while instantiating many audio units at the same time (allowed in specs), but only when Atom is among them.. Digging
And! Very bizarre, and hopefully not a fundamental bug within iOS. I'm also trying to see if I can workaround on my end.
@FloRi89 @blueveek Ok so I am all good to go now my Launchpad Pro MK 3 and Atom 2 now working as I would expect clip launching, scene launching Arm and Record solo mute all working a treat.👍👍👍👍👍
Not sure why the LP wasn’t playing first attempt
2 questions
Does the Capture midi button do anything within Atom 2 as the record works without it?
Is there any way to close down a session properly in AUM the launchpad seems to stay lit 🔥 if you just close AUM ?
Not yet.
Either remove all instances, or clear the session.
is there a way to midi learn the launch control button, or is the only way to assign a specific note number to launch control in the app?
