I might be getting my first new laptop in like 11 years. Its amazing how long I was able to go almost exclusively using an iPad.
Anyway, now that I have returned to music making after an extended hiatus - but did so via iOS music it seems I have a bit of learning curve in terms of not only integrating the iPad and laptop but also duplicating the functions of certain apps that I probably wont want to do without on either platform now.

Right away, can anyone tell me if there are any midi plugins that duplicate the polyrhythmic functionality of Octachron and Polybeat for drums without spending $200 +/- for something like Geist (preferably pre-mapped for popular drum plugins)? I spent some time looking last night. Surprisingly elusive.
Also, the same functionality of StepPolyArp and Cykle is something I will be seeking as well.

Something similar to generative-type apps such as Polyphase and Xynthesizr would be nice too…

Take a look at the HY sequencers. https://hy-plugins.com/

I agree. I've had pretty good luck with their plugins so far.

Did we miss an Ableton sale?

If that is related to my comment about “half price” I meant upgrade vs initial buy-in of Bitwig.
I could be wrong but last time I looked into it I think my upgrade price from 9 would be more like $2-300 vs almost $500 for a fresh BW license.
I really should double check that. Maybe I’ll go do that now..

Update: Just did. Its $289 vs $299 because of the special.
    Tempting af.

Actuality, I did not see your post.. I’m thinking of upgrading my Live 9 Std. License (working with 11 Lite now)..
I am seeing (vaguely) there was a sale last week or two from Ableton… I think they offer a summer sale… Maybe someone can confirm…
    Thanks..

There was a 25% off sale, but I think it might be finished now.

Nothing too weird, AUv3 is incredibly more powerful to manage MIDI :)

Specially in the case of VST, using plugins dedicated to MIDI requires a hack that is not even supported in Cubase.

This is one of the reasons of why there are so many great MIDI effects and sequencers on iOS, in comparison to desktop. AUv3 is in other league respect to the previous Audio Units or VST, managing this.

At least, until CLAP starts to be widely adopted. It greatly expands the MPE possibilities of AUv3.

@BirbHope now I found the video again. Look how Ritchie Hawtin uses the Bitwig arpeggiator with a custom hardware controller and a custom controller script. Their summer sale is still running, so you can get Bitwig for 299.

Wow, that's a whole lot of hardware, software, programming and money for that little plucky sequence 😉

  • edited June 2022

This AudioThing bundle at ADSR sounds for 25$ is quite good:

    https://adsrsounds.com/product/software/audiothing-summer-essentials-toolbox

I already have AudioThing Texture, and is one of these secret weapon tools, to create instantly good sounds by only tweaking a couple of parameters.

But it also includes Hainbach's Motor.

    EDIT:

It seems that miniBit is an instrument :)

Giving that I have zero interest in miniVerb, I will demo miniBit, to see how it compares with ToneBoosters BitJuggler, the best sounding bit crusher / decimator.

It's ironic to talk of a best sounding bit crusher. But really, it doesn't mind how many of them I try. I still need to find something close to the musicality that you can achieve with BitJuggler.

Thanks for thinking to post that @krassmann. Appreciate it. Sounds promising for me. Pretty sure I will be grabbing it before the sale ends. Although it pretty much depends on whether the Macbook Air comes out before the sale ends too.

  • Seeing the Bitwig adoption in this forum, some day with time I should create a Bitwig official topic, to include tips and useful links, specially for those coming from iOS :)

On a topic related to sales, today I made the decision of unsubscribe from the Plugin Alliance newsletter, informing me of new sales and coupons, tired of receiving a new email, sometimes two, every single day. When the coupons are generic, and I can catch the new sales in the Audio Production Deals Reddit.

I haven't seen a plugin company more invasive, flooding your email with spam.

New granular synth from Dawesome / Tracktion...Intro pricing plus extra 40% if you already own Abyss...

Got the demo and it's very interesting - possibly one of the best implementations of a granular synth available.

    https://www.tracktion.com/products/novum

Very slightly over the top review / demo

Novum can be purchased for $90.22 using the code GROUP in JRRShop.

Seeing the things that people are achieving with this, I'm really impressed.

Look at this post by gondi in the KVR Forum, a sample of a single C key played on a piano with lush reverb, and then imported to Novum. No external processing.

    https://kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=582777&start=135

It's impressive how with single sounds, it's possible to create full orchestral arrangements with this thing.

I will wait until July to see if Audio Modelling does a summer sale, now SWAM Clarinets on desktop is my maximum priority to get.

But if not, I'm seriously tempted by Novum as my big purchase of July.

I don’t think the code works anymore? Showing $102 as the base price and the checkout page has a note saying codes not accepted for this product. Works out to about 150AUD which I think may be above my already exhausted budget. Looks cool though.

I’ve been trying to abstain from buying new plugins but have really been wanting Unfiltered Audio Lofi AF since I saw the Venus Theory walk through video. Even though it’s available for $31 anytime as are all PA plugins now, it’s hard to pass it up for $18… 🥺

LoFi AF is really good though the latency is enough to require freezing the effected audio to realign the timing. I may be missing a setting or something(?) that may solve this.

  • edited July 2022

@Proppa I have Unfiltered Audio Silo, SpecOps and Bassmint. They all have considerable latency for sure. Haven’t checked bassmint in depth because I only got it recently but the first two definitely do. Also demoed Tails and it had a ton too- nothing that made my system choke though. 2017 iMac w 32gb ram

Edit: just re-read your post, I did’t realize the latency was so high it throws off the timing. Will let you know how it goes for me once I try it. I can test it in Ableton and Pro Tools.
