I think thats what might be happening here with SampleCrate. Dunno.
Had to put it down for a hot minute

That sounds like my experience pulling my hair out trying to get Files App to manage a NAS. It's unreliable even with a USB drive directly connected. Good luck.

I dont have an issue really managing the NAS with files itself. I dont really manage from it per se. Just navigate and transfer what I need. Any large scale management is done on the NAS itself. The issue is happening when I’m using SampleCrate, not the files app.
(The synology iOS app itself BLOWS)

Unfortunately I don't have a NAS to test but Sample Crate shouldn't behave any different than Files app. But knowing Apple it might impose some limits. Like renaming files outside the app. It might have something to do with that.

Can you make a screen recording with voice over to explain what are you trying to do? And send it over to the feedback email address? Or here... I don't mind.

  • Not sure if mentioned but is it possible to get Digistix 1&2, EG pulse, SDSx, or Hammerhead to pop up for export? Not sure if this is more of an iOS thing… or not?

Also Tried exporting crate to koala and kept getting first sample only.. I think that’s been mentioned though. Tried chain samples and export.

Does the crate reset every time you open the app?

Anyway to save crates? Not the actual samples necessarily but maybe a way to recall what files were on them? Like a preset.

  • Also is there a manual or tutorial showing all the functions?

I basically want to create a crate and move it to a drum app all at once, especially the apps I mentioned above. I’m on iOS 15.1

Share > Open in Koala opens just the first file. It's a Koala thing. When Apple approves last night update. You'll be able to drag the export button to Koala and have all the crate there.

Saving crates: just tap Share > Tag and ad a tag. Basically you save the files into a Tag. Then you go to that tag and add back to crate. I tried saving crates themselves but file URLs outside the app change all the time due to security issues. It's Apple walled garden at it's best

    Gotcha. Thank you.

  • I'll make a video today. I took for granted a lot of the behavior and I thought it was super obvious :) but I might be too much of an iOS fanboy.

I just woke up. I'll make a video today. Just a bit of patience. I've been coding all day yesterday fixing last min feedback 😀

  • I gotta say you’ve been on top of customer service, well done.

Meanwhile until the update is approved try tagging the files in a crate like I told you and have Koala side by side. And drag multiple files from a Tag

Anyone out there care to elaborate on how they’ve organised their sample library on iCloud to share across multiple devices?

TLDR How are people going to use this to re organise their samples?

Any tips on tagging, batch re naming, organisation etc would really help. I’m pretty old school when it comes to folders. I have folders in folders in folders …

Maybe start a new thread for this. I’m also very interested.

  • Thank you for an essential app! Question: when I export a sample chain, how come the resulting file is a .m4a file instead of the original .wav?

Somehow .wav didn't allowed me to insert silence at the end of the file.
I switched to m4a and it worked, but I just realised... you need .wav for hardware samplers

Wow. My first iOS 15 cockblock.

Yeah, kills it for me too. He's gonna lose a few sales because of the 15 requirement.

Well, I don't promise, but I'll see what can be done about it, but there are a lot of UI stuff that only works on iOS 15.

OK, but it may not be worth your effort for the few extra sales you might get and it sounds lke you are not in it for the money. Thanks anyway.

  • Thought title was sample mangler... 🤪pinged my radar! Looks neat though!

When I export with sample chain option active it create a file per sample isn’t it supposed to stitch the files together? Or do I miss something.

  • Export has 2 options: "Export..." which exports all the samples, and "Sample chain" which exports 1 file with all the samples concatenated.

  • Can we please have a pause button and a scrubber when playing back a sample?

There is a possibility to render the wave form on the icons. Would that be useful? I think it's intensive with lots of files so, not sure if it's really useful.

If you decide to implement this, please have an option to turn it off for recovering sample hoarders🙏

    😂😂👏👏👏👏

    Excellent!

  • Bought and paid for. Thanks, @alexbuga , you're a real one.

  • So…. Maybe I missed it and I am sorry. I did buy the app, and have a question.

I download a lot of samples from Splice. When you do that it puts then into a folder with the pack name under the main splice folder. Is there a way or is this an IOS files limitation do see recently added files??? The only way I can see them in Crate is to navigate to that pack or search by name does find it.

Also on the recent files I assume at least that is the ones that I have auditioned? Is there a way to clear that?

    Thanks for the App!!!

  • By default the Recents tab shows the last files "opened" by Sample Crate, in this case the last files played, you're correct.
You can long press the Splice folder and add it to favorites in the sidebar though.
