  • I’m sure there’s lots of creative possibilities and will be amazing for improvisation etc.
I’m confused as to how it will replace Audiobus or act like a daw in terms of getting tracks completed….

It's unlikely, but it's a good goal to aim for. And that's @Gdub's statement, not mine - maybe something got misedited in your reply?

I would be happy to pay 50 bucks for it! This is a daw, you can charge daw prices imho

Haha. Actually, i don’t know how to read that 🤔
I was being slightly facetious to be fair.
I guess I’m asking if this is just for guitarists outside tube stations…

Fair enough - I did edit a bunch of stuff out :#

"Aim for" is good. Achieve is impossible (speaking as a former software engineer) ...

    $50!!?! I'm outraged!

At this price it had better include a "tip jar" IAP! I'm not willing to put up with the guilt of getting all this for such a steal.

I’m morally obligated to post this video whenever someone reduces live looping performance to "busking guitarists."

    Andre has chops.
One of my favourite artists uses loopers for his shows.
I’m not technically proficient enough to understand how you use it in a daw setup.
    It’s probs not for me.

  • CHARGE $400!!!!

  • i need this now. please?

Just that it’s never the app’s fault. It’s always the musician’s procrastination.

  • Congratulations on this new wonder, Michael. I may finally have to learn what a loop is 😉😎🙏

Exciting times, people. This is a first look at LOOPY PRO: A professional live-looper, sampler and sequencer for iPad and iPhone. Coming very soon – subscribe at https://loopypro.com for news, and beta access when the time comes (VERY soon)!

It's been a long time coming. But I think you'll agree, it'll be worth the wait.

Great presentation. That video was soooo well done.

So am I understanding correctly that by being an AUv3 host, including MIDI tools like Xequence 2, and having the sequencer, it is basically a full DAW? Just instead of editing the MIDI in Loopy Pro’s sequencer, I’d edit in Xequence 2 and re-record into Loopy Pro?

Yeah pretty much. Soon there’ll be support for midi loops/oneshots as well, but I decided to get it out the door first.

    @craftycurate said:
@Michael Looks incredible! Can audio be routed to it internally e.g. From AUM or is it just for microphone recorded sound?

Yep! It works both as an AUv3 host, and also (I didn’t mention this in the video) it works as an AUv3 plugin itself, so you can use it with AUM etc.

You look so young and cool! I thought you'd be a little older and crustier (like me).

Superb app. Looking forward to it very much.

Haha! Must be the “young and cool” filter I used..

And inside itself. That kinda makes my brain hurt to think about. 😂

  • MIDI loops as well? This could be the Ableton Live of the iOS world.

  • Streams all audio from disk was what caught me up. That is terrific news.

  • I got an email about it. I’m guessing that means I already subscribed and can do the beta test when it’s available, is that right?

I am really looking forward to this. If it is what I’m thinking it’s going to be it’s going to absolutely be my DAW of choice.

When it comes to Mac will it be the same or a separate purchase? I have the M1 mini. I actually got an error report about no audio engine found running Loopy HD on it and sent it over for review with the note that it I wouldn’t expect this to work anyway.

Will you be able to do tempo/time signature changes mid timeline? Or during a loop switch?

Thanks for the hard work and persistence.

    Lol, like Drambo Inception haha...

Just make sure to make sure that if a session containing AUv3's is loaded in to an AUv3 instance it's properly dealt with to avoid un-expected behavior, everything from device reboot to well, total chaos and corrupted session files...

@Michael, I can only imagine how this moment must feel. My older son just recently moved out and I imagine it's something like that. :) It seems like a lifetime ago that I was looking forward to the next Loopy Masterpiece dev diary.

    Congratulations!

It’s been a long road! Not released yet though, still got a little more tweaking to do. Final push!

Omg 😳 This is stunning! Tell me I can use this as vocal tracking DAW for completely making a beat start to finish and a song with vocal performances @Michael

Also will there be keyboard shortcuts/trackpad mouse support?

Soon, yes! There’ll be plain audio tracks in the sequencer screen shortly after release, if not before.
Same with keyboard and mouse stuff: not yet but soon.

It doesn’t yet, but if there’s demand I certainly can add it.

@Michael - Fantastic that everything is freely configurable. What I would like to know is how it communicates with the outside world. Can it connect to an Ableton link and send midiclock to external devices?

    Of course!

I know folks have been asking for an AUv3 version of MIDI Designer Pro, TouchOSC, Sonic Logic, or Lemur. Will we be able to do this with Loopy Pro’s widgets and hosting inside another host such as AUM?

Edit: or even better, use one “screenful” of Loopy Pro to set up loops and be the equivalent of AUM, and then swipe to a second screenful that is just widgets to control everything on the first page?

Yeah, that should be doable. The focus on looping may add slightly more friction to the process of setting it up as just a controller but not much; you can already create widgets of all kinds which send midi messages out. Haven’t built in visual feedback for those yet (which take incoming return messages to show state), but that’s easily done and on my todo list.

    @wahnfrieden said:
Pardon the morbidity but this is such a triumph for iPad and music-making that you should consider continuity of it in your will

Haha! It’s okay, I shall code from Beyond the Grave. And yeah I’ve already set up a contingency document.

    @shinyisshiny said:
this looks absolutely incredible. thank you @Michael !

that being said, i think its pretty unfair to charge people for an app they will use. I think the user's should get paid by the DEV. where else would dev's get invaluable feedback and tips on how to make better apps.

    Haha! Agreed!

Curious if Loopy Pro would benefit of the (CPU) power of a iPad Pro M1? Especially using it with AUM and Drambo.

I'm also very interested in the MacOS version, is that included in the beta testing @Michael ?

Well, it sorta depends what you’re doing. It runs brilliantly on my Air 2. But if you want tens of effects, then more power will help.

Proper macOS support will come post-release, but I’d imagine it’d run okay on the M1 Macs as-is. I don’t have one yet so I can’t tell you.

    @AlmostAnonymous said:
@michael, whats the oldest ipad you have been testing with and how did they compare to newer ipads? (dsp-wise, track count, etc)

I develop exclusively using an iPad Air 2, to make sure performance is okay there. It runs really well. In a test I did a little while ago I added something like 24 playing loops to the screen, and then duplicated to about five or six pages of scenes, all playing, so that was what, 120 playing loops, no problem. Obviously adding effects will eat into the CPU budget, depending on the effects, but I’m finding my iPad can handle it pretty well.

  • /s I'm amazed @Michael was able to create this app while typing upside down and yet
in the Northern Hemisphere the loops still circle the drain in a "clockwise" orientation. Probably an Apple requirement...

I will continue to maintain my "idle loop" until this one ships. I need a new paradigm for my
    daily DAW.

Completing tracks? Well where’s the fun in that? 😁

To be perfectly honest, as it will be at 1.0, you probably won’t be doing full tracks from start to finish in it, because I haven’t built automation tracks or straight audio tracks in the sequencer yet, and midi tracks are also still to come. That will all be coming after initial release. But yeah, this is one of my goals.

    Yep

When it comes to Mac will it be the same or a separate purchase? I have the M1 mini.

Initially, it should work okay as-is on the M1 Macs. But on my roadmap is a dedicated Mac version, with tweaks to make it feel better, as well as allowing it to be used as an audio unit (maybe VST too) inside DAWs. That will be a separate purchase.

Will you be able to do tempo/time signature changes mid timeline? Or during a loop switch?

    Yup, that should work.

Actually when it’s running as an AUv3 it can’t host AUv3’s (that’s not allowed).

Oh, did I miss some rough edges? I just can’t get the VO audio quality unless I’m close-miced, too much room noise.
