Not specific to BM3, but iOS in general: Not getting regular updates is absolutely not the same thing as abandoned.

Sometimes a product is simply finished and when it runs fine I see no reason as a dev to waste time updating it all the time (with what, exactly?).

Good point. If an app is stable then fine I suppose. On reflection I probably have hundreds of ‘finished’ apps that I use regularly without thinking about when they were last updated.

I think BM3 did address the ongoing bugs eventually, but I remember a long time of folks on here discussing its instabilities. It did feel pretty abandoned with no communication from the devs on their own forum for a very long time.

I wasn’t enough of a frequent user of BM3 to really know about its instabilities. I knew just enough to be able to load my plugins for testing, but I never explored the deep aspects of it. So I can’t speak from personal experience on it.

Here’s the thing with BM3. It has the deepest sampling integration capabilities on iOS and the timestretch algorithms are up there with the best. That’s it. That’s why we keep using it. There’s people who have used MPCs for years who then use BM3 and say, ‘Goddamn! This thing is deeeep’. If you sample/resample and make music on the iPad then it is the best. Not iMPC, not Segments, not Chameleon, not Reslice, not Neon, not Egoist. BM3 just does more with samples. OK, Koala is very close and would be my first pick for an AUv3 sampler workflow, but they are more like father and son…

What about in comparison to Vatanator Pro (if you’ve tried it)? I have both but have never dove deep enough into either of them. It’s something I’ve been meaning to do but I’m trying to figure out if it’s worth keeping both. I guess I’ll have to decide.

@BerlinFx It's fine to get a refund on software that doesn't work for you, but it isn't really a good look to be trying to get said software removed from the appstore simply because you don't like it. I don't care for BM3 either despite having purchased it when it first released (especially since it had a lot of bugs to be ironed out back then), but to be honest I didn't bother asking for a refund either. I simply considered it a write-off on taxes. 🤪

But neither will I say "I will get it removed from the appstore" as there are other users here who love BM3. And one advantage BM3 has over NS2 is the fact BM3 has audio tracks . 😆 And BM3's sampler is still second to none on iOS (sorry Alchemy Sampler in Logic Pro, BM3 still has you whupped).

You are right sometimes because of my medical pill I am strange and over react. Sorry for that and I am sorry for all who use BM3.

It's okay mate, lol. I am on the Autism spectrum, so I'm no stranger to overreacting and sometimes acting a bit of a looney. 🤪 But I've gotten better at reigning it in over the years.

Don’t worry for BM3 , Apple replied to my email telling me that BM3 is compliant and will stay in AppStore, the dev will receive a message to remember him that apps should be updated at least once a year (Apple doesn’t enforce that rule ) . I got a gift card. So everybody happy.

HA! As @gusgranite mentioned, you might've just given Intua the jolt they need to update BM3 with at least some manner of maintenance. If such be the case, BM3 will no longer be a "soon-to-be dead" app. And there's nothing quite like getting a gift card from Apple.

This reminds me of the time when Premier Vintage Organ was still available for Module Pro. Korg and Premier then had a licensing dispute (since Korg were licensing the Premier Vintage Organ sounds to be available for purchase in Module Pro) and Korg discontinued the pack and removed it from Module.

I was furious , because Korg removed the pack entirely back in late 2017/early 2018, taking the money I spent on it with them while ruining the Gadget projects I had made with said pack. I wrote Apple and Korg, telling them if they want to take away IAP sounds I purchased and ruin the projects I used it in, to either give me a refund or to put the sounds back. I told them I didn't care about their "stupid back office politics" and demanded they give me one or the other. And I'm not the only one who complained about this either thankfully.

So Apple gave me 10 iTunes credits, and Korg and Premier worked out their differences and put the Vintage Organ pack back into Module Pro (albeit no longer for sale, but those of us who purchased it can still redownload it under "Manage Packs" for project compatibility).

The point of this rambling is - sometimes the best way to bring about change is to involve Apple somehow, at least to get you some appstore credits for the trouble or a month of Apple Music for free. 😆

I think it can be off-putting for some potential purchasers if they see an app hasn’t been updated for a few years, even if there are no reported issues, hence this thread. It’s something I usually check before getting my wallet out, and I think it’s particularly relevant with an app as complex as this one.

They may not enforce annual updates but they do give devs deadlines for updating their apps eventually. I hope when the time comes they are able to at least recompile what is there.

This^ . What update does it need when it is stable and one of the most ambitious iOS apps and DAWs? Looks like some strange animosity is harbored at Intua but it’s not clear what’s wrong with BM3?

  • BM3, best “glass” finger drum out there, hands down. The velocity slider on the left is genius. I still pull this app out when I just have my iPad and practice drumming.

You’re right Brad, I did search and I watched a few, but it wasn’t really what i was looking for. They were all about 20-30 minutes, and they focused more on hip hop basic beats, general overviews of features, and a lot of them were rather old. I was looking for a newer/updated video with a more developed track, that maybe shows the audio features. (One reason I went with beatmaker 3 over nanostudio 2 was because it has audio input as well.) If anyone uses BeatMaker 3 and has anything newer than this or recommends a more advanced track, please link me. This is the video that was closest to what I was looking for

This video was from when I first started on the iOS platform.
The music was done entirely using BM3 which was the reason
why I found the Audiobus Forum in the first place.
I also did a remix using BM3 to test its capabilities
on an old Air 2, it could rock 24 channels of audio,
a mixture of auv3's, recorded audio and softsynths.
I still use BM3 on occasion especially if I need to do a remix sharpish.

and the remix myself and other BM3 users did for a BM3 forum challenge.
    Here was my offering.

    That’s good to hear.

I have been revisiting BM3 lately. It’s still the best app for what I do and most of what used to irritate me about it is now a thing of the past.

If anything it was too far ahead of the state iOS was in at the time of its release.

tru, a ton of my stability problems went away simply by going from a 2019 base model to a 2019 pro.

Also, I think it is one of those apps that has a ton of respect from people who do not see themselves as 'iOS producers' and may have come to it later; with it really being pretty much the only iOS app they use because it fits their world so well. The ratings on the Canadian store are super high and there are a lot of them. It really is anomalous that way. I can imagine it is largely beatmakers/maschine/mpc users etc who see it is a sweet addition to their existing workflow and are not simply trying to put all their middle aged last ditch dreams of affordable stardom on what they hope is a 'complete daw'.
