Thanks for the info!
Multifile drag'n'drop support got added in the LogicPro for iPad 1.1 update
Do you have any plans of adding a super basic audio-editor to Sample Crate?
It would be perfect for chopping the audio extracted from screen-recordings.
A basic trim/crop, normalize and fade in/out would do and the selection tool could optionally snap to x-crossings.
Cheers!
I actually do, and the code is already in the current build of the app
The plan is to have basic trim functionality, slice to files, export.
It'll probably be an in-app upgrade. No subs. I hate subs. I mean, I can see the value for a developer, but even my Logic sub which I don't mind paying because it gives me everything I could ever want... even that gives me the itch when I have half a month not using it.
❤️ trim in app neeeeeded!
I do wish LogicPro for iPad had a bit more advanced audio-editing tools and an easy way to export an audio-region to a *.wav by drag'n'drop to Files.app which should also be integrated in the built-in browser
Export would not be an issue if Files.app allowed users to dig inside 'bundles'.
Btw. is that something that is doable? (Ie. can an app based on the Document Picker/Files.app framework browse inside bundles? If yes that would be a gold-mine for Sample Crate as it would allow us to 'extract' files from LogicProjects
Cheers!
Agreed. It’s very annoying that you can’t just export a wav. If I recall correctly on Logic desktop you can choose whether to use bundle thingy or regular files and directories.
This too. It’s odd that iOS daws are still so lacking on audio editing. BTW I just tried Neon editor in Logic and you can drag and drop from Neon media library onto a Logic track. That was a good star. BUT you can’t copy/paste from Logic onto Neon, so rather useless. You’d have to record on Neon, then edit, then export, bla bla…
But look at Neon, a one-man’s work and it’s got a ton of features including warping and transient editing. I very much dislike the UI, but still, it just shows that it’s totally doable.
Not only that but in the Desktop Logic's File Editor (Not The Region Editor) you also have the option to save a copy of the audio-file and on top of that all audio-regions used within the project are easily accessible in the 'browser' while LogicPro on the iPad is very quick to remove files that are no longer in active use on the currently open project.
Also there's no way to 'export' samples from the QuickSampler in LogicPro for iPad while the QuickSampler in Logic Pro for Mac has an option to save/export the sample.
I guess the main reason for defaulting to 'Bundle' on the iPad is to allow easy sharing of projects as all assets are automatically copied into the bundle and not referenced to external locations.
One thing worth remembering is that when loading a Logic Project containing flex-pitch and flex-time edits done on the Mac LogicPro for iPad plays them back perfectly without any issues so the core engine is already capable of doing all that but currently LogicPro for iPad lacks the UI elements needed to change the edits.
It'll be interesting to see what future updates to LogicPro for iPad will bring
That bundle is technically just a folder with a file extension. Or a zip... can't remember, so... in theory...
let's just say I'm adding this to my todo list
Don't promise anything, but I'll sure investigate it.
It's definitely a folder without any compression
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bundle_(macOS)
"a bundle is a file directory with a defined structure and file extension, allowing related files to be grouped together as a conceptually single item."
Goodie, no need to rush...
Would it be possible to only have tags exclusive to music or related to samples or pick the ones that get displayed in the app and have different tags from the ones in the files app? I use a lot of tags including non music related stuff and they're imported automatically using iCloud which gets quite messy.
Hey @kirmesteggno, unfortunately those are shared across iOS.
K, thanks.
What about more features related to sample chains? Here are some I can think of as an user:
Create sample chains from selected files without having to go through the kit screen.
Kinda related to 1, an option for more than 16 samples in a chain. (already works)
Make sample chains (and samples within kits) drag & droppable without having to export into a folder first.
But, you can already make sample chains with more than 16 samples.
I just made an chain with 88 samples that was 250MB as an chain.
Indeed, I've never tried adding more than 16 samples to a kit for some reason 😅
That's actually a dope idea. And I don't think it's hard to do.
You mean sorting? That's possible, but you need to enable EDIT mode. And long press the pads when dragging. It's a bit fiddly.
I guess I kinda owe a status update:
As you probably guessed work has taken over a lot of my time, with late meetings & such. Need to drop this habit asap!
I've gathered a list of requests (big & small) which I thank you guys for.
The plan is to tackle the small ones first so I can refresh that AppStore version, and then tackle the bigger ones.
Not promising any timelines but I'm aiming for the next period.
meanwhile I'm having too much fun with Logic Pro and SampleCrate. It's my dream workflow come true.
Heck I even bought sample kits from various producers directly on my phone, saved them in my iCloud folder and they're immediately available for Logic.
Thanks for a great app!
I shouldn't cry if you come up with great new features into Sample Crate and make them IAP - I'm certain that many would pay more bucks for more features.
Have a nice day!
@alecsbuga Okay, I'm having an issue. I have Sample Crate on my iPad, but not on my iPhone. Went to download it on my iPhone and got this message both there and on my iPad here,
Can you please address this and/or fix this mate? I'd greatly appreciate it.
Not on the Australian app store either. Was there a few weeks ago.
I planned to use Sample Crate on my iPhone to curate some drum samples for an upcoming music project, and now I can't so it seems. At least not on my iPhone. I'm lucky I have SC installed on my iPad, but it doesn't do me much good there as my iPhone is my main creation environment.
Maybe @alecsbuga forgot to pay the developer fees or was unable to. If this is the case, hopefully @alecsbuga adds a tip jar in the next iteration of Sample Crate so that we can help his continued development of the app.
Can you use iMazing to back it up from your App Store purchased apps and then copy it across to your phone?
When you mention the great app iMazing on Mac, I’ve got some thoughts recently - if I have bought an app in the past but not have it installed any more, can I download that .ipa-file from a friend or site and take it into iMazing and there install it?
Or, must the .ipa-file been backuped when logged in to my/ours AppleID accounts?
Of course it shouldn’t be possible to download random .ipa-file to install (piracy), but, it would be nice if Apple could serve us all apps we bought since 2008 into some FTP services…
I check my Apps not on the phone and installed it from there.
You saved the day! Phew that worked lol.
Ipa files are encrypted to only work with the AppleID they are associated with. Ipa files are not in device backups (that ended around iOS 9 or 10). iMazing does not extract IPA’s from device backups. It has a mechanism by which it can download the ipa of an app you own to your desktop.
The ipa thing in iMazing is related to device backups even though people use the term backup when talking about it.
Ok. Thanks for your answers.
It would be nice if we could download .ipa-files on apps we bought earlier, but has disappeared from Appstore.
So, if I understand right here, if you give me your .ipa-file from your i-device exported from iMazing, that file would not work for me even when I have bought it earlier?
iMazing can sometimes download apps no longer in the store.
An ipa file from my device will not work on yours even if you own the app
Yeah, a sad decision from Apple, especially when apps we bought earlier can all of a sudden disappear from Appstore - sad sad sad...
The most peculiar thing is that "we" love Apple despite all the bad things - and now it's only ten days to next Apple Keynote and they will present my next iPad - with 14" screen and M3, and also, double up USB-C connections...
3500 bucks?
For that, I'm hoping an iPad Mini 7 with at least 512gb storage or an iPad Mini Pro with expanded storage is announced, lol. I love my iPad Mini 6, but its 256gb storage capacity is not enough for the apps I use on the daily.
Yeah, nice with a tiny iPad, and, perhaps at least M2 and 512GB and 8GB RAM…
But, I’m that guy longing for bigger iPad Pro - 14” or better, maybe an 16” could fit my needs!
