I can’t believe I’m passing a drum machine up, especially one as low cost as this, but there’s just not enough here to warrant stepping back to IAA for me.

The automation makes it 'unique'... hopefully it goes Au... It is begging for Multi-out (au)

  • Love this one and any drum app that has menus like this (see image) are Always welcome for mix-n-match quick beat making fun. The editability and capability x simplicity for $4? That's a Gift.

  • Make it AU, and I'll get it.

  • Yeah, if those classic emulators are good than this is amazing. I think funkbox classic kits are good and I like seeing the graphics as it does help when making tracks. You kinda envision what you want when you see the old school box. Cheers, hope its sweet.

    +1

  • I remember being impressed by the sound design potential of the original, but it ended up crashing a lot when I pushed it too hard, so I didn’t invest a whole lot of time in it. Went ahead and took a stab at Drumlab tonight, thinking it might be a fun diversion until FAC Drumkit hits next week; So far no crashing, and I’ve given it a hard exercise w/ loads of automation. I’ve been pleasantly surprised so far, It may end up being one of my top 3 iOS drum synths!

It’s chock full of a strong variety of synth engines and sample manipulation tools w/ plenty to tweak. One of its strengths is how quick and hands on it is to make wild or subtle changes, taking advantage of touch input better than something like Drumcomputer — its more like Seekbeats in that regard. I don’t mind that it’s not AUV3 yet as much as some people, as I often work on apps like this in standalone for added focus and screen real estate. So long as I can easily get audio stems in other apps, it’ll work out nicely here. (AU Would be nice though)

  • Digging it so far... Hoping for some quality of life updates. Pascal is an awesome person... and 4 bucks isn't much

  • Wow. This is a fun Drum Machine. I love the combination of Synthesis and Samples…great app.

  • Sadly it looks like the drone section is gone.

  • What does the Lock icon on the song page do? I assumed it would prevent any changes to the song from being permanent, but it doesn’t seem to work that way in practice.

Ok, you have convinced me to at least try it. If all this stuff is not IAP, should be a lot of fun. Cheers

  • I’m tempted too, I’ve had a lot of fun with dm2, is this massively different though?

  • The app is cool and fast to work with but it seriously should have FX (reverb, delay) per track. It is just asking for it.

Oh thank you. I thought it was gone. No need for DM2 now. Thanks again.

  • When loaded as an IAA in Cubasis, Drumlab is not receiving any midi notes from Cubasis. Is it designed as this or am I doing something wrong?
Would be great to be able to sequence it externally.

I get nothing when sending directly to DrumLab but if sending to an AudioBus virtual port I can see the MIDI “notes” radio button flash in time with the received MIDI but hear no sound. Also the instrument in the steps window flashes in time.

You can assign 4 fx to specific tracks.

    Thanks @anickt
It is not exactly how I have imagined it since there is only one state of the effect shared both globally and per tracks, but better this than nothing.

And here is how to make it work with IAA

Settings are a bit hidden. To be found on the song page in the right corner.

  • I don’t really understand not making this an auv3! This would get so much use and i would def grab it. Dm2 has given me issues and just won’t work most of the time so i won’t pay for it again as it stands but i would try it again as au

I don’t either but I know nothing about developing apps, lol. Maybe it’s a lot more work? I have no idea but developers definitely miss out on sales by not making audio apps that aren’t audio units. I would have bought it if it was an au but I don’t buy non au apps because I know myself and it will definitely collect dust lol.

I was thinking the same. Like having this unbreakable rule in the head "no AUv3 apps" but - just from curiosity - decided to break out of the box and since start to discover ways of implementing IAA apps into the workflow.
    Try it.
    It is worth it!
In Drumlab I have created a simple drum loop in 5 minutes, routed it into Cubasis, slapped a few effects and became happy. This app is more fun than Drum Computer.

Some apps will never be AUv3 (Drumjam).
Another shouldn't because it is better to work with them in full screen and not nested in a host app. But as long an IAA app has connectivity, it makes it potentially usable. Just my 0.02€

  • Surprised no AU, looks really dope though… on the fence.

Yes..It gives Drum Computer a run for its money.. Have to admit.. It is the best ‘sounding drum app’…. Wish he would do Auv3, Conditional Trigger… $20+ IAP.. 😉

I used to use IAA all the the time, and I still have IAA apps on my IPad, aside from a couple like Animoog and Nave, which I still hardly ever use, i just don’t find any that aren’t already covered need wise by the many audio units apps I have. Also I already bought DM2 the first time ( definitely wasn’t buying it a second time when it was removed and added back as basically the same app ) and I never use it.
If I’m being completely honest, I have no business buying another app. Lol. The one app I’d love to see is Korgs Triton releases as an auv3.

  • The majority of us have no business buying another app… and yet we do ;)

Everybody hunker down and make some music/noise. Ain’t no magic app going to do it all

So this is basically an updated DM2 with a new automation feature on the "DRUMS" page. I had it crash on me while trying to load another kit. Still no undo, which would be nice -especially with the new automation. Still no AUv3 either. I really hope there will be updates ... it is fun but veeeery similar to DM2, from the limited time I had with it so far.

  • edited June 2021

Definitely an undo function would be useful. Also randomization would be cool.

  • Honestly don't get the AU stuff. I absolutely love this app and that's coming from the father of a newborn Vermona DRM1 Mk4*.

*Ta daaa! Got it into another post!
