I'm lucky I have SC installed on my iPad, but it doesn't do me much good there as my iPhone is my main creation environment.

Can you use iMazing to back it up from your App Store purchased apps and then copy it across to your phone?

When you mention the great app iMazing on Mac, I’ve got some thoughts recently - if I have bought an app in the past but not have it installed any more, can I download that .ipa-file from a friend or site and take it into iMazing and there install it?

Or, must the .ipa-file been backuped when logged in to my/ours AppleID accounts?

Of course it shouldn’t be possible to download random .ipa-file to install (piracy), but, it would be nice if Apple could serve us all apps we bought since 2008 into some FTP services…

Ipa files are encrypted to only work with the AppleID they are associated with. Ipa files are not in device backups (that ended around iOS 9 or 10). iMazing does not extract IPA’s from device backups. It has a mechanism by which it can download the ipa of an app you own to your desktop.

The ipa thing in iMazing is related to device backups even though people use the term backup when talking about it.

    Ok. Thanks for your answers.

It would be nice if we could download .ipa-files on apps we bought earlier, but has disappeared from Appstore.

So, if I understand right here, if you give me your .ipa-file from your i-device exported from iMazing, that file would not work for me even when I have bought it earlier?

iMazing can sometimes download apps no longer in the store.

An ipa file from my device will not work on yours even if you own the app

Yeah, a sad decision from Apple, especially when apps we bought earlier can all of a sudden disappear from Appstore - sad sad sad...

The most peculiar thing is that "we" love Apple despite all the bad things - and now it's only ten days to next Apple Keynote and they will present my next iPad - with 14" screen and M3, and also, double up USB-C connections...

    3500 bucks?

For that, I'm hoping an iPad Mini 7 with at least 512gb storage or an iPad Mini Pro with expanded storage is announced, lol. I love my iPad Mini 6, but its 256gb storage capacity is not enough for the apps I use on the daily.

Yeah, nice with a tiny iPad, and, perhaps at least M2 and 512GB and 8GB RAM…

But, I’m that guy longing for bigger iPad Pro - 14” or better, maybe an 16” could fit my needs!

Cool. :) It's cool how we all have our own preferences for what we wish to have. I do love working on my iPhone 14 Pro Max. It's a dream come true. But in some ways it is a bit limiting.

Can't make visual art on it for one thing (Apple Pencil doesn't work, just pointing out the obvious, and "finger painting" sucks), and many baller apps are iPad-only. Not so much missing FabFilter, but apps like Tal-U-No and BAM and such are all iPad only.

And I used a 12.9" iPad Pro for a year and hated that it wasn't so portable for my needs compared to my Mini 6. Then again my Mini 6 has max storage of 256gb. 😂

And I realised we really took this thread offtopic lol. 😂 Whoops. Well hopefully @alecsbuga can get Sample Crate back into the appstore. Easy peasy.

Your last sentence - yeah, we hopefully get SampleCrate back in business!
It would be nice if SampleCrate could be developed to a full blown Files app (stock app) so we could skip Apples Files and do EVERYTHING in SampleCrate!

  • Do other people the problem that exported samplechains play each hits 3 times?

Yeah, I’ve had that too. I reported it as a bug a while back but it didn’t appear to get fixed. Have you tried digichain? I just use that for sample chains now, it’s much more reliable

Tnx! Too bad about samplecrate though. It’s still one of the best apps for samplebrowsing and putting together packs /samplechains all in one place. Let’s just hope @alecsbuga and samplecrate return to us.

Yep, fingers crossed 🤞. Digichain and samplecrate side by side in Split View is a pretty combo though.

  • Hey folks. Sorry for being quiet. As I said. Work has taking its toll on me. Finally managed to get a laptop free vacation.

As for Sample Crate, the account is paid and set to auto renew. Apple instead issued a new developer agreement which I missed and didn’t click Agree. Dammit. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    It should be fine now.

As for your comments above. Noted. I have a pretty big bugs/features list that I need to address.

Thank you again for your support!

    Good news!

Hope you had a relaxing break and sorry to hear that work is getting you down.

Great news! Thanks for your work on Samplecrate over the years and for getting that resolved. It's a fantastic app and I would like to continuing supporting it in the future.

  • Tnx for the update @alecsbuga! I Hope things get less hectic in the future but till then take it easy. @FordTimeLord tnx for the excellent tip. I actually picked up a digitakt recently so thus will serve me well in general. Tmx everyone!

  • Hey y'all, I've been pinged by some users that Sample Crate wasn't available in the AppStore.
The problem is fixed now. I had to agree to some new terms & conditions.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Thank you very much. I’m well. It’s just … life happens and you get caught up in the ride and you sometimes forget to pay your non-renewable Apple Developer subscription, or agree their terms.

Luckily there are good people around that ping you when something’s up.

Thanks and I really appreciate it!
    Have fun making music!

PS: since Logic and GrooveRider 2 came out I can’t put them down. Too bad I have very little time to make music.

Hey! we need at least some sneak peek of your works with GR2!

  • edited June 2025

I don't have anything on Youtube yet with GR2 (or ... have I?)... anyways, here's a song made from scratch in Logic Pro for iPad
I used that Magic Mastering plugin and it sounds bonkers!

PS: Most of my songs from Spotify are made on iPad. You can hear Auxy, AUM, OP-Z in there (The WoodBlock Song is made entirely on OP-Z)

  • Hey folks. Happy new year!
Just a heads up that I’ve been squashing a lot of bugs this holiday break, mostly the sample chain feature when using mixed sample rates and file types.

The pads will be reworked to have low latency and a new design.

Also I teased about a new feature a while ago. I’m working on a wave editor. If you can create chains, this editor will break those chains… like slice them :)

Exciting times. I also have a list of nice feature requests that I’ll tackle.

    I don’t have a timeline yet.

    Stay tuned! Love you all!

  • Fantastic news. Sample Crate is one of my favorite iOS apps of all time!

  • Can someone give examples on how Sample Crate would fit into a workflow? I have it but don’t quite get the utility. It felt like a fancy tagging system when I was using it but I definitely don’t think that’s the extent of its capabilities.

It’s great for simply browsing, even better set to slide-over for an app which receives drag & drop.

Ok the slide over makes sense. Are there sample players with easy drag and drop directly to pads to build kits? OneShot, Koala, or Beathawk maybe? I’ll have to try it out.

  • This app is at its best when I want to e.g copy 64 audio files by dragging to Loopy LiveSet or audition the loops or sanples before bringing them in. Koala can do auditioning and multiple file handling a bit similarly but file handling possibilities in there are much more simple.. I really hope this app lives long 😊👍

  • Wow. Thanks for the nice words guys. I’m humbled.

  • Why that app privacy, @alecsbuga ? It's what is keeping me for buying it.

  • Great App! I use it on slide-over mode with korg gadget to collect the samples and loops i need for a track, put them in a crate and export the single files into a folder (named as the track title), under the "Korg Gadget" folder.

The ability to slice samples would be a welcome addition, so i can use them on Bilbao (now i'm using Koala for this task)

Yeah, I know... Apple being apple man.
If you use the SEND FEEDBACK button, I get an email. That's "user data". Maybe I was being too "correct" with Apple. But you're not the first one complaining about it. I find it a bit stupid if you ask me.

As for diagnostics, it's crash data, when you first activate your ipad and agree to "send app data to developers".
That's just stack traces. it doesn't contain personal info.

  • Here's what GPT says... so I wouldn't risk saying "No, I don't collect any personal info".

Why “Send Feedback” emails are usually personal data
An email sent via a SEND FEEDBACK button often includes at least one of the following:
User’s email address (explicitly or as the “From” field)
Name (if tied to their email account)
Free-text content that may reference the user, their device, location, or behavior
Metadata (timestamps, IP info if routed through a backend, device info if auto-attached)
Any data that can directly or indirectly identify a person counts as personal data.
An email address alone already qualifies.
    So:
📧 “Just opens Mail with the user’s email client” → Yes, personal data
📧 App sends feedback via your backend API → Definitely personal data

  • Thanks for explaining, @alecsbuga - I have purchased it. So nice to be able to easily listen to samples...
