  • BTW, in the past I used Adobe Bridge, nowadays I use Bulk Rename Utility. It may give you some ideas for batch-renaming tasks you may want to add later (or avoid )

@alecsbuga If the app’s directory is just an iCloud directory, I can see myself moving all my samples into it anyway.

Is it possible to include Drive in an app like this or are you only allowed to use Dropbox or iCloud? It could be an IAP!?

  • Looks great. Would love to have a list view + properties/ player in seperate column right.
Easy autoplay on/off. And also direct play from icloud, dropbox , audioshare and pcloud
    Looking forward to it!

I also hope for a way to bidirectional sync Audioshare contents with a folder on a cloud service.
But i think this is something audioshare should do natively without webdav.

    And voilá Batch Rename.
The thing is, it only works if the samples are in the app's directory otherwise iOS doesn't let you do anything.

But I'm thinking of a workaround. Copy the files in the App directory, and THEN rename them.

Not sure how many samples people would have... but maybe it would be good for the number to be double figures, like 01, 02, 03...
because if they reach 11, 15, 25, etc. it still keeps ordering tidy.

I say this because I batch rename a lot on my job with graphical assets

    Maybe even 3 figures. 007 🍸

    Actually I’m serious 😠

  • Makes sense, mate

if anyone doubts the usefulness for this kind of numbering, think old hardware samplers that load numerically named samples and whatnot. Besides the organization advantages

You can browse all your file providers like Dropbox, GDrive, etc from within Sample Crate like you would from Files App. No need to keep all your samples inside my app folder. Put them anywhere on your iCloud. I have them in Downloads for instance.

I’ll make a quick video about workflow tips when it’s a little more complete.

  • As for the numbering you have a point but I renamed a bunch of samples and it sorts them ok without leading zeros. I’ll make an option in the rename popup about this. Because some samplers like my MPC 1000 don’t like big names. It treats them as the same file.

And apparently Apple is working on weekends :)

    Enjoy and please send feedback.

    This is great! Some thoughts/questions:

    • How do you remove samples from the Crate? The trash button removes all.
    • Doesn’t read CAF files—Apple loops. Is that coming?
    • Love that it just works like Files app—two-finger drag for multi-select, for example.
    • Can I switch it to light mode? I find dark mode harder to use in general.
    • Having the settings button in the playback/progress bar seems like an odd place.
    • Any chance of Octatrack sample chains?

So far this is great though! Digging it, even just as a fast browser.

  • Please use the feedback form / test flight feedback. I will need to centralize that

PS: I had no idea about 2 finger multi select. AWESOME!

I'm still working on that. To enable Looping & shit. I think looping is in this build. Try holding down a pad.

    It shuold, thanks for noticing.

Well I specifically limited it to dark mode, but yeah, I guess I should leave it to the user's choice.

    • Having the settings button in the playback/progress bar seems like an odd place.

Yeah, I need to find some places to put stuff because on iPhone it gets crammed.

    • Any chance of Octatrack sample chains?

Well if you export the sample chain and use slice to X regions? Doesn't that do the trick?
I've had an Octatrack a while ago, but not sure what you mean. You mean slice metadata?
Please use the feedback form so I can keep track of the feature req / bug, etc.

Thanks! That was the main driver for building it. I wanted a fast browser that looks native so I can quickly add stuff to Koala.
Heck you can even browse external drives :)

It reads whatever Files app reads

  • You’re supposed to tell me to clean my room, not “leave it a mess, this will at least help you find things”

  • That being said, I’d love to test drive it for you, but I’m an awful beta tester and will leave that spot for someone else.
    @Michael wasnt so lucky…..sorry brah.

  • Loving it! Just sent you some feedback and a crash report 😉

I didn’t even know an app like this was possible. I’m gonna make a prediction: you’re gonna get a shit ton of feature requests when this drops!

  • Already an essential app! This "Create samples chain" feature is great!!

Love the tags! Never knew I needed them so bad. Adding to the Crate is fine. What's a sample chain?

Love the tags! Never knew I needed them so bad.

I tagged a shitload of samples in the files app. But never actually used them since the files app is so slow for previewing and working with samples. This looks extremely promising on Sample Crate.
I do wish there was a sort of “recursive tag” feature so you can tag all the samples in a directory. You can tag the directory itself but I’d rather tag the actual samples.

Adding to the Crate is fine. What's a sample chain?

Here’s an example of a sample chain… Dramo Flexi sampler using slices to trigger velocity samples of a snare. So you have sn01, sn09, sn40, etc all in the same file, sequentially and play one or the other slice based on velocity trigger. In the big sampler you’re limited to & layers for velocity samples while in Flexi you have ehem more flexibility.
There’s a lot of use for chained samples.
People mention Oktatrakt, don’t know about that but Digitakt also makes good use of them. Some people go as far as to put a whole drum kit in a single file and then choose what portions (slice) it plays per step.

I used to do my own sample chains to use in Drambo Flexi, but it took forever. This is a superb feature.

  • Wow thanks guys, I really appreciate the feedback!

  • Dope ! Just downloaded ! Will test asap but it looks already dope :)

I really appreciate you doing this app! 🙌
There’s mind blowing apps in iOS, all kinds of sound mangling, advanced synthesis, etc, etc… yet there’s a TON of workflow problems and there’s hardly any “utility” apps like this one to tackle or at least tame daily frustrations. Personally, this IS game-changing if it’s gonna make me better use of my time. For example I wasn’t using the Flexi in Drambo even though I like 1000 times better just because it was so tedious to chain samples together.
Same for batch renamin, tried with Shortcuts and you just give up as it gets complicated, you forget what you did where…
I don’t know what your plans are with this app but I figure you have a ton of possible work to do. Maybe an IAP system to add features would be worth it?.

  • I really appreciate it too and thanks for your help @tahiche

  • @tahiche said_Some people go as far as to put a whole drum kit in a single file and then choose what portions (slice) it plays per step_

Ohhhhhhhhh! I wondered why there were those kind of files. That's a really good idea. Imma give it a go.

  • Beta full already. :( Any chance of increasing it? Want to test sample chains in apps like EG Segments and others.

  • Ok. I'll increase it later today. Not at home now

  • Grabbed an invite. This looks amazing! I've been looking for a way to assemble drum kits more quickly, and I'm sure the sample renaming will come in handy soon.
