@sonosaurus, seems to be an awesome news!
Does the multilayer engine support round robin?

What about multi track external sequencing, with multi out Drumjam? Likely Drambo. Can a drambo pad/track. Which has a keyboard note ( I think ) trigger drumjam pad but from a controller?

If you needed to calibrate so it works well with Drambo. Wouldnt be so bad.

So.... being driven from an external sequencer/controller, and outputting each pad/hit to a separate audio output, which you then route to something else to do the mixing/effects? I'm just curious about how folks who want this kind of thing actually do it in real-life -- seems like a whole lot of setup -- that would have to be re-done for every single different kit you loaded up which might have a different selection of hits.

just my opinion, but I feel like external sequencing , and multi output can be done with so many other drum apps, in order to be more machine like, and send each kit piece to a different effect chains. where drumjam is more about realistic drumming and expression than a sound design tool. again just my opinion curious to see what other people think

I understand Just found finger drumming but if the sounds of app are good. Why not be able to record sequence also after practicing finger drums but so that a decent sequencer can output midi that you've input from a controller, on a midi per track basis and be multi out for effects. Effects can maybe add more realism. Panning and all the effects. Being able to be sequenced shouldnt affect the app. It will maybe sell more also but I guess drumjam apps have a good rep anyway.

Hi sonosaurus. Not sure what you ment by kits. So just answered poster below but as I say. Just found finger drumming so would be ok with audio. Just would be cool to be able to record sequence ( I guess ). Maybe its better/easier to build own sequencers anyway when making drum apps.

  • True. Also for me the Sonosaurus apps are rather touch instruments for real playing than sound generators that I sequence. The move to AUv3 is really great and it will make it easier to integrate this new app into my workflow. I’m really excited.

  • I get the point. A sequencer would just be a loop unless midi were recorded to a piano roll. Was there not an issue with people finding a sequencer or the way app works with a sequencer with fac drumkit.

Saying that. Just drumming audio does seem cool.

    So I guess im happy.

Certainly you’ll be able to sequence it from outside, my question is more focused on how you use the multi-outputs in practice. DrumJam has an incredibly diverse variety of instruments with completely different kinds of hits for each one, so you’d have to customize the rest of your downstream multi-out audio processing any time you want to use a new kind of instrument in DrumJam. I’m trying to judge just how important multi-out is to the DrumJam audience.

Multi-outs are VERY important. Such a hassle and time saver when producing stems to mix and arrange/build a song around.

A good example of it being done correctly is koala auv3 inside of AUM. A multi-out scenario like that would be great.

See what you are saying. It becomes effect tweaking to suit next kit. Where as you may have programmed effects to kits.

Multi out should still be cool and maybe midi ch + note/cc per pad or whatever is needed to also sequence ( from a launchpad ) to sequencer, then sequencer to drums.

Cant say im an expert though.

    Thanks sonosaurus

It will absolutely be able to support voice or pad per-channel midi input, in a few different ways.

  • Please make it compatible with the Akai mpd-218. Thanks!

  • @sonosaurus you have my full support! Good luck! Very excited.

  • @sonosaurus awesome to see you coming out with a new app. 👍

Can you tell us more about the deep velocity-layered pads does it support round robin?

+1 for multi out great addiction!!

  • It's time to start buying Drumjam IAPs then B)

  • This one’s hot….How to get notified when it’s out? rather not have to rely on having to surf a forum every day. do you have a mailing list?

  • Good luck. Much anticipated.

After that maybe a thumbjam Auv3 controller arpeggio

Generally, most of the instrument hits have between 15-25 velocity layers, and the engine prevents identical samples being triggered in a row... so instead of fixed round-robin lists for particular velocities, it relies more on there being enough velocity layers, along with some subtle randomization of the velocity.

Very smart and original way to solve the problem.
Thanks for taking time to explain.

    @sonosaurus

    Some requests:

    1) tuning per pad
    2) humanization
    3) dragged triplets

The lack of dragged triplets is the primary limitation of the pads for me. I can’t unquantize and play triplets in nearly as well as I can play a dragged solo with quantize on.

Dragged triplets could be implemented as an option for number of triplets per bar, plus the ability to shift them left or right within the bar as in a Euclidean sequencer. Maybe also a random option so the triplets only drop in occasionally instead of every bar. Even slicker would be a second randomize — within each triplet — so that it might play only one or two notes of each triplet, instead of all three every time.

    I'm looking at similar-ish AUv3's for comparison.

I have: DrumComputer, Fractal Bits, Hammerhead, Skaka, Ting, Vatanator.

Of these, only DC and HH have multi-out. I can rationalize that because DC & HH are much more about the sequence.

Considering how I use these apps, I'd say:

    • I really want MIDI IN Notes mapped to instruments, like all of the above.
    • It makes sense to omit the internal patterns and sequences.
    • Multi-out is neat, but not essential in the first release.

Xequence AU Pads might be another point of reference.

  • Any update on this app?

  • @sonosaurus Are there any chances to see the same treatment for the Thumbjam keyboard? I think it’s the best iOS expressive instrument and a midi auv3 would fit perfectly the small expressive/mpes virtual controller niche. Thanks!

Triplets are a great idea... along with a way to easily engage triplets (or any another alternate repeat time length) on demand.

What particular kinds of humanization are you thinking? Mostly timing-based? There is already randomization in the form of dropping, and velocity (but mostly that's real-human controlled).

Timing, missed notes and velocity are the big 3.

    Yea triplets, maybe dotted too.

  • No questions, just sending more coffee etc.

  • @sonosaurus I'm still looking forward to sample import in DrumJam...is there an eta on this?

also sending cream and sugar to go with Johnny's coffee

Absolutely. Amazing value and very high quality samples.

  • This is amazing news!

If we could just get the sounds + the drums in as auv3 first, with the common effects that are already available in drum jam- all as controllable by midi - I would be so happy!

The drum jam drumset sounds are some of my favorite percussion sounds on my iPad! Unfortunately my touch screen has lost sensitivity in some spots, so I haven’t used DrumJam hardly at all anymore cuz I have troubles getting some other midi source to control it. So if this means we could finally use all those cool drum sets in an auv3 setting AND I could have something else play those drums & mess with the effects - that would.be.amazing

and then id say start focusing on the other features, after that is done right 😁

so my request is really to spend all the time you need to put ‘what makes drum jam feel like drum jam’ into an Auv3 setting - and if you can get that right, the other stuff is all extra bonus, in my humble opinion. In other words, (don’t go for a one-app-to-do-everything solution right out of the gates, despite the fact that everyone here is going to beg you to do that hehe)
    Thanks!

    😊
